To determine the movement patterns, home range, and use of structural features of captive-bred one- or two-year-old Amur ratsnake (Elaphe schrenckii) juveniles in the natural habitat, we radio-tracked a total of 11 juvenile snakes in a mountain valley in Chiaksan National Park, South Korea, between August 21 and September 20, 2010 and between June 13 and July 13, 2011. During the first week of the release, most juveniles moved short distances, daily, but they increased their distances after the first week. The body weight of the juveniles was negatively related with the movement rate (dividing the number of movements by the number of relocations), which was positively related with the mean daily distances moved and the size of both a kernel 50% and 95% home range. During the study period, the juveniles moved daily, approximately 17 m, and the size of the minimum convex polygon and the 50% and 95% kernel home ranges were 1.8 ha, 0.4 ha, and 3.0 ha, respectively. The released captive-bred juveniles were more frequently confirmed underground or on the ground rather than on rocks or on trees. Our results suggest that the body condition of released individuals, the seasonal time of the release, and the existence of available prey and shelters in the habitat should be carefully considered when releasing captive-bred Amur ratsnake juveniles for the rehabilitation of field populations.

The lack of research on the suitability of park green spaces as a form of earthquake shelter leads to difficultiesin highlighting the functions of these shelters. In this study, the weight value and priority of 27 indexes derived from previous studies are calculated by the AHP method and then a score table was established via a transformed score method. The final evaluation grade is divided into five levels: very inadequate, inadequate, general, adequate, highly adequate. Finally, indexes that were difficult to judge were explained. Based on this, the suitability evaluation of park green spaces as a form of earthquake shelter can be performed. The evaluation results can reflect the advantages and disadvantages of park green space as a form of earthquake shelter and indicate directionsfor construction in the future.
Since the late 19th century, the annual average temperature of the Earth has risen due to excessive emission of greenhouse gases, and abnormal weather phenomena such as heavy rain and heavy snowfall have been increasing frequently all over the world. In a city with high population growth due to high economic growth, fire and terrorist accidents can cause serious property damage and human casualties. The purpose of this study is to propose the need for evacuated facilities to protect victims, and suggest adequate shelters' size which can be protectable them. In spite of the Ministry of Public Safety and Security designated 3.3 square meters of per capita capacity, they does not specify the basis about setting this criterion.
The recent domestic violence research has emphasized an integrated approach to wife battering and child abuse to overcome separated understanding and problem-solving alternatives of the two phenomena in the past. This phenomenological study is designed to understand struggles and dilemmas of battered women and their children related to their surviving and coping with domestic violence in a mother-child relationship. In-depth interviews were conducted with ten battered women who have children and reside in shelters in Seoul and Anyang, and were analyzed by Atlas.ti(a qualitative software program) to maximize the efficiency of data analysis. Domestic violence can be transformed into and integrated with child abuse anytime, so battered women and their children share their crises and challenges related to motherliness and filial love. However, the mutual, existential meaning embedded in the mother-child relationship can be the most important sources to mobilize their life energy and resilience in their copping efforts. The social work interventions for battered women and their children should be integrated with a premise of deep understanding of the complex realities of domestic violence victims.
Purpose: To provide the basic data for nursing intervention to improve the psychosocial adaptation of unemployed homeless by examining the degree of self-esteem, depression. and hope, and the relation of these variables. Method: The subjects were a volunteer sample of 218 unemployed homeless residing at 2 shelters in Seoul and Suwon, Korea. The instruments for this study were Rosenberg's self-esteem scale, Beck's depression inventory, and Miller and Powers's hope scale. Using the SPSS program, the data were analysed by frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and Pearson Correlation Coefficient. Result: 1) The degree of self-esteem is, on average, 23.72 points, depression is 24.41 points, and hope is 124.72 points. 2) The degree of self-esteem in the general characteristics of the subjects showed a significant difference by age, marital status, and contact with family. 3) The degree of depression in the general characteristics of the subjects showed a significant difference by age, marital status, and contact with family. 4) The degree of hope in the general characteristics of the subjects showed a significant difference by contact with family. 5) There was a significant positive correlation between the variables of self-esteem and hope, while there was a significant negative correlation between the variables of self-esteem and depression, and hope and depression. Conclusion: 1) The study identifies psychological characteristics of the homeless. 2) It is required not only to develop nursing intervention programs to improve the degree of self-esteem and hope, and alleviate depression but also to testify the effect of the program. 3) It is needed to develop nursing intervention programs to prevent chronic homelessness.
As the number of children's libraries has increased in Korea, it has been discussed to improve the quality of design in the libraries. In a reading room of children's library, spatial consideration should be focused on the children under 10 years old since they are in important points to learn Hangul and to develop reading habits. This study is aimed to examine the characteristics of a floor-sitting reading room, where children can feel like a home, stay in clean and safe and play while reading. The seven case studies of floor-sitting reading rooms are analyzed from the viewpoint of each factor of physical environment, including structure, furniture, and decoration. The following is the summary of findings of this study. First, floor-sitting reading rooms tend to compose main reading areas around bookshelves. Reading areas create the characters by changing floor levels and arranging furniture associated with windows, columns, and wall-type bookshelves. In the reading areas, movable low-level tables are frequently placed for flexible space uses, and seats for reading tend to put together with fixed bookshelves. Second, the central areas of the reading rooms are often shaped in the forms of pods, storytelling areas, sculptures, and unique furniture. Especially storytelling areas and pods play the cores of the reading rooms with the varying steps of floors and pictorial graphics on walls. Third, decoration elements in the reading rooms are designed with graphics, visual displays, and sculptural decorations. In my case studies, spatial elements such as reading nooks, attics, tunnels, and shelters are not often found in the floor-sitting reading rooms even though children like to have them. Since it is the advantage of floor-sitting reading rooms where children can take off shoes and act freely, we should look for the design of such spatial elements in the floor-sitting reading rooms.
Various kinds of leaf spots and blights were found in kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) orchards on 2006 in Korea. Disease incidences were quite variable between open-field and rain-proof shelter. Rate of diseased leaves was recorded as about 70% at open-field orchards in late season but use of rain-proof vinyl shelters alleviated the disease incidences by 20%. Angular leaf spots appeared at early infection stage on June and several other symptoms were also recognized as the disease developed afterward. On September, brown leaf blights were the most frequent, followed by grayish brown ring spots, silvering gray leaf blights, zonate leaf blights, dark brown ring spots and angular leaf spots at open-field orchards. Four fungal species were frequently isolated from the disease symptoms. Phomopsis sp. was the most predominant fungus associated with the leaf spot and blight symptoms on kiwifruit, followed by Glomerella cingulata, Alternaria alternata and Pestalo-tiopsis sp. Phomopsis sp. was commonly isolated from angular leaf spots, silvering gray leaf blights, and zonate brown leaf blights. G. cingulata, A. alternata and Pestalotiopsis sp. were isolated from grayish brown ring spots (anthracnose), brown ring spots and zonate dark brown leaf blights. Typical symptoms appeared on the wounded and unwounded leaves, which were inoculated by each of Phomopsis sp., G. cingulata, and Pestalotiopsis sp., but A. alternata caused symptoms only on the wounded leaves.

