Background: In order to measure neutron energy spectra, the conventional Bonner Sphere Spectrometers (BSS) are widely used. In this spectrometer, several measurements with different size Bonner spheres are required. Operators should, therefore, place these spheres in several times to a measurement point where radiation dose might be relatively high. In order to reduce this effort, novel neutron energy spectrometer using an onion-like single Bonner sphere was proposed in our group. This Bonner sphere has multiple sensitive spherical shell layers in the single sphere. In this spectrometer, a band-shaped thermal neutron detection medium, which consists of a LiF-ZnS mixed powder scintillator sheet and a wavelength-shifting (WLS) fiber readout, was looped to each sphere at equal angular intervals. Amount of LiF neutron converter is reduced near polar region, where the band-shaped detectors are concentrated, in order to uniform the directional sensitivity. The LiF-ZnS mixed powder has an advantage of extremely high light yield. However, since it is opaque, scintillation photons cannot be collect uniformly. This type of detector shows no characteristic shape in the pulse height spectrum. Subsequently, it is difficult to set the pulse height discrimination level. This issue causes sensitivity fluctuation due to gain instability of photodetectors and/or electric modules. Materials and Methods: In order to solve this problem, we propose to replace the LiF-ZnS mixed powder into a flexible and Transparent RUbber SheeT type $LiCaAlF_6$ (TRUST LiCAF) scintillator. TRUST LiCAF scintillator can show a peak shape corresponding to neutron absorption events in the pulse height spectrum. Results and Discussion: We fabricated the prototype detector with five sensitive layers using TRUST LiCAF scintillator and conducted basic experiments to evaluate the directional uniformity of the sensitivity. Conclusion: The fabricated detector shows excellent directional uniformity of the neutron sensitivity.
GSH 006-15+7 is a Milky Way supershell discovered by Moss et al. (2012). This supershell shows large shell-like structures in H I velocity maps. We have analyzed FUV emission for the supershell regions based on the FIMS and GALEX observations. Bright FUV flux at the boundaries of the supershell is mostly originated from dust scattering of FUV photons by dust clouds which was also observed at the boundaries of the supershell. We could find the distance to the supershell can be closer more than 30% compared with the distance of 1500 pc suggested by Moss et al. (2012) from the dust scattering simulation. And we also found the albedo and the phase function asymmetry factor of interstellar grains were 0.30 and 0.40, respectively. The confidence range for the albedo covers the theoretical value of 0.40, but g-factor is rather smaller than the theoretical value of 0.65. The small g-factor might mean the environment of turbulent ISM of the supershell. Meanwhile, the excess of C IV and X-ray emissions in the inside of the supershell can support the existence of hot gas and cooling in the supershell. And the C IV and X-ray emissions are monotonically decrease as away from the center of the SNR. This indicates the size of the hot bubble has considerably shrunk. We applied a simple simulation model to the PDR candidate region of the lower part of the supershell and obtained a H2 column density N(H2) = 1017.0-18.0 cm-2 and total hydrogen density nH ${\geq}$ 10 cm-3. This result shows the PDR candidate region represents a transition region from the warm phase to the cool phase in the PDR.
Passive samplers have been used for many years for the sampling of organic vapors in work environment atmospheres. Currently, all passive samplers used in domestic occupational monitoring are foreign products. This study was performed to evaluate variable parameters for the development of passive organic samplers, which include the geometry of the device and diffusive length for the sampler design. Four prototype diffusive lengths; A-1(4.5 mm), A-2(7.0 mm), A-3(9.5 mm), A-4(12.0 mm) were tested for adsorption performances to a chemical mixture (benzene, toluene, trichloroethylene, and n-hexane) according to the US-OSHA's evaluation protocol. A dynamic vapor exposure chamber developed and verified by related research was used for this study. The results of study are as follows. The results in terms of sampling rate and recommended sampling time test indicate that the most suitable model was A-3 (9.5 mm diffusive lengths on both sides) for passive sampler design in time weighted average (TWA) assessment. Sampling rates of this A-3 model were 45.8, 41.5, 41.4, and 40.3 ml/min for benzene, toluene, trichloroethylene, and n-hexane, respectively. The A-3 models were tested on reverse diffusion and conditions of low humidity air (35% RH) and low concentrations (0.2 times of TLV). These conditions had no affect on the diffusion capacity of samplers. In conclusion, the most suitable design parameters of passive sampler are: 1) Geometry and structure - 25 mm diameter and 490 $mm^2$ cross sectional area of diffusion face with cylindrical form of two-sided opposite diffusion direction; 2) Diffusive length - 9.5 mm in both faces; 3) Amount of adsorbent - 300 mg of coconut shell charcoal; 4) Wind screen - using nylon net filters (11 ${\mu}m$ pore size).

