The dynamic properties of lead rubber bearings, which are used as isolator, are dependent on the main rubber's dynamic behaviors and nonlinear qualities. Rubber materials tend to undergo an aging process under the influence of mechanical or environmental factors, so they can end up inevitably facing damage. A main cause of such aging is known to be oxidization, which occurs through the heat of reaction at high temperatures. Accordingly, in this study an accelerated thermal aging test was carried out in order to compare the characteristic values of the bearings with each other before and after thermal aging occurs. As a result of this experiment, it was found that a thermal aging phenomenon could have an effect on shear stiffness, energy absorption, and equivalent damping coefficients. Furthermore, a decline in the dynamic properties of the lead rubber bearings by means of the thermal aging process was applied to an actual bridge and the effects of such thermal aging on the seismic performance of the bridge were also compared and analyzed based on numerical analysis. As a result of this analysis, it was found that the changes in the basic properties of the lead rubber bearings have a minor effect on the seismic performance of bridges.

The purpose of this study is to dye hanji/cotton fabrics using persimmon juice and to investigate the change in the hand fabrics. Using the Kawabata Evaluation System, we have examined the changes in the physical properties, primary hand value and total hand value. The dynamic characteristics of hanji/cotton fabrics have been explored by tensile, shear, bending, compression, surface properties, thickness and weight. As a result, it can be seen that the linearity of load-extension and tensile resilience are increased with the increase of the concentration and dyeing times of persimmon juice and tensile energy is decreased in the same condition. These behaviors are shown in the compression properties. Although the mechanism of persimmon juice dyeing has been widely discussed, it means that the fabrics dyed with persimmon juice become stiffened and the elasticity is increased with the introduction of persimmon on the fabrics studied. Bending rigidity and hysteresis of the bending moment are increased with the increase of the concentration and dyeing times of persimmon juice. Also, Geometrical roughness, expressed in SMD is increased with increasing the concentration and dyeing times of persimmon juice, compared with as-received. It indicates that these results are due to the geometric structure of hanji yarn and the introduction of persimmon juice on the fabrics studied. The fullness and softness with the soft feeing are increased a little due to the tannin component of persimmon juice introduced on the fiber surface.

In this study, we performed an investigation on the variations in the structural capacity of steel plate walls with various infill plate details. Five three-story plate walls with thin web plates were tested. Parameters for the test specimens were the connection details between the moment frame and infill plates, such as weld and bolt connections, the location and length of weld connection, and coupling wall. Regardless of the details of infilled steel plate, the steel plate wall specimens showed excellent initial stiffness, strength, and energy dissipation capacity. However, the wall with bolt-connected infill plates showed slightly low deformation capacity. This result showed that for workability and cost efficiency, various wall details can be used in practice without causing a significant decrease in the structural capacity of steel plate walls. A method for making projections on strength and energy dissipation capacity of steel plate wall specimens with various details was developed.

This study was carried out to elucidate the partial substitutability of SB latex with environmental-friendly coating binders for coated paper. Starch-based biobinder, ethylene vinyl acetate and acryl-based binder were evaluated for this purpose. Several combinations of above binders were applied to top layer coating, and properties of coating colors and printability were evaluated. When 20% and 30% of SB latex were substituted by acryl-based synthetic binder, ethylene vinyl acetate and biobinder, the brightness, whiteness and opacity of coated paper were similar to those obtained from SB latex. Ink set and stiffness of coated paper manufactured through 20% and 30% substitution of SB latex by biobinder and EVAc were improved, but dry- and wet-pick strength were decreased. The research works on the improvement of dry- and we-pick strength, mechanical stability and rheological properties at high shear condition should be continued for the commercial application of biobinder, EVAc and acryl-based binder.

This paper shows the feasibility of using carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite materials for manufacturing automotive coil springs. For achieving weight reduction by replacing steel with composite materials, it is essential to optimize the material parameters and design variables of the coil spring. First, the shear modulus of a CFRP beam model, which has $45^{\circ}$ ply angles for maximum torsional stiffness, was calculated and compared with the test results. The diameter of the composite spring was predicted to be 17.5 mm for ensuring a spring rate equal to that when using steel material. Finally, a finite element model of the composite coil spring with $45^{\circ}$ ply angles and 17.5 mm wire diameter was constructed and analyzed for obtaining the static spring rate, which was then compared with experimental results.
The variation of the electrical property of embankment material was analyzed from laboratory experiments and the result of field survey, in order to enhance the interpretation of electrical resistivity survey frequently used for safety assessment of embankment. At first, the kaolinite, showing similar physical property with core material of embankment, was used to examine the variation of the resistivity value according to degree of consolidation. The test showed that a drop of shear strength induces increase of resistivity value regardless of degree of water content. This result means that porous zones of weak core material in embankment may be appeared as highly resistive part in the electrical resistivity survey. This observation implies that it may fail to detect weak core material by electrical method, if we only try to and zones showing low resistivity value. And, we performed Standard Penetration Test (SPT) to analyze the correlation between electrical property and ground stiffness. Finally, a mechanism to describe the variation of electrical resistivity due to grouting effect was proposed and real field data were analyzed.

In the unsaturated soil, suction, the negative pore water pressure leads to increases of the yield stress and the plastic shear stiffness of the soil skeleton due to the growth in interparticle stress. Therefore, in this study, the stress-strain relationship based on cyclic elasto-plastic constitutive model extended for unsaturated soil considering the 1st and the 2nd yield functions was induced in order to account for these effects of suction under the dynamic loading condition such as the earthquake. Through the program code considering this relationship and the routine of the cyclic loading with the reversion of loading direction, the numerical simulation of the cyclic triaxial test under the unsaturated condition would be possible. It is expected that the results of this study possibly contribute to the accuracy improvement on the prediction of unsaturated soil behavior under the dynamic loading condition.

An electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) is a unique probe that does not require a couplant or gel and also can usually generate or detect an ultrasonic wave into specimens across a small gap. It, therefore can be applied in a noncontact mode with a high degree of reproducibility. Especially stiffness of composites depends on layup sequence of CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastics) laminates. It is very important to evaluate the layup errors in prepreg laminates. A nondestructive technique can therefore serve as a useful measurement for detecting layup errors. This shear wave for detecting the presence of the errors is very sensitive. A decomposition model has been used in the interpretation and prediction of test results. Test results have been com pared with model data. It is found that the high probability shows between tests and the model utilized in characterizing cured layups of the laminates. Also a C-scan method was used for detecting layup of the laminates because of extracting fiber orientation information from the ultrasonic reflection caused by structural imperfections in the laminates. Therefore, it was found that interface C-scan images show the fiber orientation information by using two-dimensional fast Fourier transform (2-D FFT).

Modern advanced-turboprop propellers are required to have high structural strength to cope with the thrust requirement at high speed. The high stiffness and strength carbon/epoxy composite material is used for the major structure and skin-spar-foam sandwich structural type is adopted for advantage in terms of the blade weight. As a design procedure for the present study, the structural design load is estimated through investigation on aerodynamic load and then flanges of spars from major bending loads and the skin from shear loads are sized using the netting rule and Rule of Mixture. In order to investigate the structural safety and stability, stress analysis is performed by finite element analysis code MSC. NASTRAN. It is found that current methodology of composite structure design is a valid method through the static structural test of prototype blade.
