Shift Characteristics Analysis and Smooth Shift for an Automatic Power Transmission

  • Smooth shift is one of the key issues in automatic power transmission control systems. However, the torque sensors are too expensive to be used in shift controllers on production vehicles. In order to provide a basic strategy for smooth shifting by using RPM sensors only and in order to accomplish the shift within a designated time, this paper studies detailed characteristics of the smooth shift for clutch-to-clutch shift mechanism. A desired trajectory of slip speed is proposed for smooth acceleration shift defined in this paper. Also the clutch torque needed to achieve this trajectory is derived, and it may be used as a open loop shift control law.

  • In this study, a shift control algorithm far improving the shift quality of a parallel hybrid drivetrain with an automated manual transmission (AM) is proposed. The general AMT requires the sophisticated control of clutch in the clutch engagement to improve its shift characteristics, and that is generally known to be difficult. But in this hybrid drivetrain, we can control the speeds of clutch plates by engine and motor control, and it provides the easier clutch control in shift process than general AMT. Additionally, it permits the much-reduced shift shock. The motor control during the shift period is also to achieve reduced velocity drop of the vehicle in comparison with that of a general AMT. Furthermore various dynamometer-based experiments are carried out to prove the validity of the proposed shift control algorithm.

  • To cope with quest to improve the fuel economy and vehicle performance, Continuously Variable Transmission with Changing the speed ratio between minimum and maximum ratio by infinite step, is more efficient than conventional multi-ratio transmission. In this paper, to investigate a specific CVT shift ratio diagram and CVT shift characteristics, CVT vehicle was tested on the proving ground and chassis dynamometer. The test results are as follows; CVT can obtain the excellent vehicle performance and fuel economy changing the shift ratio by infinite step, without rapid change of engine revolution and driving force. And CVT can set up a special shift range that obtains not only the engine brake effect but also the maximum speed driving.

  • Detailed mathematical models of hybrid drivertrain components are presented and numerical simulations are carried out to analyze the shift characteristics and to improve the driving comfortability when the hybrid drivetrain is applied at the vehicle . Theoretical results are compared with experimental ones from the dynamometer as same condition in order to prove the appropriateness of modeling . Adding the vehicle body modeling, included in the suspension and the engine mount, it is possible to predict the dynamic behavior and shift characteristics more actually when shifts are occurred by automated manual transmission(AMT). these additional results are also compared with the same simulation ones of internal combustion engined vehicle equipped conventional manual transmission. Hence, it can be expected that the hybrid vehicle with AMT has a good shift quality.

Association of Sleep Characteristics with Medication Errors for Shift Work Nurses in Intensive Care Units (중환자실 교대근무간호사의 수면특성과 투약오류와의 관계)

  • Purpose: Shift work disrupts the synchronization between the human biological clock and the environment. Sleep disturbances are common for shift work nurses, and may threaten patient safety. This study was done to investigate the sleep characteristics and medication errors (ME) of intensive care unit (ICU) nurses who work shifts, and ascertain if there is an association between these factors. Methods: Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire from 126 ICU nurses on three shifts. Collected data included their sleep characteristics including sleep patterns and sleep disturbances, and ME for the past 2 weeks. Results: There were significant differences in sleep duration and sleep latency according to shift. Day shift nurses had the shortest sleep duration, and their sleep latency was the longest (about 49 minutes) compared to nurses on evening and night shifts; 54% reported sleep disturbances, 16% experienced ME, and among these nurses 50% were on the night shift. Logistic regression analysis revealed significant associations between nurses' sleep duration and ME (adjusted OR 0.52 [95% CI 0.32-0.85]). Conclusions: The results confirmed that shift work nurses in the ICUs experience sleep disturbance, and that less sleep is associated with ME.

Design of reflection type low phase shift attenuator (반사형 저위상 변화 감쇠기의 설계)

  • A transmission type phase shift attenuator has a poor reflection characteristics at an output port. And that is controlled by the current, its dynamic rnage decreases due to the current limitation. In this paper, to avoid such disadvantages, a reflection type low phase shift attenuator has been designed and measured. As a result, at a center frequency (1855MHz), the sreflection type low pahse shift attenuator has an attenuation of 30dB, within the limit of 3 phase shift and less than -17dB reflection characteristics at both input and output ports. And it demonstrates the peformance of the reflection type low phase shift attenuator is better than the transmission type phase shift attenuator with the same measurement specifications.

  • This paper presents shift characteristics of a dual clutch transmission(DCT). To obtain the shift force, dynamic models of the DCT are constructed by using MATLAB/Simulink and considering the rotational inertia of every component and the target pre-select time. Dynamic models of the shift and clutch actuators are derived based on the experimental results of the dynamic characteristics test. Based on the dynamic model of the DCT synchronizer, control actuator and vehicle model, a DCT vehicle performance simulator is developed. Using the simulator, the shift force and speed of the relevant shafts are obtained. In addition, the torque and acceleration of actuators are calculated during the shift process by considering the engaging and disengaging dynamics of the two clutches. It is observed from the performance simulator that uninterrupted torque can be transmitted by proper control of the two clutches.

  • Gap Sensor is widely used to measure vibration in power plant. In general the result of the vibration measurement may have special error due to two thermal characteristics of gap sensor such as sensitivity shift and zero shift. Thermal sensitivity is change of linearity and thermal zero shift is chang of offset. It is investigated two thermal characteristics for Rap son or in this paper.

  • Dynamic simulation techniques are developed to analyze the shift characteristics of vehicle powertraisn with automatic transmission. In this study, the mathematical modeling of powertrain components such as engine , clutch system, planetary gear system and road load , is presented for the simulation. The clutch engagement condition, which determines the degree of freedom for the system, is also proposed .By using a detailed nonlinear model of torque converter, it is possibile to accurately analyze the extremely transient state such as the shift. Dynamo-based experiments are carried out to prove the validity of the proposed simulation techniques. Using the developed simulation program, the effects of the dynamic design variables and the control conditions , focused on the shift, are evaluated to improve the driving comforability.

The relationships between dietary behavior and health related factors according to shift work in nurses (간호사들의 교대근무가 식행동 및 건강관련요인에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress, dietary habits, dietary behaviors, and health-related behavior of nurses. Method: The subjects of this study were 161 nurses studying at a cyber university. The general characteristics, stress, dietary habits, dietary behaviors, and health-related behavior of the subjects were surveyed using a self-administered questionnaire in October, 2010. The subjects were divided into two groups according to the working pattern: shift workers (n = 110) and non-shift workers (n = 51). Results: In the general characteristics, there were significant differences in marriage, monthly income, employment type, and job satisfaction between the two groups. Total stress score did not differ significantly between the two groups. In dietary habits, significant differences in meal regularity, skipping meals, skipping reasons, having regular mealtimes, frequency of snack and the snack time between shift workers and non-shift workers (p<0.05). Total score of dietary behaviors in shift workers was significantly lower than that in non-shift workers (p<0.05). Score of shift workers in taking three meals per day regularly was significantly lower than that of non-shift workers. In health-related behavior, a significant difference in sleeping time was observed between shift workers and non-shift workers. Dietary behavior showed negative correlation with shift work (r = 0.176) and positive correlation with health consciousness (r = 0.210) and perceived health status (r = 0.198) in subjects after adjustment for age, marriage, monthly income, and employment type (p < 0.05). Multiple regression analysis revealed that shift work, health consciousness, and perceived health status affected dietary behavior in subjects. Conclusion: These results indicate that shift working nurses had poor dietary habits and dietary behaviors, and these dietary behaviors are affected by their shift work, health consciousness, and perceive health status.
