Animation understanding and time-resolved analysis of the wake characteristic of 2-D sharp plane flows were executed by applying the multi-vision PIV to a sharp plane(three angle of attacks : $15^{\circ}, \; 30^{\circ}, \; 45^{\circ}$) submerged within a circulating water channel($Re = 2{\times}10^4$). The macroscopic shedding patterns were discussed in terms of instantaneous velocity, vorticity, velocity profile, kinetic energy, turbulent intensity, frequency analysis. Particularly, the time-averaged distribution of turbulent intensity in each experimental cases revealed separate island-like small regions magnitude of turbulent intensity was always strengthened.

Recently, the use of numerical simulation has been increased rapidly because of the development of high performance computer systems. The present study is aimed to investigate flow characteristics of a two-dimensional sharp plane. Unsteady calculation by FDM(Finite Difference Method) based upon SOLA scheme which was performed at $Re=2{\times}10^4$in viscous incompressible flow within a finite domain on the irregular grid formation. Total numbers of irregular grids are $8{\times}10^4$. The minimum grid size is 1/100 of the plane length L which is the representative length. The inclined angles of every objects are $15^{\circ}, \;30^{\circ}\;and\; 45^{\circ}.$ And, the edge angle of the plane is $30^{\circ}.$ This study discussed the flow characteristics in term of the turbulent intensity, vorticity and frequency analysis. Developed flows show that the periodic Karman vortices occur at the back of the plane.
We review the algebraic structure of $\mathbb{H}{\sharp}$ and show that $\mathbb{H}{\sharp}$ has a scalar product that allows as to identify it with semi Euclidean ${\mathbb{E}}^4_2$. We show that a pair q and p of unit split quaternions in $\mathbb{H}{\sharp}$ determines a rotation $R_{qp}:\mathbb{H}{\sharp}{\rightarrow}\mathbb{H}{\sharp}$. Moreover, we prove that $R_{qp}$ is a product of rotations in a pair of orthogonal planes in ${\mathbb{E}}^4_2$. To do that we call upon one tool from the theory of second ordinary differential equations.
In order to prevent the sharp edge during the side impact, a cause analysis and CAE based risk prediction were carried out in this study. It was found that sharp edge occurs mainly because of stiffness difference between the major parts and structural stress concentration. It could be improved by directly reinforcing the crack initiation region or by weakening the joints connecting the parts. The fracture criterion based on major in-plain strain was suggested and the risk prediction process for sharp edge prevention was established.
A complete finite element analysis method for discharge onset process, which is governed and coupled by charge transport equation and electric field equation, was presented. The charge transport equation of first order was transformed into a second-order one by utilizing the artificial diffusion scheme. The two second-order equations were analyzed by the finite element formulation which is well-developed for second-order ones. The Fowler-Nordheim injection boundary condition was adopted for charge transport equation. After verifying the numerical results by comparing to the analytic solutions using parallel plane electrodes with one carrier system, we extended the result to blade-plane electrodes in 2D xy geometry with three carriers system. Radius of the sharp tip was taken to be 50 ${\mu}m$. When this sharp geometry was solved by utilizing the space discretizing methods, the very sharp tip was found to cause a singularity in electric field and space charge distribution around the tip. To avoid these numerical difficulties in the FEM, finer meshes, a higher order shape function, and artificial diffusion scheme were employed.

The stress singularity of a sharp wedge contacting a half plane can be avoided by changing the wedge shape. Shape optimization is accomplished with the geometric strain method (GSM), an optimality criterion method. Several numerical examples are provided for different materials in the wedge and half plane to avoid stress singularity neal the sharp corner of the wedge. Optimum wedge shapes are obtained and critical corner angles are compared with the angles from analytical contact mechanics. Numerical results are well matched to analytical and experimental results. It is shown that shape optimization by the geometric strain method is a useful tool to reshape the wedge and to avoid a stress singulatiry. The method applies to more general geometries where the singular behavior would be difficult to avoid by classical means.
LED chips are produced by cutting the sapphire on which GaN is evaporated. To cut the sapphire wafer into each LED chip, at first the wafer is scribed by diamond tool. To get the sharp groove shape for the nice cutting plane it is important the diamond tool shape, load, etc when the wafer is scribed. Here we tried to simulate the scribing process and get the scribing condition to reduce the wear rate of diamond tool for the sharp groove shape.

In the ocean bubble layers play a significant role in the sound propagation as well as sound generation. Most of early works dealt with acoustic properties of the bubble layers with sharp flat boundaries. Bubble layers with sharp flat boundaries. Bubble layers with transition sublayers are more likely in the coean. In this paper a theory of sound propagation through plane bubble layers with transition sublayers at both borders was developed. It shows that the reflection and transmission coefficients depend on the thickness of transition sublayers. The theory with thicker transition sublayers shows weaker resonance properties of bubble layer. It gives better presentation for the peculiar behavior of the experimental data than that with sharp flat boundaries.
The paper aims at analyzing the stress distribution around an underground opening that is subjected to non-symmetrical surface loading with emphasis on opening shapes with sharp corners and the stress concentrations developed at these locations. The analysis is performed utilizing the BIE method coupled with the Neumann's series. In order to implement this approach, the special recurrent relations for half plane were proven and the modified Shanks transform was incorporated to accelerate the series convergence. To demonstrate the capability of the developed approach, a horseshoe shape opening with sharp corners was investigated and the location and magnitude of the maximum hoop stress was calculated. The dependence of the maximum hoop stress location on the parameters of the surface loading (degree of asymmetry, size of loaded area) and of the opening (the opening height) was studied. It was found that the absolute magnitude of the maximum hoop stress (for all possible surface loading locations) is developed at the roof points when the opening height/width ratio is relatively large or when the pressure loading area is relatively narrow (compared to the roof arch radius), and contrarily, when the opening height/width ratio is relatively small or when the surface pressure is applied to a relatively wide area, the absolute magnitude of the maximum hoop stress is developed at the bottom sharp corner points.

Electromagnetic penetration into an annular aperture in a thick conducting plane is investigated with the integral transform and eigen-function expansion method. The solution is analytic and is represented in rapidly-convergent series which is amenable to numerical analysis. Numerical computations shows that apertures with narrow annular gap have sharp transmit power peaks in frequency response.
