소형 쉘앤튜브형 열교환기의 운전 조건에 따른 열유동 거동 특성 해석 (Analysis on Characteristics of Behavior of Thermal Flow According to Operation Conditions of Small-sized Shell and Tube-type Heat Exchanger)

  • The shell and tube-type heat exchanger was the most utilized in industrial field because of its simple structure and wide operation conditions and so on. This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of behavior of thermal flow according to operation condition of small-sized shell and tube-type heat exchanger. The operation conditions, here, were set up to flow rate of hot air with temperature of 100℃, number of baffle and cut rate of baffle(BCR) using numerical analysis. As the results, both mean relative pressure and relative pressure drop was increased with quadratic curve in case of less than BCR 25%, however, decreased linearly in case of more than BCR 25%. The collision with first baffle by flow velocity and temperature, of hot air, respectively, was depended on BCR. Further it showed that the behaviors between flow velocity and temperature were almost similar.

  • The numerical analysis by using CFX 11.0 commercial code was done for prediction of fluid flow and thermal field in the vertical heat exchanger. The present experimental studies were also conducted to investigate the effects of circulating solid particles on the fluid flow and temperatures in the fluidized bed vertical shell and tube type heat exchanger with counterflow, at which the solid particles of glasses (3 $mm{\Phi}$) were used in the fluidized bed with a smooth tube. The effect of circulation on the distance(L) of tube inlet and baffle plate was also examined. The present experimental and numerical results showed that the particles in the distance (Ds) of 15 mm showed a more efficient circulation without stacked the space and the LMTD(Log Mean Temperature Difference) in the fluidized bed type was much lower than that in the typical type shell and tube heat exchanger.

선박 연료탱크 내 가온기의 열유동 및 안전성 평가에 관한 해석 (Study of Heat Transfer and Safety Evaluation for Heating Coils in the Fuel Tank of a Ship)

  • The fuel tank of a ship is filled with heavy fuel oil (HFO) that has a very high viscosity. In order to inject the HFO into the engine easily, heating coils are usually installed inside the fuel tank to heat the HFO and lower its viscosity. Currently, several different types of heating coils are used, e.g., fin-type, bare-type, drum-type, and shell-and-tube-type. It is well known that the shell-and-tube-type heating coil has good performance and high efficiency. In this study, experiments were conducted to determine the heat transfer efficiencies of three different shell-and-tube-type heating coils. Heat transfer efficiency was evaluated by using FLUENT 6.3.26 software. Also, structural safety was assessed by using ANSYS.simulation software.

  • Nowadays heat exchangers that have been applied for freon refrigerating systems, a shell and tube type condenser, but because of their large size, large space for installation and more amount of refrigerants are needed. Therefore, in this study, we will find the most suitable operating condition through the comparison of performance between the shell & tube type and shell & disk type heat exchanger with R22. The experiments are carried out for the condensing pressure of refrigeration system from 1500kPa to 1600kPa and for the degree of superheat from 0 to $1^{\circ}C$ at each condensing pressure. As a result of experiment, if the shell & disk type heat exchanger is applied for R22 refrigerating systems, minimized input of refrigerants and space required for installation will be secured, which will have a great contribute to financial improvement for industry.

  • The flow pattern inside the inlet chamber of the tube side is one of the key parameters influencing on the performances of the shell-and-tube type of heat exchangers(STHE). In order to improve the flow distribution, the baffle shaped as the porous plate is installed in the inlet chambers. In the present study, numerical simulation has been performed to investigate the flow features of the tube side of the STHE in sense of the hydraulic performances. The flow fields have been analysed by the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes solvers with the proper turbulent models. Computational domain is ranged in the whole of the tube side of the STHE. The numerical results showed that the presence of the baffles improves the redistribution of the flow injecting to the tube bundels. The good agreements of the numerical results with the experimental results of PIV measurements have been shown for the validation of the numerical methods adopted in the present papers.

Characteristics of Fluid Flow in the Fluidized Bed Shell and Tube Type Heat Exchanger with Corrugated Tubes

  • An experimental study was carried on the characteristics of fluid flow and heat transfer in a fluidized bed shell-and-tube type heat exchanger with corrugated tubes. Seven different solid particles having same volume were circulated in the tubes. The effects of vari­ous parameters such as water flow rates, particle geometries and materials, and geometries of corrugated tubes on relative velocities and drag coefficients were investigated. The present work showed that the drag force coefficients of particles in the corrugated tubes were usually lower than those in the smooth tubes, meanwhile the relative velocities between particles and water in the corrugated tubes were little higher than those in the smooth tubes except the particles of glasses.

  • 촉매막반응기란 반응기와 분리막이 동시에 하나의 과정으로 결합된 unit로, 촉매막반응기를 사용할 경우 가역 반응에서 막을 통한 생성물의 선택적 제거는 화학 평형이동을 유발시켜 열역학적으로 얻을수 있는 평형 전환율보다 높은 전환유을 얻을 수 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 촉매막반응기의 성능에 대한 실험적 연구로, 산 촉매하에서 일어나는 MTBE 분해반응을 12-텅스토인산 촉매상에서 수행하였다.

  • Shell & Tube type Oil Cooler is widely used for hydraulic presses, die casting machines, generation equipments, machine tools and construction heavy machinery. Temperature of oil in the hydraulic system changes viscosity and thickness of oil film. They have a bad effect to performance and lubrication of hydraulic machinery, so it is important to know exactly the heat exchanging efficiency of oil cooler for controlling oil temperature. But most Korean manufacturers do not have test equipment for oil cooler, so they cannot carry out the efficiency test of oil cooler and it is impossible to verify its performance. This paper includes information of construction of necessary utilities for oil cooler test and design and manufacture of test equipment. One can select the optimum product by obtaining performance data through tests of various kinds of oil coolers. And also the paper developed a program which can be easily used for design of 2D and 3D drawings of oil cooler.

  • Nowadays heat exchangers that have been applied for freon refrigerating systems, a shell and tube type condenser and a flooded evaporator have been used, but because of their large size, large space for installation and amount of refrigerants are needed. In this study, we will find the most suitable operating condition of shell and disk type optimum heat exchanger which can minimize the amount of a refrigerant and allow its minimum leakage. The condensing pressure of refrigeration system is increased from 15.0bar to 16.0bar and degree of superheat is increased from 0 to $10^{\circ}C$ at each condensing pressure. As a result of study, It revealed that shell and disk type heat exchanger was applicable to the freon refrigeration system
