  • The necessity of shipping market information services has been on the rise which emphasizes the relevance of transaction information and market information to parties both in and outside the shipping industry. However, previous related researches have been restricted to explorations limited by the offerings of existing shipping market information providers. Users today require effective information, an efficient contents management system, interfacing to help the information provider, graphing and spread sheets to facilitate and present the analyzed information through diverse formats, and reliable web and mobile services to provide information effectively with limited human resources. As a first step, service information has to be defined, so that it takes into account user utility, information retrieval and data development. Second, benchmark information and services must be provided from leading shipbrokers and research institutes. Third, a review of the latest technical trends is required to identify the most suitable technologies for servicing shipping market information. Finally, analysis is required on the implementation of a system with selected technologies, as well as the development of channels to post information which have been analyzed by users. Such a process would enable the continual redefinition of the shipping market information users actively need. The application of an X-Internet based WCMS, with a single-window dashboard providing user-customized information, and used to obtain and manage processes, add spread sheets to sustain calculations using the latest information, graph results, and to input additional information following predefined rules. Access to data and use of the system would require agreement that the system will incorporate user data and user-analyzed information into the market report, web portal, and hybrid app to provide current shipping market information appropriately and accurately to service users.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends that the Fishery and Shipping Department teachers at specialized vocational high schools have noticed about the characteristics of the applicant pool taking the College Scholastic Achievement Test(CSAT) since the vocational education division was first introduced in the CSAT in 2005. In addition, surveyed data from the study is highly desirable for researchers to understand the changes in the characteristics of the applicants for the fishery and maritime department in the CSAT. This study not only provides solid improvement on the selection of questions for the CSAT but also facilitates in the process of writing contemporary and relevant exam questions. The survey included 76 Teachers from 12 High School of Fisheries and Shipping Industry. The results were as follows. First, the reduction in the number of applicants for Fishery and Maritime department in the CSAT after 2010 is due to the new governmental policy that encourages students in vocational schools to find employment rather than pursuing further education. Second, the biggest group of students who forgo taking the CSAT after 2010 is those with high marks at school. • Earnings management is defined as an intentional act during the financial reporting process or a manager's choice of accounting policies to avoid earnings decreases or obtain some private gains. Shipping firms have a highly debt-intensive capital structure and a significant motivation in earnings management to avoid failure of a Debt Covenant. From this point of views, this paper tries to determine the relationship between the capital structure and discretionary accruals estimated using the re-modified Jones model (1995). The sample used to test the research models is made up of 87 Korean shipping firms during the period from 2007 to 2015. A histogram analysis, t-test and FGLS confirm the possibility of using earnings management, and it proved that Korean shipping firms manage their earnings to avoid financial loss. An analysis of the relationship between the capital structure and earning managements, shows it is difficult to support the Debt Covenant, shown as a negative relationship between the debt ratio and debt maturity as shipping firms' capital structure and discretionary accruals as earning management variable. An additional analysis presents a negative relationship between previous debt maturity and discretionary accruals, and the possibility of earning management in a highly increased debt ration group.

  • This study analyzed the fishery and maritime vocational high school teachers' recognition on the outcomes and future agenda. In addition, it delineates the importance of the vocational education division being carried out for 10 years in the College Scholastic Achievement Test (CSAT). In order to gather relevant information, 76 teachers who work in 12 different fishery and shipping vocational high schools around the country were surveyed. The findings of the fishery and maritime department teachers' recognition on the matter are as follows: First, the biggest impact the vocational education division in the CSAT had was on the promotion of continuing education and on the fulfillment on the vocational high school students' desire to compete and enter universities. Second, the CSAT with the vocational education division allowed students to choose a variety of paths after high school whether they be full-time employments or pursuing a degree in universities. Third, the biggest obstacle for the vocational education division in the CSAT is in the most metropolitan universities not honoring the CSAT scores as a criterion in the admission process.

The losses observed through the materials used were $18.3\%$ which consists of $8.1\%$ by diseases and $10.2\%$ by water rot as the result of cold and snow damages at harvest stage in Jeju. The total amount of damages estimated at shipping stage were 915M/T in value of 135 million Won from the rot waste of 675M/T by the end of 1975. Since cold injury is known as the main factor of the fruit rot, shipping and storage process as well as disease control measures are discussed.

  • In recent years, shipping and ports industries are faced with enormous changes like globalization, market liberalization and borderless businesses. To cope with this competitive environment, a certain form of cooperation among ports is necessary to provide high quality of services and lower costs to establish their market power against shipping companies. The purpose of this study is to identify the motivation of the strategic alliances between ports and demonstrate the level of importance using Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP). Among four motivations of the strategic alliances which are strategic motivation, economic motivation, operational motivation and marketing motivation, economic motivation is the most important factor for ports alliances than other factors. This is because economic motivation among strategic alliances allow ports in the same market to rationalize supply and demand, thus avoiding unnecessary over-supply and over-competition and also can reduce service costs by using comparative advantages of each partner which make costs cheaper.

  • This study aims to, looking from a standpoint of network, has investigated the shipping industry's B2B e-marketplace, the characteristics that can earn electronic trust from the users, and characteristics of the web-site. It has examined the mechanism whereby electronic trust be earned and how it affects web-site involvement and service transaction intention. Ultimately, The study attempts to make proposals whereby such trust can lead for a cooperative trading community in the shipping industry's B2B e-marketplace The Covalence structural equation modeling was designed and empirically tested for the shipping industry's B2B e-marketplace. The shipping industry employees were given questionnaires and data were analyzed. Except for perceived security of the three characteristic factors on the web-site, the perceived site quality and characteristics factors in operation only affected co-variables. Transaction Fairness was determined to be the most important factor among exogenous factors increasing electronic trust. With regards to transaction rules, if a transaction is beneficial only to one side, then no long term transaction will not take place. If the concerned parties properly recognize that transaction fairness is crucial to electronic transaction, then it will enormously contribute to successful operations of shipping e-marketplace. Also, Perceived efficiency in transaction also affects electronic trust. This reduces transaction costs and speeds up and simplifies the transaction process. It has reduced greater time and costs than existing off-line transaction, and would positively affect electronic trust. By making an open forum for participants to obtain information for transaction, they can gather useful information, and at the same time, the web-site operator can provide information, which, in turn, will increase electronic trust in electronic transaction. Furthermore, such formation of trust in electronic transaction influences shipping companies in such a way that they will want to continuously participate in the transaction, raising web-site involvement. The result of increased trust is that shipping companies in the future will do business with each other and form a foundation for continuous transactions amongst themselves. Consequently, the formation of trust in electronic transaction greatly influences web-site involvement and service transaction intention. The results of the study have again proved that in order to maintain continuous business relationship with the current clients, electronic trust in virtual space, which operates the shipping industry's B2B e-marketplace, is important for the interested parties.