The purpose of this study is to develop a method to spread out the ecological ponds in urban areas more effectively. It is urgent to supply the ecological ponds in more broad scope to ensure the water space in urban areas which has been dried out. It is necessary to formulate a plan for improving the amenity in the cities through creation a biotop in swampy land by building rainfall ponds. Thus, a model of the ecological pond in this study has been developed by reviewing the related researches which provide the theoretical basis and by considering the characteristics of nature for a naturally approached pond. This study has produced a ecological pond model in order to introduce and spread out damp biotop. Ecological aspects have been mainly considered in designing and building the pond model. This model consists of areas for emerged plants and bog plants and has its advantage in providing animals and insects with habitats and shelters. In addition, the model includes areas for emerged plants, which are very effective in purification of the rainfall from the rooftop. After the construction of the pond, the plants were planted according to the plan, and the infiltration trench was installed beside the pond to drain out the overflow of the pond. The result of this research has shown the possibility of supplying the ecological pond in small parks and in schools of the city in an easy way. Through the application of this pond system, the water cycle and the ecosystem in urban areas will be improved.

The 21st century is often referred to as maritime age. The sea is a rich repository of natural resources, comfort shelters and the hopes and dreams of human being. But there is always possibility of disaster as well as hopes and dreams. Although there have been many advances in the ship building technology, the risk of accidents is on the increase due to the increase of maritime traffic and the revitalization of marine leisure. I like to refer to the systematic search and rescue system for the rapid response by analyzing recent marine accidents. For the safe navigation, it is necessary to establish institutional systems such as ship technology, navigation equipments, excellent human resources, traffic control, etc. and navigation components also have to be well organized each other. It is also necessary to build a prompt accident management system. The search and rescue system for the rapid response and the way of reducing the incidence of marine accidents were reviewed through the analysis of recent marine accidents.

Tornadoes are vertical swirling air formed because of the existence of layers of air with contrasting features of temperature, wind flow, moisture, and density. Tornadoes induce completely different wind forces than a straight-line (SL) wind. A suitably designed building for an SL wind may fail when exposed to a tornado-wind of the same wind speed. It is necessary to design buildings that are more resistant to tornadoes. In tornado-damaged areas, dome buildings seem to have less damage. As a dome structure is naturally wind resistant, domes have been used in back yards, as single family homes, as in-law quarters, man caves, game rooms, storm shelters, etc. However, little attention has been paid to the tornadic wind interactions with dome buildings. In this work, the tornado forces on a dome are computed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for tornadic and SL wind. Then, the interaction of a tornado with a dome and a prism building are compared and analyzed. This work describes the results of the tornado wind effect on dome and prism buildings. The conclusions drawn from this study are illustrated in visualizations. The tornado force coefficients on a dome building are larger than SL wind forces, about 120% more in x- and y-directions and 280% more in z-direction. The tornado maximum pressure coefficients are also higher than SL wind by 150%. The tornado force coefficients on the prism are larger than the forces on the dome, about 100% more in x- and y-directions, and about 180% more in z-direction. The tornado maximum pressure coefficients on prism also are greater those on dome by 150% more. Hence, a dome building has less tornadic load than a prism because of its aerodynamic shape.
