Effective Test and Evaluation Approaches for Reliable Defense Systems Development examined through Domestic Defense Cases (국내 사례로 살펴보는 국방체계 개발의 신뢰성을 높이기 위한 시험평가 방안)

  • This paper presents practical issues for test and evaluation(T&E) methods to develop defense systems. Our argument is motivated by several domestic defense cases and the cases lead us to discuss two main factors for reliable defense systems development: 1) statistical approaches and 2) technical schemes. Specifically, statistical approaches enable to provide credible interpretations about T&E results in the decision-making process. With practical T&E results of the “Red Shark” torpedo, we performed statistical hypothesis tests and suggest a minimum sample size to accept the hypothesis. Next, technical schemes have more direct effects on improving reliability of developed defense systems and we shortly introduce tools development for systems verification that is required to integrate several sub-systems, e.g., combat, sensor, weapon, and communication systems, within a defense system. We additionally summary some domain cases using modeling and simulation techniques for successful T&E. In closing, we expect that the paper shows empirical investigation and lessons learned with these two practical issues, which provides a guide those who desire to make decisions about reliable defense systems development.

Isoflavones Extracted from Sophorae fructus Upregulate IGF-1 and TGF-$\beta$ and Inhibit Osteoclastogenesis in Rat Born Marrow Cells

  • Isoflavones have been a central subject in research on the natural phytoestrogens found in Leguminosae. Their effects on bone formation and remodeling are important in that they can act like estrogen by binding on estrogen receptors on the target cell surface. We, therefore, believed that isoflavones may help in the treatment of patients with estrogen deficiency disease such as estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) for osteoporosis. As commonly known, osteoporosis is one of the hormonal deficiency diseases, especially in menopausal women. When estrogen is no longer produced in the body a remarkable bone remodeling process occurs, and the associated events are regulated by growth factors in the osteoblast lineage. In the present study, we investigated whether isoflavones (Isocal) extracted from Sophorae fructus affect the growth factors IGF-I and TGF-$\beta$ that have been known to be related with bone formation. In the study, we found that the active control (PIII) effectively enhanced the level of nitric oxide (NO) and growth factors, and thereby inhibited osteoclastogenesis. The most efficient concentration was $10^{-8}$% within five days, whereas the comparative control (soybean isoflavone) was not as effective even at a lower concentration. In conclusion, the products which contain enriched glucosidic isoflavone and nutrient supplements such as shark cartilage and calcium can be used for osteoporosis therapy by enhancing the production of IGF-I and TGF-$\beta$. Furthermore, the NO produced through endothelial constitutive NO synthase (ecNOS) may playa role in inhibiting bone reabsorption.

  • 조류는 계절별 기상 및 수질 조건에 따라 규조, 녹조, 남조의 발생 및 천이가 이루어지는데 최근 기후 변화로 인해 출연종 별 발생 및 천이의 시기 또한 빨라지고 있다. 이 중 남조류의 경우 초여름에 발생하여 급격한 증식으로 대발생되어 녹조현상을 야기하고 이는 해당 수역의 생태계 파괴, 그 이외에도 사회적, 경제적, 환경적인 측면에서 많은 문제를 유발한다. 하천·호소의 조류의 발생과 거동에 대한 이해와 효과적인 대응책 마련을 위하여 현상에 대한 모니터링이 선행되어야 하지만 기존 조사방식은 점, 선 단위의 간헐적 측정을 통해 진행되고 있어 많은 인력과 시간이 필요로 하고 있는 실태이다. 현재 이에 따른 문제 해결을 위한 하천·호소의 원격탐사 기법을 이용한 조류의 발생 및 거동에 대한 모니터링 연구가 많이 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 초분광 영상을 이용한 원격 탐사 모니터링을 위한 선행연구를 위해 400-1000 nm에서 NIR(visNIR)파장을 분석할 수 있는 초분광 카메라 CORNING사의 micro HSITM 410 shark와 영상 흔들림 보정을 위한 DJI사의 로닌-MX를, 이용하여 현재 녹조류, 남조류 5종의 배양액과 방사보정을 위해 99% 반사율의 반사판과 함께 촬영하여 영상을 수집하였다. 수집된 영상을 통하여 방사보정 및 해당 Base 제거를 통한 조류의 분광 정보 추출 과정을 통해 조류별 분광 정보를 추출, 분석하여 해당 조류의 분광특성을 파악하고 기초 라이브러리를 구축하여 제시함으로 추후 하천·호소에서의 초분광 영상 기반 원격탐사 모니터링에 적용하고자 한다.

