For studying of coagulation and sedimentation in estuarine clay, we obtained several flow curves with various concentrations of sea water by using Coutte type rotational rheometer. The initial shear stress on high concentration of sea water was observed big, but after this, its value is decreasing with increasing shear rate. The maximum pick of shear stress is decreasing with the decreasing of concentration of sea water The trend is same totally above for viscosity. The sedimentation times with the concentration of sea water vary in $\infty$ ~ 5 minutes. The zeta potential is changed dramatically between 114 and 118 concentration of sea water. That is consistent with the sedimentation graph. From these results, the phenomena of coagulation and sedimentation can be explained with viscoelastic terms on structual formation among particles by the changes of surface potential affected from contacting sea water to dispersed particles.
Ohmic heating is a heating method based on the principle when an electrical current passes through food. Since this method is internal, electrical current damage occurred during heating treatment. The results of ohmic heated starch's external structure, X-ray diffraction, DSC analysis and RVA were differed from those of conventional heating at the same temperature. Several starches changed more rigid by structure re-aggregation. This change in starch was caused by change of physical, chemical, rheological property. The rheology of ohmic heated potato and corn starch of different heated methods were compared with chemically modified starch. After gelatinization, sample starch suspension (2%, 3%) measured flow curves by rheometer. Cross-linked chemically modified starch's shear stress was decreased with degree of substitution reversibly. Ohmic heated more dramatic, at $60^{\circ}C$. Potato starch's shear stress was less than commercial high cross-linked modified starch. Flow curves of potato starches measured at $4^{\circ}C$, $10^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$. Showed that Ohmic heated potato starch's shear stress ranging between $4^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ was narrower than modified starch. According to this study, ohmic heated potato starch can be used by decreasing viscosity agent like cross-linked modified starch.
In this study, a finite element model based on the SU/PG scheme was developed to solve shallow-water equations and the influences of parameters and internal boundary conditions on depth-averaged flow behavior were investigated. To analyze the effect of roughness coefficient and eddy viscosity on flow characteristics, the developed model was applied to rectangular meandering channel with two bends, and transverse velocities and water depth distributions were examined. As the roughness coefficient adjacent to wall increased, the velocities near the wall decreased, and the reduced velocities were compensated by the expanding mid-channel velocities. In addition, the flow characteristics around a circular cylinder were analyzed by varying the internal boundary conditions as free slip and no slip. The assignment of slip condition changed the velocity distribution on the cylinder surface and reduced the magnitude of the shear stress up to one third.
Bileaflet mechanical valves have the complications such as hemolysis and thromboembolism, leaflet damage, and leaflet break. These complications are related with the fluid velocity and shear stress characteristics of mechanical heart valves. The first aim of the current study is to introduce fluid-structure interaction method for calculation of unsteady and three-dimensional blood flow through bileaflet valve and leaflet behavior interacted with its flow, and to overcome the shortness of the previous studies, where the leaflet motion has been ignored or simplified, by using FSI method. A finite volume computational fluid dynamics code and a finite element structure dynamics code have been used concurrently to solve the flow and structure equations, respectively, to investigate the interaction between the blood flow and leaflet. As a result, it is observed that the leaflet is closing very slowly at the first stage of processing but it goes too fast at the last stage. And the results noted that the low pressure is formed behind leaflet to make the cavitation because of closing velocity three times faster than opening velocity. Also it is observed some fluttering phenomenon when the leaflet is completely opened. And the rebounce phenomenon due to the sudden pressure change of before and after the leaflet just before closing completely. The some of time-delay is presented between the inversion point of ventricle and aorta pressure and closing point of leaflet. The shear stress is bigger and the time of exposure is longer when the flow rate is maximum. So it is concluded that the distribution of shear stress at complete opening stage has big effect on the blood damage, and that the low-pressure region appeared behind leaflet at complete closing stage has also effect on the blood damage.

