This paper reports the high sensitivity actuator for flexible disk. The air stabilized flexible optical disk has very small axial runout. Therefore, It is proper to develop an actuator which has high sensitivity in tracking direction rather than in focusing direction. In order to maximize driving force in radial direction, we present an efficient design of magnetic circuit with simple multi-polarized magnets and auxiliary magnets. Designed magnetic circuit has big force in tracking direction. And we shift 2$^{nd}$ resonance frequency of moving parts Into high frequency band, not causing increase of mass and discord between force and mass centers to secure high sensitivities and sufficient control bandwidth. Finally, experimental results show that designed actuator has superior sensitivity in tracking direction.

Dynamic models of line regulator valve(LRV) and ratio control valve (RCV) are obtained for an electronic controlled CVT. LRV and RCV are operated by variable force solenoid(VFS). Considering the CVT shift dynamics, oil pump's efficiency and saturation characteristics of VFS, simulations are performed and compared with test results. Simulation results are in good agreement with the experiments, which shows the validity of the dynamic models of LRV and RCV obtained. In addition, the effects of the orifice size in the exhaust port of RCV are investigated. Simulation results show that as the orifice size decreases, the residual pressure in the primary actuator increases which insures the large torque transmission capacity, meanwhile the duration time for the downshift increases.
Reduction in pressure transients may be important in the hydraulic system and necessary to avoid failure and to improve the efficiency of operation. This study addresses the design and use of an orifice to provide the desired control of the hydraulic actuator system. The experimental apparatus is a model of an automobile shift system. Control is accomplished by installing four different diameter ratio of orifices at appropriate locations in the system. Experimental results show that the orifice can be used to obtain the control of shock and the control level depends on the orifice size, orifice type, operating conditions.

For application to micro fluid control systems such as ${\mu}TAS$ (Micro Total Analysis Systems) and DDS (Drug Delivery Systems), it is very significant to handle precise and minute flow rates with low pressure pulsation. In this study, a novel valveless piezoelectric pump using peristaltic motion with three disk type PZT actuators is presented. The newly devised pump with an effective size of $70mm{\times}60mm{\times}55mm$ has three actuator layers connected in series from inlet to outlet. The PZT actuator has a maximum displacement of 240 ${\mu}m$ and a maximum force of 1.6 N. When the driving voltage for PZT actuators is sequentially applied with a certain phase shift, the pumping is performed by peristaltic motion of liquid volume. The working fluid is shut off without the driving voltage. Three methods for sequential driving are proposed and experimentally investigated. First and second methods utilize an intermittent sinusoidal waveform with phase shift of $90{\circ}\;and\;120^{\circ}$, respectively. Third method uses a rectangular waveform with phase shift of $90^{\circ}$. A controller with multi-phase shifter is designed and fabricated. Then, frequency and voltage-flow rate characteristics and load pressure-flow rate characteristics are experimentally investigated to verify the validity of the developed pump.

In this paper a stepping motor drive electronic ratio control system for a metal belt CVT is suggested. The electronic ratio control system developed in this study is designed to control flow rate which is required to obtain the shift speed and to control the primary actuator pressure to maintain the desired ratio. Considering these control characterstics a fuzzy logic is used for the CVT ratio control. Using the fuzzy logic dynamic models of the ratio control system is investigated and compared with the experimental results. The experimental and simulation results show that the electronic ratio control system developed in this study can be used in CVT system for the active control of the speed ratio.

In this paper, a novel high power micropump using active check valves in place of conventional passive check valves employed at the inlet and outlet ports is presented. It actively controls open/close motion of check valves using piezoelectric actuator for expansion/contraction of pump chamber. A prototype micropump having an effective size of $17mm{\times}8mm{\times}11mm$ is fabricated. Frequency-dependent flow rate characteristics, bi-directional flow characteristics and load characteristics are experimentally investigated using a timing control method for valve closing motion. From the obtained experimental results, it is ascertained that optimal values of the phase shift compared to the voltage to drive pump chamber are $15^{\circ}$ for inlet check valve and $195^{\circ}$ for outlet. Based on the obtained results, a sheet-type active shuttle valve that has a unified valve-body for inlet and outlet check valves is proposed. A micropump with an effective size of $10mm{\times}10mm{\times}10mm$ is fabricated and the basic characteristics are experimentally investigated.

A novel piezoelectric micropump using active check valves in place of conventional passive check valves in inlet and outlet has been proposed and investigated. It actively controls open/close motion of check valves using piezoelectric actuator for expansion/contraction of pump chamber. In this paper, bi-directional flow characteristics and load characteristics are experimentally investigated using an adequate timing control for valve closing motion with a prototype micropump fabricated with the effective size of $17{\times}8{\times}11mm^{3}$. From the experimental results, it is ascertained that optimal values of phase shift against voltage to drive pump chamber for realization of a miniaturized but powerful micropump, are $15^{\circ}$ in inlet check valve and $195^{\circ}$ in outlet. Based on the obtained results, a sheet-type active shuttle valve that has a unified valve-body for inlet and outlet check valves is proposed. A micropump with the effective size of $10{\times}10{\times}10mm^{3}$ is fabricated and basic characteristics are experimentally investigated.

The absorbing material is mostly used to changing the acoustic energy to the heat energy in the passive control, and that consists of the porous media. That controls an air borne noise while the stiffened plates, damping material and additional mass control a structure borne noise. The additional mass can decrease the sound by mass effect and shift of natural frequency, and damping material can decrease the sound by damping effect. The passive acoustic control using these kinds of control materials has an advantage that is possible to control the acoustic in the wide frequency band and the whole space at a price as compared with the active control using the various electronic circuit and actuator. But the space efficiency decreased and the control ability isn't up to the active control. So it is necessary to maximize the control ability in the specific frequency to raise the capacity of passive control minimizing the diminution of space efficiency such an active control. Therefore, the characteristics of control materials and the optimum layout of control materials that attached to the boundary of structure-acoustic coupled cavity were studied using sequential optimization on this study.

Optical axis misalignment, which represents the position deviation of the objective lens from the optical axis, is an inevitable assembly error in an optical pick-up. Since the laser power intensity varies with respect to the distance from the optical axis, the misalignment leads to variation of the laser spot power intensity, which is one of the critical factors increasing data bit-error-rate in optical disc drives. In this paper, an auto-adjustment scheme for optical axis alignment is proposed to eliminate the undesirable variation of the laser spot power intensity in optical disc drives. An envelope of the data RF signal is extracted and utilized to detect the optical axis misalignment. Then an adjustment input is added to the driving input of the tracking actuator to shift the objective lens to the optical axis. Finally, the feasibility is verified by experiments.
A tactile stimulator array using stacked PZT is fabricated and evaluated in this paper. The purpose of this research is the development of a tactile stimulator to represent the obstacle information for the visually disabled. As a first step of this research, we investigate the physiological characteristics of tactile stimuli and design a tactile stimulator based on the investigated results. Also we evaluated a fabricated tactile stimulator. The prototype of tactile stimulator which has 2x2 tactor elements with 3mm spacing is fabricated using stacked PZT actuator. In order to evaluate the characteristics of this tactile stimulator, physiological experiments are carried out. In the experiment, the threshold of tactile stimulus intensity within a frequency range of 5-500Hz and at various stimulus amplitudes are investigated. According to the obtained experimental result, the input signal of tactile stimulator for the transfer of obstacle information is determined. Also physiological experiments of multi-stimuli recognition such as shift and rotation are carried out.