  • 최근 국내에서는 이상기후변화로 인해 수환경 변화가 일어나고 있으며, 이로인해 하천이나 저수지에 조류의 과대성장이 빈번히 발생되고 있다. 조류의 과대성장으로 인해 조류가 생산하는 독성물질, 이취미 물질은 수질을 악화 및 생태계에 큰영향을 미치는 실정이다. 또한, 조류는 하천, 저수지에 넓은 분포로 발생하게 되며, 현재 조류 조사방법은 다양한 계측장비를 통해 조사를 진행하고 있으나, 조류를 직접 채취하여 검경하거나, 보트 또는 조사선에 센서를 부착하여 측정하기 때문에, 점 또는 선단위의 간혈적 조사가 진행된다. 따라 많은 인력과 시간이 소요된다. 국내에선 인력과 시간을 줄이기 위해 최근 위성영상과 드론을 활용한 조류 원격탐사 모니터링에 대한 연구가 많이 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 안동댐 인근 예안교에서 드론과 초분광센서를 이용하여 초분광데이터를 수집 및 조류 맵핑을 진행하였다. 사용된 드론은 DJI사의 RGB드론과 M-600Pro를 사용하였으며, 초분광 센서는 CORNING사의 microHSITM 410 SHARK를 이용하였으며, 파장 400-1000 nm에서 NIR(visNIR)파장을 분석할 수 있다. 드론에 짐벌을 장착하여 초분광센서를 수표면과 평행하게 두고 촬영 및 영상을 수집하였다. 방사보정을 하기위해 영상을 촬영 구간에 방사 보정용 반사천을 두고 동시간에 같이 촬영 하여 방사보정을 진행하였다. 본 연구에서는 초분광센서와 드론을 활용하여 조류 맵핑에 대한 연구를 하기위해 시료를 채취하여 검경결과와 비교분석을 하였으며, 초분광영상 분석을 통해 조류 최적밴드비를 산정하고 조류 맵핑을 진행하여 촬영구간에 대한 2차원 조류 맵핑 제시하여 하천에 적용하고자 한다.

A Study on the Dietary Attitude and Preference of Native Local Foods in Ulsan Area (울산지역 향토음식에 대한 식행동과 기호도에 관한 연구)

  • This study was performed by questionnaire to investigate the dietary attitude and preference of native local foods for Ulsan citizens. The subjects were consisted of 500 citizens living in Ulsan area. The results of the survey are summarized as follows: On frequency of eating of local foods, 'one time per year' scored high as 40.8%. 'Labor-intensive' scored high as 35.6% in cooking methods. 'Rarely' scored high as 43.2% in frequency of cooking at home. A criteria of selection of Ulsan local foods was 57.2% in taste. The recognition score of native local foods was 'healthful food' (3.96 points), 'should be handed down to next generation' (3.94 points), and 'a lot of natural food ingredients' (3.88 points) and 'nutritious food' (3.87 points) in the order. The preferred native local foods of Ulsan area was 'Ulsa pear' (3.97 points), 'Eonyang, Bonggye Hanoobulgogi' (3.86 pionts), 'Raw Fish', 'Haemuljeongol', ‘Gangodeungojjim', 'Suknamsa SanchaeBibimbab' 'Gangdon Natural Brown Seaweed' in that other. On the other hand, the preference for 'Myeoljang', 'Whale Meat', 'Oksamju', 'Meonggejeon', 'Jepyipjangajji' and 'Kimchigam' was very low. Males liked 'Whale Meat', 'Raw Fish', Oksamju' and 'Dombaegi(Shark Meat)', while females liked 'Gandong Naural Brown Seaweed'. The most effectual food for developing tourism merchandising of Ulsan local foods was 'Eonyang, Bonggye hanoobulgogi' and the next is 'Eonyang Dropwort', 'Gangdong Natural Brown Seaweed', 'Myeoljang', 'Ulsan Pear', and 'Oksamju' in the order.

