Today, many middle-sized shipbuilding companies in Korea are experiencing strong competition from shipbuilding companies in other nations. This competition is particularly affecting small- and middle-sized shipyards, rather than the major shipyards that have their own support systems and development capabilities. The acquisition of techniques that would enable maximization of production efficiency and minimization of the gap between planning and execution would increase the competitiveness of small- and middle-sized Korean shipyards. In this paper, research on a simulation-based support system for ship production management, which can be applied to the shipbuilding processes of middle-sized shipbuilding companies, is presented. The simulation research includes layout optimization, load balancing, work stage operation planning, block logistics, and integrated material management. Each item is integrated into a network system with a value chain that includes all shipbuilding processes.

This paper has focused on the middle term process planning around quays based on the prefixed long-term plan of the product mixed ships. Recently, the order rate of high add-value ships in domestic shipyards has been sharply increased and the spending time at quays is accordingly on an increasing trend. For proper and practical process planning related to quays, it has to be closely connected with a long-term plan and product calendar, erection network and result of ship allocation around quays. Moreover, it is also required to include the integrated consideration of the whole process of a yard, each ship, and each team respectively. The most distinguishing feature of this study is that it would run on the ship allocation simulator and GIS framework in order not to be limited to the specific one yard and the readers can figure out the optimization formulation containing the work load leveling and a different approach from PERT/CPM. The proposed approach reflected all requirements from the department of process planning and management in a shipyard, and the analysis of the results has explained its performance of the optimization result with the examples of total 43 ships under construction from 2008 to 2013.
In this paper, we develope a genetic algorithm for the erection scheduling in shipbuilding. Erection, the final manufacturing stage of shipbuilding, involves the landing and joining of blocks at drydock. Since several ships are built simultaneously at the same drydock and they compete with the common constrained production resource such as labor, space, and crane, we should consider both ship-specifics and common resource constraints for the desirable erection scheduling. Ship erection should also satisfy the predetermined dock cycle given from higher level production planning. Thus, erection schedule of a ship can be represented as a PERT/CPM project network with its own deadline. Since production resources are shared, the erection scheduling become the so-called multi-project scheduling problem with limited resources, which can not be solved easily due to the large size of project network. We propose a function as a minimization of load index which represented the load deviation over time horizon considering the yard production strategy. For the optical parameter setting, we tried various experiments. We verified that the proposed approach was effective to deal with the erection scheduling problem in shipbuilding.

Most shipbuilding scheduling research so far has focused on the load level on the dock plan. This is because the dock is the least extendable resource in shipyards, and its overloading is difficult to resolve. However, once dock scheduling is completed, making a plan that makes the best use of the rest of the resources in the shipyard to minimize any additional cost is also important. Block assignment planning is one of the midterm planning tasks; it assigns a block to the facility (factory/shop or surface plate) that will actually manufacture the block according to the block characteristics and current situation of the facility. It is one of the most heavily loaded midterm planning tasks and is carried out manually by experienced workers. In this study, a method of representing the block assignment rules using a diagram was suggested through analysis of the existing manual process. A block allocation program was developed which automated the block assignment process according to the rules represented by the diagram. The planning scenario was validated through a case study that compared the manual assignment and two automated block assignment results.

Hence ship loading plan must be adjusted immediately and that algorithm must be studied. In this study we organize the situations said before. And we present realtime ship loading plan method. High speed planning boats also have been required more and more the rational strength analysis and evaluation for the optimal structural design in respect of the structural lightness according to the high speed trend. Even though the suggestion of the simple type equation for the equivalent dynamic pressure is reasonable to design the scantling of ship structure conveniently, many research activities for more reasonable improvement of the simple design pressure, have been continued to suggest the more accurate equivalent static description of tire structural response such as the deflection and stress of hull structure. In this research, we focus on the aluminum bottom stiffened plate structure in which structural scantling is mainly depend on the local loads such as dynamic or impact pressure without other load effects and structural response for the simple dynamic equivalent pressure was investigated through the structural analysis. In order to investigate the structural response of the bottom stiffened plate structure subjected to the dynamic equivalent design pressure, linear and nonlinear structural analysis of the bottom stiffened plate structure of 4.3 ton aluminum planning boat was performed based on the equivalent static applied loads which were derived from the KR regulation and representative one among various dynamic equivalent pressure equations. From above analysis results, we found that the response such as deflection and stress of plate member was similar with the response results of one plate member model with fixed boundary, which was published previous paper and in case of KR design loading, all response of stiffened plate structure were within elastic limit. Through the nonlinear analysis, nearly elastic behavior including the slight geometrical nonlinear response was dominant but plastic local zone was appeared at $85\%$ limit load. Therefore, we can say that through tire linear and nonlinear analysis, this stiffened plate member has no structural strength problem based on the yield criteria in case within $60\%$ limit load except the other strength point of view such as the fatigue and buckling problem.
Long span bridges such as steel cable stayed and suspension bridges are usually more flexible than short to medium span bridges and expected to have large deformations. Deflections due to live load for long span bridges are important since it controls the overall heights of the bridge for securing the clearance under the bridge and serviceability for securing the comfort of passengers or pedestrians. In case of sea-crossing bridges, the clearance of bridges is determined considering the height of the ship master from the surface of the water, the trim of the ship, the psychological free space, the tide height, and live load deflection. In the design of bridges, live load deflection is limited to a certain value to minimize the vibrations. However, there are not much studies that consider the live load deflection and its effects for long span bridges. The purpose of this study is to investigate the suitability of live load deflection limit and its actual effects on serviceability of bridges for steel cable-stayed and suspension bridges. Analytical study is performed to calculate the natural frequencies and deflections by design live load. Results are compared with various design limits and related studies by Barker et al. (2011) and Saadeghvaziri et al. (2012). Two long span bridges are selected for the case study, Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge (suspension bridge, main span length = 1545 m) and Young-Hung grand bridge (cable stayed bridge, main span length = 240 m). Long-term measured deflection data by GNSS system are collected from Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge and compared with the theoretical values. Probability of exceedance against various deflection limits are calculated from probability distribution of 10-min maximum deflection. The results of the study on the limitation of live load deflection are expected to be useful reference for the design, the proper planning and deflection review of the long span bridges around the world.
In the near future, the marine resort development will increase because people's requirements of marine leisure are raising. Instead of marine resort development by reclamation which causes environmental disruption, it is expected that marine resort development using floating structures increases. And the requirement of floating hotel that is main facilities of marine resort grows too. It is necessary to investigate the load estimation of floating hotel. The floating hotel has two characteristics, both hotel and ship. Accordingly, this study examines the consideration points for planning the load estimation of floating hotel, and the results of load estimation of ship and hote are investigated.

Higher productivity and less cost during the manufacturing process of ships are required to maintain international competitiveness of modern shipbuilding industries. The integrated hull/ outfitting/ painting scheduling(IHOP) process is a final point, where logistics are finally being integrated and upcoming schedules are made. Therefore, more profits are expected from IHOP by effective management. In this thesis, IHOP is proposed in order to solve how to choose block erection date with IHOP scheduling logic. The result of IHOP scheduling is highly advised to utilize fabrication, outfitting shops. A standardized operation and load of resource will eventually be applied in long-term time span point of view for this will make it easy to enable capacity planning and workforce planning. It is also expected to eliminate inefficiency in overtime work and efficiently utilize manpower in short-term.
