  • Water gas shift reactor in fuel processing is an important part that converts carbon monoxide into hydrogen. Fuel processing system for PEMFC usually has two stages of WGS reactors, which are high temperature and low temperature shifter. In this study we prepared noble metal catalysts and compared their performances with that of a commercial iron chromium oxide catalyst. Noble metal catalysts and the commercial catalyst showed quite different temperature dependence of carbon monoxide conversion. The conversion of carbon monoxide at the commercial catalyst was very low at medium temperature(${\sim}300^{\circ}C$) and increased rapidly as temperature increased while the conversion at noble metal catalysts was high in the medium temperature range and decreased as temperature increased, which is thermodynamically expected. Their characteristics agreed well with the literature published, and we are accomplishing further study for improvement of the noble metal catalysts.

  • The paper proposes a test pattern generator and a signature analyzer for pseudoexhaustive testing of the combinational circuit part within a sequential circuit when performing built-in self test of the circuit. The test pattern generator can scan in the seed test pattern and generate exhaustive test patterns. The signature analyzer can perform the analysis of the circuit response and scan out the result. Such test pattern generator and signature analyzer have been developed using SRL(shift register latch) and LFSR(linear feedback shift register).

  • We present fast QR factorization algorithms $m{\times}n\;(m{\geq}n)$ Toeplitz matrix. These QR factorization algortihms are determined from the shift-invariance properties of underlying matrices. The major transformation tool is a stabilized/hyperbolic Householder transformation. The algortihms require O(mn) operations, and can be easily implemented on distributed-memory multiprocessors.

  • The performances of M-ary signals using L-branch maximum ratio combining (MRC) diversity reception in correlated Nakagami fading channels are derived theoretically. The coherent reception of M-ary differential phase shift keying (MDPSK), phase shift keying (MPSK), and quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) is considered. It is assumed that the fading parameters in each diversity branch are identical. The general formula for evaluating symbol error rate (SER) of M-ary signals in the independent branch diversity system is presented using the integral-form expressions. Until now, results did not extend to the various M-ary case for a coherent reception. The numerical results presented in this paper are expected to provide information for the design of radio system using M-ary modulation method for above mentioned channel environment.

  • This paper investigates syntactic variations in English such as Dative Alternation, Particle Inversion, and Object Postposition (Heavy NP Shift) within the framework of Optimality Theory, and shows that the same set of morphological, informational, and processing constraints affect all these variations. In particular, it shows that the variants that used to be regarded as ungrammatical are in fact used fairly often in reality, especially when processing or informational conditions are met, and therefore, grammatical judgment may not be always categorical but sometimes gradient. It is argued that the notion of distance in constraint ranking in stochastic OT can effectively explain the gradience and variability of grammaticality in the variation phenomena.

  • This paper introduces a new type of determining factor for Pseudo Random Strings (PRS). This classification depends upon a mathematical property called Finite Induction (FI). FI is similar to a Markov Model in that it presents a model of the sequence under consideration and determines the generating rules for this sequence. If these rules obey certain criteria, then we call the sequence generating these rules FI a PRS. We also consider the relationship of these kinds of PRS's to Good/deBruijn graphs and Linear Feedback Shift Registers (LFSR). We show that binary sequences from these special graphs have the FI property. We also show how such FI PRS's can be generated without consideration of the Hamiltonian cycles of the Good/deBruijn graphs. The FI PRS's also have maximum Shannon entropy, while sequences from LFSR's do not, nor are such sequences FI random.

  • To deal with the problems of occlusion, pose variations and illumination changes in the object tracking system, a regression model weighted multi-templates mean-shift (MS) algorithm is proposed in this paper. Target templates and occlusion templates are extracted to compose a multi-templates set. Then, the MS algorithm is applied to the multi-templates set for obtaining the candidate areas. Moreover, a regression model is trained to estimate the Bhattacharyya coefficients between the templates and candidate areas. Finally, the geometric center of the tracked areas is considered as the object's position. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on several classical videos. The experimental results show that the regression model weighted multi-templates MS algorithm can track an object accurately in terms of occlusion, illumination changes and pose variations.

  • We propose a symmetric key based cryptography algorithm to encode and decode the text data with limited length using 3-dimensional magic square matrix. To encode the plain text message, input text will be translated into an index of the number stored in the key matrix. Then, Caesar's shift with pre-defined constant value is fabricated to finalize an encryption algorithm. In decode process, Caesar's shift is applied first, and the generated key matrix is used with 2D magic squares to replace the index numbers in ciphertext to restore an original text.