An Analysis on the Characteristics and Compilation Purpose of Japanese Useful Fisheries Classification Table (「일본유용수산분류표」의 특징과 편찬 목적에 대한 분석)

  • The 'Japanese Useful Fisheries Classification Table', published in advance before the publication of the "Useful Fisheries of Japan", is the first data to classify and introduce fisheries animals and plants in a single table. Therefore, it had received public attention immediately. However, The academy of animal studies at that time quickly pointed out that this classification table was a mixture of traditional and modern classifications, and that there were too many errors. However, Yoshio Tanaka, who was in charge of revising Yamamoto Arikatana, that wrote the classification table, was not an adherent of traditional taxonomy, nor was he ignorant of modern taxonomy. Nevertheless, the classification table, which was quite different from the well-known zoological classification at that time, was prepared. For example, the top classifications of marine organism are not at the same level, but rather a mixture of phylum and class, while the water insect contains several phylums, including Arthropoda, Echinodermata, Mollusca, and Coelenterata. As such, the method of classification of animals in the classification table was hard to understand in the zoological academy at that time. The reason for this unusual taxonomy was that the classification table showed classification of useful fisheries products, not intended to convey academic classification. In other words, it is not for the purpose of academic classification of all fishery products, but for the purpose of presenting standards that can be easily understood by those engaged in the collection, manufacture, and aquaculture of fishery products. This principle of 'Useful Fisheries of Japan' is also ascertained in the "Fishing Methods of Japan" and "Fishery Products of Japan". Regarding the collection and processing of marine products, it could have shown how to catch whales, which are mammals, and how to dismantle whales and obtain oil and meat, according to academic classifications. However, the first appearances in the book include dried squid, abalone, shark fins, and sea cucumbers. In other words, the most important fishery products at that time are presented first. The contents of the classification table, which is considered somewhat bizarre, show where the purpose to compile Useful Fisheries of Japan.

Quality Characteristics of Smoked Dombaeki (Shark Meat) (돔배기(상어육)의 훈연처리에 따른 품질 특성에 관한 연구)

  • We explored the effects of curing and smoking conditions on the shelf life of Dombaeki (shark meat). Dombaeki cured for 12 h in an aqueous solution containing (per 100 ml) salt 5.6 g, sugar 14 g, and garlic powder 0.6 g, showed the best sensory quality among various samples cured for 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 or 24 hours. The optimum conditions for preparation of smoked Dombaeki (SD) were drying at $60^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, followed by cooking at $80^{\circ}C$ for 30 min and smoking at $65^{\circ}C$ for 40 min, as judged by sensory evaluation of taste, color, flavor, texture, and overall acceptability. The volatile basic nitrogen content of air- or vacuum-packed unsmoked Dombaeki (NSD) was above 20 mg% after storage for either 12 days or 5 weeks. However, the nitrogen contents of air- and vacuum-packed SD were less than 20 mg% after either 21 days or 10 weeks of storage at $10^{\circ}C$. The DPPH free radical-scavenging ability of SD (73.9%) was significantly higher than that of unsmoked meat (4.54%). The total polyphenol content of SD (745.6 g/g) was about 4-fold greater than that of unsmoked meat (179.5 g/g).The viable bacterial count of air- or vacuum-packed unsmoked meat was over $10^6\;CFU/g$ after storage for either 12 days or 5 weeks. However, air- or vacuum-packed SD had counts under $10^4\;CFU/g$ at all storage times tested. Changes in coliform bacterial levels paralleled those of total viable cells. The sensory quality (taste, color, flavor, appearance, texture, and overall acceptability) of SD was significantly better than that of NSD.