The present study has numerically predicted both the flow -induced and thermally-induced residual stresses and birefringence in injection o. injection/compression molded center -gated disks. Analysis system for entire molding process was developed based on an ap propriate physical modeling including a nonlinear viscoelastic fluid model, stress-optical law, a linear viscoelastic solid model, free volume theory for density relaxation phenomena and a photoviscoelasticity and so on. Part I presents physical modeling a nd typical numerical analysis results of residual stresses and birefringence in the injection molded center-gated disk. Thermal residual stress was found to be extensional near the center, compressive near the surface and tend to become toward tensional at the surface. A double-hump profile was obtained across the thickness in birefringence distribution: nonzero birefringence is found to be thermally induced, the outer peak is due to the shear flow and subsequent stress relaxation during the filling stage a nd the inner peak is due to the additional shear flow and stress relaxation during the packing stage. Predicted birefringence including both the flow -induced and thermally-induced one becomes quite similar to the experimental one.

The drag reduction is the phenomenon that occurs only when the shear stress from the wall of pipe is beyond the critical point. The drag reduction increase as the molecular weight, concentration of the polymer and Reynolds number increase, but it is limited by Virk's maximum drag reduction asymptote. Because of the strong shear force for the polymer on the turbulent flow, the molecular weight and the drag reduction do not decrease. Such mechanical degradation of the polymer occurs in all polymer solvent systems. This paper is to identify and develop high performance polymer additives for fluid transportations with the benefits of turbulent drag reduction. In addition, drag reduction in vertical flow by measuring the pressure drop and local void fraction on vertical-up flow of close system is evaluated.

The characteristics of mean velocity and turbulence have been analyzed in the circular open channel flow using PIV measurement data for a wide range of water depth. The measured data are fitted to a velocity distribution function over the whole depth of the open channel. Reynolds shear stress and mean velocity in wall unit are compared with the analytic models for fully-developed turbulent boundary layer. Both the mean velocity and Reynolds shear stress have different distributions from the two-dimensional boundary layer flow when the water depth increases over 50% since the influence of the side wall penetrates more deeply into the free surface. The cross-stream Reynolds normal stress also has considerably different distribution in view of its peak value and decreasing rate in the outer region whether the water depth is higher than 50% or not.
Recently in order to describe the complex rheological behavior of polymer melts with long side branches like low density polyethylene, new constitutive equations called the pom-pom equations have been derived by McLeish and Larson on the basis of the reptation dynamics with simplified branch structure taken into account. In this study mathematical stability analysis under short and high frequency wave disturbances has been performed for the simplified differential version of these constitutive equations. It is proved that they are globally Hadamard stable except for the case of maximum constant backbone stretch (λ = q) with arm withdrawal s$\_$c/ neglected, as long as the orientation tensor remains positive definite or the smooth strain history in the now is previously given. However this model is dissipative unstable, since the steady shear How curves exhibit non-monotonic dependence on shear rate. This type of instability corresponds to the nonlinear instability in simple shear flow under finite amplitude disturbances. Additionally in the flow regime of creep shear flow where the applied constant shear stress exceeds the maximum achievable value in the steady now curves, the constitutive equations will possibly violate the positive definiteness of the orientation tensor and thus become Hadamard unstable.

In this study, the three-dimensional blood flow within the sac of KTAH(Korean artificial heart) is simulated using fluid-structure interaction model. The numerical method employed in this study is the finite element commercial package ADINA. The thrombus formation is one of the most critical problems in KTAH. High fluid shear stress or stagnated flow are believed to be the main causes of these disastrous phenomenon. We solved the fluid-structure interaction between the 3D blood flow in the sac and the surrounding sac material. The sac material is assumed as linear elastic material and the blood as incompressible viscous fluid. Numerical solutions show that high shear stress region and stagnated flow are found near the upper part of the sac and near the comer of the outlet during diastole stage.

The present paper considers the method to estimate the bottom friction driven by waves and current on rough turbulent flow. Parameter adjusting technique is suggested for the computation of bed shear stress driven by uni-directional flow. and the value of parameter is determined by comparing the computational results against Bijker's laboratory data. For the computation of combined flow bottom shear stress, two methods are presented; one is the modified Bijker approach (BYO Model) and the other is the modified Fredsoe approach (FY Model). both of which are refined by the present writer. Both models are again refined in two aspects, and tested against the Bijker's laboratory data.
