Image Processing LSI Design by C Base Language

  • In late years, the tendency to shift the design language of electronic circuits from HDL to C-based languages of C/C)1 and so on is strengthened. The current of adopting these software languages thrives by necessity to solve the problem peculiar to HDL that verification of design is difficult. When we use C-based languages, we can describe the design by higher abstraction degree, mount the design as both hardware and software finally and so that express the design part which is not made clear at early stage the same one language. Therefore, the flexibility of design very improves, the design work in environment the range of applying the whole systems become possible. This paper introduces example at having applied C-based languages in image processing LSI design and describes that the design technique of C-based languages is effective for the system design.

  • The capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics of poly-Si gate MOS devices fabricated by Low-Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition (LPCVD) system have been studied. In the case poly-Si gate, work function difference and surface state charge density was found lower than that of Al gate. This fact was identified from the C-V curves that flatband shift was shown small due to the hydrogen gas diffused into oxide in processing of alloy and the annealing effect in processing of poly-Si deposition.

  • The challenge to be faced in public transportation today is to satisfy human needs with the least delay, with the smallest number of accidents, and with the most economic use of energy, space, materials, man-power and money. One possible solution may lie in city train system, including AGT system. Specially, Passenger space in AGT is important to balance the budget of layout with passenger's satisfaction. This study focuses on lay-out and space, comfort which should be considered from the conceptual design stage of the interior layout work. Traditionally, the interior layout of the passenger room has emphasized ridequality and style. However, as the train becomes more prevalent and versatile, the focus also tends to shift toward layout and space to have comfortable circumstances. After all, the purpose of this research focused on arrangement a rational interior layout of the train through ergonomics research. Finally, the key was ensuring the comfortable environment based on cultural background of the passenger.

Design and Fabrication of a Vacuum Chamber for a Commercial Atomic Force Microscope

  • A vacuum chamber for a commercial atomic force microscope (AFM) is designed and fabricated. Only minimal modifications were made to an existing microscope in an effort to work in a vacuum environment, while most of the available AFM functionalities were kept intact. The optical alignment needed for proper AFM operations including a SLD (superluminescent diode) and a photodiode can be made externally without breaking the vacuum. A vacuum level of $5{\times}10^{-3}$ torr was achieved with a mechanical pump. An enhancement of the quality factor was observed along with a shift in the resonance frequency of a non-contact-mode cantilever in a vacuum. Topographical data of a calibration sample were also obtained in air and in a low vacuum using the non-contact mode and the results were compared.

  • A touchless user interface system is proposed for real-time mobile devices in this work. The proposed system first recognizes the position of pattern to interact various applications based on the scene taken from mobile camera. Then, the proposed system traces the route of the pattern, which estimates the motion of pattern based on the mean-shift method. Based on this information, we control menu and keypad for the various applications. Differ from other user interface systems, the proposed system provides the new experience to even for the user of low-end mobile without additional hardware. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides better interaction performances than the conventional method, while achieving real-time user interacting for mobile devices.

  • Numerous studies have been studied to provide an efficient solution for the Nurse Rostering Problem (NRP), most of which have suffered from its complexity arising from incorporating nurse's work shift and ability. The test-bed data for the NRP is released for the public Competition in 2010. This study suggests a new mixed integer programming for Nurse Rostering Problem and develops a hybrid approach, where a hierarchical decomposition and the corresponding optimization are combined. The computation experiment is performed to show that the suggested algorithms may give a better solution in various instances, compared to the one appeared in the literature.

Characteristics of SAW humidity sensor using nanocrystalline ZnO films

  • In this work, the nanocrystalline ZnO/polycrystalline(poly) aluminum nitride(AlN)/ Si-layered structure was fabricated for humidity sensor applications based on surface acoustic wave(SAW). The ZnO film was used as a sensitive material layer. The ZnO and AlN(0002) were deposited by a sol-gel process and a pulse reactive magnetron sputtering, respectively. The ZnO sensitive films coated on AlN have a hexagonal wurtzite structure after the thin films annealed at $400^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$. The surface of the film exhibits sponginess and a nanometer particle size(below 50 nm). The largest shift in the frequency response was at approximately 200 kHz(the relative humidity: 10 %~90 %) for the structure annealed at $400^{\circ}C$. The effect of the change in the environmental temperature on the frequency response of the SAW humidity sensor was also investigated.

  • This work presents a study on development of a practical and quantitative technique for assessment of the structural health condition by PZT impedance-based technique associated with longitudinal wave propagation. The bolt fastening condition is adjusted by torque wrench In order to estimate the damage condition numerically, we suggest the evaluation method of impedance peak frequency shift $\Delta$F in this paper.

The bolt fastening condition is adjusted by torque wrench. Furthermore, an assessment method is described for estimation of the damage by using these three damage indices.
