The purpose of this study is to develop a diagnostic screening tool for the early detection of osteoporosis in persons with a predisposition for this condition and to facilitate effective management of the disease. Data are collected using questionnaires. The subjects are 120 women in a small city OB-GY clinic in South Korea, who are 6 months or more post menopausal and who have been examined for BMD. Two items in general syndrome of kidney vacuity(Shin Hur) : hears noises like streaming water or the sound of shrill chirrups of a cicada (OR=3.34, p<0.1), feels twinges in the back and knee(OR=4.10, p<0.05), one item in kidney yin vacuity: feels thirst and gets sore throat(OR=8.5, p<0.01) were proven as statistically significant risk factors in the identification of osteoporosis (Odds Ratio). The predictability score was 86.36%, and ROC curve was 0.84. This study attempted to identify risk factors in female osteoporosis so as to develop a screening tool for the purposes of early diagnosis, the effective management of osteoporosis patients and to modify the progress of their disease. Further studies are needed to elaborate this tool's ability to identify contributing factors in osteoporosis as defined by diagnostic evidence predicted by Oriental Medicine Theory.

본 논문에서는 한국형 에너지관리 시스템(energy management system, EMS)의 프로토타입(prototype) 네트웍 해석 프로그램의 개발에 대해 요약하였다. 2005년부터 수행되어온 한국형 EMS 개발은 2008년 베이스라인(baseline) 개발을 완료한 상태이며 올해부터 프로토타입 개발 및 실증시험을 수행중에 있다. 한국형 EMS 프로토타입 네트웍 해석 소프트웨어는 베이스라인 개발 프로그램의 기능 보강과 더불어 상정사고 해석(contingency analysis), 전압 계획(voltage scheduler) 및 송전가능용량계산(transmission transfer capability)등으로 구성되어 있다. 본 논문에서는 각 개발 프로그램의 개략적 기능을 소개하고 전체적인 프로토타입 시스템의 구성에 대해 요약하였다.

This study was conducted to obtain the information of distribution, protection and management for mammal species in fragmented forest areas around the road from June 2002 to May 2003 in 9 study sites of Baekdugdaegan mountains, Korea. Field signs of twelve mammals, moles Molera robusta, Korean hares Lepus coreanus, Manchurian chipmunk Tamias sibiricus, red squirrels Sciurus vulgaris, Korean racoon dogs Nyctereutes procyonoides, Siberian weasels Mustela sibirica, badgers Meles meles, otters Lutra lutra, Bengal cats Felis bengalensis, wild boars Sus scrofa, water deer Hydropotes inermis and roe deer Capreolus pygargus were recorded in this study. There were no differences in total number of species between 50 m areas and 50-100 m areas from road in snow and non-snow season. Number of mammals' field signs were different in non-snow season between both areas. Red squirrels and Siberian weasels were more abundant in 50 m areas, and Korean hares and Manchurian chipmunks were in 50-100 m areas. Habitat using pattern of mammal species may be affected by the road. Reasonable road construction and maintenance would be needed for protection and management of wildlife and their habitats.

This study was conducted to estimate population size and investigate habitat characteristics for the conservation and management of Amur goral Nemorhaedus caudatus raddeanus in DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) of Gangwon Province in South Korea from November 2003 to May 2004. The Amur gorals counting were carried out by assistance of military soldiers who guards the southern boundary of DMZ. Four hundred sixty individuals were estimated as total population size in DMZ of Gangwon Province. Deciduous forest, rocky area and coniferous forest were dominant land cover types in habitat of Amur goral. DMZ and its vicinity of Gangwon Province are very important areas for the conservation of this species. It is needed to establish management plan for the conservation of Amur goral and their habitats in DMZ.

This study was conducted to identify the road effect on small rodent populations within fragmented forest areas around the road from June to September 2002, in 9 study sites of Baekdugdaegan mountains, Korea. Two species of small rodents, Korean field mouse Apodemus peninsulae and striped field mouse Apodemus agrarius, were captured in this study. Korean field mouse preferred forest area, and striped field mouse generally has been found edge area around road. Mean body weight of Korean field mouse was significantly different, but that of striped field mouse was not between both distance from road. Korean field mouse is forest-dwelling species and their distribution is limited in forest area. In contrast, striped field mouse has wide distributional range around road. The effects of road is different in each small rodent species and their habitat preferences.

Eel Anguilla japonica is an economically important inland culture fish species in East Asian countries, particularly in Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan. In this study, the effects of feeding frequency on larval growth and survival rate were investigated. Eel larvae (average length, 6 mm) were fed a slurry-type diet containing shark eggs three, five, seven, or nine times per day. Survival rates differed significantly among the four experimental groups. Feeding frequencies of at least five and seven times a day were required until 15 and 30 days after hatching, respectively, to maintain an acceptable survival rate. Leptocephalus growth improved with increased feeding frequency until 15 days after hatching. The results suggest that providing an opportunity for early food intake enhances eel survival and growth in the early leptocephalus stage.

The study was conducted to get the basic information for proper protection and management of black-faced spoonbill and their habitats in western coast of South Korea. The species was observed in 8 sites of western coast of South Korea in spring 2000. We confirmed breeding of this species at least 4 pairs in Seokdo island. This island is considered likely to be an imortant breeding site together with Yodo island, Hambakdo island and Yokdo island. Also, we observed breeding of herring gull in Seokdo island and small island nearby Boleumdo island for the first time in South Korea. Chilsando island, Cheonsuman bay and Gyeokyeolbiyeoldo island were considered as stopovers located on the Korean Peninsula route. The other sites were considered as summering sites of the black-faced spoonbill. Especially the birds were constantly observed from breeding season to postbreeding season in Seonduri and Yeochari of Ganghwado island. We have counted maximum 88 individuals gathered at Gaksiyeo in Seonduri and Yeochari on September 3, 2000. The species seemed to gather at these sites after breeding for migration to wintering ground in September. We also surveyed changes of the number of individuals as time of the ebb and flow on September 3 and 6, 2000, their time budgets were affected by the ebb and flow in these sites.

모바일 3D 엔진을 탑재한 단말기의 등장과 모바일 콘텐츠 시장의 성장에 따라 3D 모바일 콘텐츠 서비스에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 모바일 3D 아바타는 개인화된 모바일 기기 사용자의 개성을 표출할 수 있는 가장 효과적인 상품이다. 그러나 3D 아바타 표현 방법은 PC기반의 가상환경에서 캐릭터의 얼굴 표정 및 입술 모양 변화에 따른 자연스럽고 사실적인 표현에 대한 연구들이 주로 이루어 졌다. 본 논문에서는 모바일 환경에서 수신된 SMS 메시지를 3D 모바일 아바타에 적용하여 입술 모양 및 음성과 동기화 시키는 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 수신된 메시지 문장을 음절단위로 분해하여 모바일 3D 아바타의 입술 모양과 해당 음성을 동기화 시킴으로써, 모바일 아바타의 자연스럽고 효과적인 SMS 메시지 읽기 서비스를 구현할 수 있도록 해준다.
