해운산업의 서비스품질에 관한 고찰 (A Study on the Service Quality for Shipping Industry)

  • Under the competitive environment of shipping industry, the improvement of the quality of shipping service could be one of the most important factors to be considered in the recent shipping industry. However, there has been little study on the clear concept of the service quality in the shipping so far. The subject of this study is to define the concept of the service quality in the shipping by way of making investigation into the related precedent literatures studied. The quality of service is recognized in general as a degree of gap between the customer's expectation and the perception. Therefore the service quality of shipping could be measured by evaluating the gaps between shipper's expectation and performance of shipping service. If the determinants of the service quality in the shipping are proved, and the discrepancies of expectations and perception between the shipping company and the shipper could be clarified, such a result would be an useful help to establish marketing strategy.

A Study on the Countermeasures of Shipping and Port Logistics Industry in Responding to the Progression of Fourth Industrial Revolution

  • The presence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is omniscient, led by full force emergence of technologies that make biological, physical, and digital worlds borderless. All industries which jump on the bandwagon, can observe convergence and merging of bushiness happening within, between and across industries. As the shipping and port logistics industry is said to be in eye of this storm, the purpose of this study is to investigate the shipping and port logistics industry's awareness regarding 4th IR, as well to identify necessary countermeasures in responding to progression of this trend. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methodology was then used to compare the importance of four phases of countermeasures, reviewed by experts in the field. Results showed that countermeasures should be first orchestrated to the 'Merging and Integration of Inter-industry', then followed by 'P reemptive Introduction of Advanced Technology', 'Expansion of Intra-industry Businesses', and eventually 'Automation, Unmanned Technology'. Last but not least, four phases of countermeasures which should be introduced and executed one phase after another, are outlined for the shipping and port logistics industry to boost its competitiveness in addressing this progressive trend.

COVID-19 판데믹 전후의 컨테이너해운업 동향분석과 해운재건을 위한 정책 방향 제언 (Trend and Political Implications of Container Shipping Industry Before and After COVID-19 Pandemic)

  • 이 연구는 COVID-19 판데믹 전후 즉, 2019년부터 2021년 현재까지의 해운경기와 동향분석을 통해 이번 컨테이너 해운호황을 면밀히 분석하고 그 원인을 알아보았다. 또한 이 연구는 우리 해운기업이 포스트 코로나 시대에 지속가능한 성장을 위해 정책방향을 제언하였다. 연구 결과, COVID-19 확산이 유발한 수요감소에 대한 대응으로 선사들이 선박가동중단(idle)을 늘렸다는 언론 보도와는 다르게 스크러버 설치를 위해 가동중단선박이 급속히 늘어난 것을 확인하였다. 이 연구에서 제언한 정책방향으로는 선박공급과잉의 원인 분석과 해운산업 증요성에 대한 전국민적 공감대 확보가 필요하다는 것이었다. 구체적으로 첫 번째, 해운정책으로 인해 오히려 선박공급과잉이 심화되었는지 알아볼 필요가 있다는 것, 두 번째, 해운정책의 기조 특히, 호황기 정책 기조를 재검토할 필요가 있다는 것, 세 번째, 불황기 공급확장 정책 이외에 호황기 공급조절 정책과 같은 해운정책의 포트폴리오를 구성해야 한다는 것 등이다. 마지막으로, 정책 당국과 해운 관련 국책연구기관의 해운경기 예측력을 제고시켜야 하며, 지속적으로 선사CEO 대상 선박투자 세미나를 개최하고, S&P 전문가 및 해운시장 분석가를 양성해야 할 것을 주장하였다.

  • Government tries to revise the article 25 in Korea Maritime Transport Act which describes subject of coastal carriage for exported-imported container cargoes. The subject of coastal carriage will be replaced coastal carrier by ocean liner carrier according to the revised article 25. By adopting the revised article, coastal shipping industry will be deteriorated in terms of returns on investment, sales and etc. Even though the revision is inevitable to harmonize the flow of exported-imported container cargo movement, coastal shipping industry should be developed and restructured to get competitive power and to set up an efficient international logistics system. To enhance competitive power of coastal shipping companies successfully, government must realize the importance of coastal shipping, and aid the industry through various methods such as arrangement of law and regulation, indirected financial assistance, decrease of tax rate, etc.

