  • In practical engineering, the design process for most retaining walls necessitates careful consideration of seismic resistance. The prevention of retaining wall overturning is of paramount importance, especially in cases where the foundation's bearing capacity is limited. To research the seismic active earth pressure (ES) of a relieving retaining wall rotating around base (RB), the shear dissipation graphs across various operating conditions are analyzed by using Optum software, and the earth pressure in each region was derived by the inclined strip method combined with the limit equilibrium method. By observing shear dissipation graphs across various operating conditions, the distribution law of each sliding surface is summarized, and three typical failure modes are obtained. The corresponding calculation model was established. Then the resultant force and its action point were obtained. By comparing the theoretical and numerical solutions with the previous studies, the correctness of the derived formula is proved. The variation of earth pressure distribution and resultant force under seismic acceleration are studied. The unloading plate's position, the wall heel's length, and seismic acceleration will weaken the unloading effect. On the contrary, the length of the unloading plate and the friction angle of the filling will strengthen the unloading effect. The derived formula proposed in this study demonstrates a remarkable level of accuracy under both static and seismic loading conditions. Additionally, it serves as a valuable design reference for the prevention of overturning in relieving retaining walls.

  • Fracture toughness characterization in the transition region is examined for heat-treated and ionnitrided Ni-Cr-Mo steel. After heat treatment for the specimens of Ni-Cr-Mo steel, organizations of specimens-specimens which are heat-treated and ion-nitrided for 4 hours at 500 .deg. C and 5 torr in 25%N/dub 2/-75%H/sub 2/mixed gas-, hardness variety, and X-ray diffraction pattern of the ion-nitriding compound layer are observed. Fracture toughenss test of unloading compliance method were conducted over the regions from room trmperature to -70.deg. C. The compound layer was consisted of r'=Fe/sub 4/N phase and ion-nitrided layer's depth was 200mm from surface. The transition regions of heat-treated and ion-nitrided specimens were about -30.deg. C and -50.deg. C, respectively. The transition region of ion-nitrided specimens is estimated less than that of heat-treated one, and this is the effect of ion-nitriding.

  • This article intends to examine main features of revision in relation to the duration of cover in the Institute Cargo Clauses 2009 and the results of analysis are as followings. First, the cover, which had been "warehouse to warehouse", has been extended to what may be called "shelf to unloading". Thus the insurance attaches when the goods are first moved within the warehouse or place of storage at the named place for the purpose of immediate loading for the commencement of transit. Secondly, the new termination Clause 8.1.3 requires an election by the assured, or their employees, to use a vehicle or container, for storage other than in the ordinary course of transit. Thirdly, Clause 10.1, which deals with the assured's voluntary change of voyage, was amended to solve the problem that the words "held covered" could be misunderstood by an assured without specialist knowledge of English marine insurance law to be a guarantee of cover, even where cover would not be commercially available. Finally, Clause 10.2 is designed to solve the so-called "phantom ship problem", arising from the harsh decision in The Prestrioka. The new Clause 10.2 provides protection for an innocent assured in the situation of a phantom ship.

  • Fracture toughness JIC and KIC tests were performed on A516 Gr70 carbon steel plate at the temperature ranging from -$160^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$, and test results were analyzed according to ASTM E 813 and ASTM E 399. Unloading compliance J-integral tests were performed on 1TCT specimens. The relation between the $J_{IC}$ value and the test temperature was obtained. It was concluded that the temperature ranging from $-15^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$ is the upper shelf region of ductile-brittle transition temperature, and in this temperature range, fracture toughness $J_{IC}$ values decreased with increasing temperature. The ductile brittle transition temperature of the material may be around $-30^{\circ}C$. In the region near $-30^{\circ}C$, the tendency of $J_{IC}$ to decrease with decreasing temperature was significant.

  • In this paper, we design a new automatic workpiece loading system for the loading and unloading of a workpiece for a CNC lathe. Conventional workpiece loading systems are bulky and require a large area when installed around a shelf. Therefore, an automatic loading system with small horizontal and vertical dimensions and a large loading capacity was designed. Structural analysis of the system was then carried out to assess the displacement and safety of the main components. Following this, the automatic loading system was manufactured according to the structural analysis results and conceptual design, and experiments characterizing the performance of the system were conducted. As a result, the automatic loading system was found to operate accurately and safely, meaning it can be used to load and unload workpieces for a CNC lathe.