In an original effort, this lab attempted to employ polystyrene nanoparticles as a template for the synthesis of ordered and highly porous macroporous $SiO_2$ thin films, utilizing their high combustion temperature and narrow size distribution. However, polystyrene nanoparticle thin films were not obtained due to the low interaction between individual particles and between the particle and silicon substrate. However, polystyrene-polyacrylic acid (PS-AA) colloidal particles of a core-shell structure were synthesized by a one-pot miniemulsion polymerization approach, with hydrophilic polyacrylic acid tails on the particle surface that improved interaction between individual particles and between the particle and silicon substrate. The PS-AA thin films were spin-coated in the thickness ranges from monolayer to approximately $1.0\;{\mu}m$. Using the PS-AA thin films as sacrificial templates, macroporous $SiO_2$ thin films were successfully synthesized by vapor deposition or conventional solution sol-gel infiltration methods. Inspection with field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) showed that the macroporous $SiO_2$ thin films consist of interconnected air balls (~100 nm). Typical macroporous $SiO_2$ thin films showed ultralow refractive indices ranging from 1.098 to 1.138 at 633 nm, according to the infiltration conditions, which were confirmed by spectroscopy ellipsometry (SE) measurements. This research shows how the synthetic control of the macromolecule such as hydrophilic polystyrene nanopaticles and silicate sol precursors innovates the optical properties and processabilities for actual applications.
We updated the far-ultraviolet (FUV) spectral images of the entire Vela supernova remnant (SNR) using newly processed FIMS/SPEAR data. In the present study, we compare the newly produced FUV images with the X-ray and $H{\alpha}$ images, and examine how the Vela SNR evolves and interacts with the ambient medium on a global scale. The comparison with X-ray images has revealed a FUV filamentary feature corresponding with the boundary of the northeast-southwest asymmetry of the X-ray shell. The relatively low O IV] ${\lambda}1404$ to O III] ${\lambda}{\lambda}1661$, 1666 ratio estimated on the FUV filament is compatible with the previous proposal that the observed asymmetry of the Vela SNR could be due to the ${\gamma}2$ Velorum stellar wind bubble (SWB). The southwest FUV features surrounding a faint extended X-ray region are characterized as the region where the Vela SNR is interacting slightly stronger with ambient mediums within the dim X-ray southwest section. From a comparison with the $H{\alpha}$ image, we identify a ring-like $H{\alpha}$ feature overlapped with an extended hot X-ray feature of similar size and two local peaks of C IV ${\lambda}{\lambda}1548$, 1551 emission. Their morphologies are consistent with the expected shape when the $H{\alpha}$ ring is in direct contact with the near or far side of the Vela SNR. We suggest that the B3V-type star HD 76161 found at the center of the $H{\alpha}$ ring would be the exciting source of the H II region.
Ibuprofen-loaded gelatin microcapsule, a solid form of microcapsules simultaneously containing ethanol and ibuprofen in water-soluble gelatin shell was previously reported to improve the dissolution of drug. In this study, to retard the initial high dissolution of ibuprofen from gelatin microcapsule, the ibuprofen-loaded cross-linked gelatin microcapsule was prepared by treating an ibuprofen-loaded gelatin microcapsule with glutaraldehyde and its dissolution was evaluated compared to ibuprofen powder and gelatin microcapsule. The ibuprofen-loaded crosslinked microcapsule treated with glutaraldehyde for 10 and 60 sec gave significantly higher dissolution rates than did ibuprofen powder. Furthermore, the dissolution rate of ibuprofen from the cross-linked microcapsule treated for 10 sec was similar to that from gelatin microcapsule. However, the dissolution rate of ibuprofen from the cross-linked microcapsule treated for 60 sec decreased significantly compared to gelatin microcapsule, suggesting that the treatment of gelatin microcapsule with glutaraldehyde for 60 sec could cross-link the gelatin microcapsule. Furthermore, the cross-linking of gelatin microcapsule markedly retarded the release rate of ibuprofen in pH 1.2 simulated gastric fluid compared to gelatin microcapsule. However, the cross-linking of gelatin microcapsule with glutaraldehyde hardly changed the size of gelatin microcapsules, ethanol and ibuprofen contents encapsulated in gelatin microcapsule. Thus, the ibuprofen-loaded cross-linked gelatin microcapsule could retard the initial high dissolution of poorly water-soluble ibuprofen.
To manufacture the MLCC with X7R for high voltage stability, $BaTiO_3-MgO-MnO_2-Y_2O_3$ with $(Ba_{0.4}Ca_{0.6})SiO_3$ glass frit was formulated. Based on this composition, the addition of $Er_2O_3$ showed that TCC(Temperature Coefficient Capacitance) at $85^{\circ}C$ was improved from 5 % to ${\sim}0\;%$, but the dielectric constant and IR (Insulation Resistance) were decreased. The glass frit improved the dielectric constant and IR, so the appropriate contents of $Er_2O_3$ and glass frit were 0.6 mol% and 1 wt%, respectively. It showed that the dielectric constant and RC constant were 2,550 and 2,000 (${\Omega}F$), respectively in the sintering condition at $1250^{\circ}C$ in PO2 $10^{-7}$ Mpa. The MLCC with $3.2{\times}1.6$ (mm) size and $1\;{\mu}F$ was also suited for X7R with the above composition.