부산지역 해운.항만업체 총조사와 e-Logistics 인프라 구축에 관한 연구 (A Survey on the Shipping and Port Logistics Industry in Busan, and Establishment of Its e-Logistics Infrastructure)

  • The government of Busan Metropolitan City conducted the "Survey on Shipping and Port Logistics Companies in Busan" between May and December, 2000. This was the first comprehensive survey of Busan Port conducted from the perspective of regional & industrial economics. The objective of the survey was to find out the level of influence of the shipping and port logistics industry on the regional economy of Busan, and to obtain base data for use in establishing an actual promotion program. The survey acquired information about human and physical resources, management conditions and consciousness of the industry, In addition, the study analyzed the survey data. The results of the analysis showed a method of creating added value in support of the marketing activities of the companies, and indicated methods of achieving systematic and sustainable promotion. The government of Busan City shall develop an e-Logistics infrastructure which can deliver a synopsis and intelligent information to people and companies in the industry by the end of this year. The information system would be of great help for people who may not be familiar with Busan's port and shipping industry, particularly international shipping companies. This will result in an Increase of trade and exchange in the shipping and port logistics industry, resulting in the generation of increased added value within the near future.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the growth status and future prospects of the shipping industry over the past decade through a review of the statistical database and related literature. We classify the shipping industry and survey a number of companies, number of employees, sales trends and shipping logistics market outlook, port cargo volume, and container throughput trends with regard to the sea cargo shipping business, freezing cold warehousing business, harbor cargo unloading business, and international freight forwarding business. We will also look at the overall trends, scale, cargo volume, and harbor automation status of the global shipping market.

  • Amid the growing importance and urgency of smartening in the Korean maritime logistics industry, this study conducted a survey on the status of Korea's maritime trade technology. Korea is on par with developed countries internationally, but in order to lead the digitalization of the future era, additional developments should be explored by reviewing current conditions. In particular, it is necessary to draw policy implications for smart shipping in Korea, which is a three-sided sea. This study derived technical implications by comparing the number of patent applications and the applicant for domestic and foreign patents related to the major technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In addition, it was intended to investigate and present the status of Korea's maritime trade technology through the analysis of smart shipping-related emotions and the analysis of positive and negative scores of companies related to sentiment analysis.

  • Online exchange is a cost-effective approach to trade goods and information among multiple sellers and buyers. Shipping industry includes lots of global entities such as shippers, liners, ship owners and shipping agents. Marine insurance companies and ship repairers and many other groups are also supporting the industry. However, international shipping exchanges are located on few cities in the world. Its our motivation that a shipping market can be online so that market participants do the dealing while sitting where they are with more efficient manner, preferable price and larger pool of candidates of trading partners. This paper presents Korean governmental project of building a cyber shipping exchange. The exchange covers ship sale and purchase, charter, insurance, freight futures, repairs, supplying of ships oil and database service. The workflows of each business were analyzed and designed to fit for online environment. The project includes design of trading mechanism, online documents, data flow, data storage and security. Online match making and trading mechanisms such as auction, reverse auction, bid are used. The whole trading process involves multiple organizations and business processes. So, this Paper focuses on how each organization would play their roles so that users can complete transactions with integrated and transparent view. The online exchange selves also as maritime portal site that links to other sites for cooperation vertically or horizontally, and serves database and information in global perspective. 해운산업의 인지도 분석과 인식 제고 방안 (An Analysis of Shipping Industry Awareness and Its Implications)

  • 이 연구는 일반인들이 해운업에 대해 어떻게 생각하고 얼마나 중요하게 생각하는지 알아보았다. 연구 결과, 해운산업에 대해 조금 알고 있다거나, 보통이다라는 대답이 과반 수 이상을 차지하는 것으로 나타났다. 국적선사 파산 방지를 위한 예산투입 필요성에 대해서는 대체로 필요하다거나 보통이다라는 대답이 50% 이상을 차지하는 것으로 나타났다. 국적선사 유지 필요성에 대해서 대체로 필요하다가 53%, 보통이다가 23%로 나타났다. 그러나, 국적선사 유지가 나와 나의 가정에 혜택을 준다고 생각하는가에 대한 질문에는 보통이다가 39%, 대체로 그렇다가 28%로 나타났다. 한진해운 파산 원인에 대해서는 오너일가의 부도덕 및 무능이 49%, 해운시황 악화가 17.4%로 나타났다. 해운업 육성 필요성에 대해서는 해상운송 서비스 수출을 통해 외화획득 및 서비스수지 개선이 43.5%, 수출입 화물의 원활한 운송이 36.5%를 차지했다. 한진해운 파산으로 나는 어떤 피해를 입었는가에 대한 질문에는 기타(별로 없음)이 54.6%, 물가 상승이 14.5%로 나타났다. 해운산업 인식제고방안에 대한 개방형 질문에 홍보, 투명의 빈도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 연구 결과를 통해 일반인들이 해운업에 대해 생각하는 중요도는 대체로 높지 않은 것으로 보인다. 또한, 한진해운 파산의 원인이 오너일가의 무능 및 부도덕을 제1 원인으로 꼽고, 해운업 인식제고 방안으로 투명을 꼽는 것으로 볼 때 한진그룹 일가의 부도덕이 국민적 공분을 산 것으로 볼 수 있고, 이것이 해운업의 이미지 악화에 영향을 준 것으로 보여진다. 따라서 우리 해운업계는 최근 각광 받고 있는 ESG 경영을 강화해야 하겠다. 홍보와 관련해서 학회 차원에서는 유튜브 채널을 운영해 대중의 눈높이에 맞는 해운과 항만지식 정보 제공이 필요하다고 할 수 있겠다.