Effect of Chitosan-Ascorbate and Morea(roasted of oyster shell at $1300^{\circ}C$) on Growth of Contaminating Bacteria in Dombaeki(traditional shark dish) during Storage (돔배기의 저장 중 오염미생물의 생육에 미치는 키토산-아스코베이트 및 모려의 처리효과)

  • The effects of 0.01%(w/v) chitosan-ascorbate(CA) and 10 ppm morea on the number of total microbes, Escherichia coli levels, and growth of food poisoning bacteria in dombaeki during storage at $10^{\circ}C$ over 6 days were investigated. Total microbes in meat, cartilage, and skin of untreated samples increased by 4.24, 3.81, and 2.20 logs compared to the zero timepoint, respectively, but, in CA-treated samples, counts fell by 2.66, 2.37, and 1.24 logs. Total microbial levels in morea-treated meat, cartilage, and skin showed similar tendencies but the effects were slightly less than seen in CA-treated samples. E. coli numbers in CA-treated meat, cartilage, and skin stored for 6 days decreased by 1.69, 1.25, and 1.52 logs respectively, compared with control samples. Morea-treated samples showed similar falls, but the effects were again slightly less than seen after CA-treatment. Both Salmonella and Vibrio parahaemolyticus were detected in untreated meat stored for 3 or 6 days. Food poisoning bacteria were found in both untreated and morea-treated samples stored over 6 days. However, no such bacteria were detected in CA-treated samples. Also, CA-treated meat, cartilage, and skin showed low degrees of degeneration. Thus, CA treatment enhanced shelf-life and dombaeki quality by inhibiting microorganism growth and tissue breakdown during storage.

The survival rate of fish discarded from trawler (트롤 어선에서 어획후 투기된 어류의 생존율)

  • Experimental fishing was carried out to investigate the survival rate of fishes discarded after hauling from the trawl and to develop the fishing gear and method for fisheries management which can improve the survival rate of young fishes escaped from the trawl codend in offshore korean southern sea and off Cheju Island of Korea. The young fishes were bred in fish cage on the board to measure the sustainable survival time for fishes escaped from grid panel and codend. The obtained results are summarized as follows' 1. Japanese flying squid(Todarodes pacjficus), mitra squid(Loligo chinesis), hair-tail( Trichiurus lepturus), john dory(Zeus japonicus), spanish mackerel(Scomberomorus niphonius), redlip croaker (Pseudosciaena polyactis) and blackthroat seaperch(Doederliinia berycoides) were dead instantly after hauling. 2. Survival rate of tiger shark(Galeocerdo cuvier), conger eel (Conger myriaster), red skate (Dasyatis akajei), black scraper(Navodon modestus) and japanese fan lobster(Ibacus ciliatus) might be high after discarding because they survived for long hours in fish cage. 3. Blotched eelpout(Zoarces gili) escaped from the escapement device(grid) was dead within 6 hours in the water tank installed on the board but 97% of tiger shark and 72% of conger eel survived over 72 hours. 4. Red skate escaped from trawl codend was dead within 60 hours in the water tank installed on the board but sustainable survival time of 25% of octopus(Paroctopus dofleini) and 100% of black scraper was over 72 hours. 5. Compared with the survival rate of rosefish(Helicolenus higendorfi) escaped from the escapement device(grid) and trawl codend, all of the rosefish escaped from the grid was dead within 7.2 hours but 8.3% of the rosefish escaped from the codend survived over 72 hours. 6. In comparison with the survival rate of japanese fan lobster survived over 72 hours, survival rate of japanese fan lobster escaped the codend was much higher as 75% than 33% of japanese fan lobster escaped from the grid.

The Study on the Methylmercury Analysis and the Monitoring of Total Mercury and Methylmercury in Fish (어류 중 메틸수은 분석법 확립 및 모니터링)

  • Procedure for analysis of methylmercury in fish was developed, involving addition of HCl, extraction with toluene, and clean-up using L-cystein solution. Obtained extract is analyzed by gas chromatography with electron capture detector using Ulbon HR-Thermon-Hg column. Detection limit and recovery of the method were 0.005mg/kg (expressed as Hg), 98-107 (103%), respectively. Total mercury and methylmercury concentrations in 175 commercial fish samples ranged from [mean-max (mean), unit: mg/kg]: 0.014-1.200 (0.270) and 0.006-0.901 (0.168) in tuna-fish, 0.020-0.934 (0.323) and 0.012-0.553 (0.149) in martin-fish, 0.082-0.782 (0.391) and 0.040-0.436(0.201) in shark, 0,023-0.031 (0.026) and 0,013-0.018 (0.015) in salmon, 0.098-0.193 (0.133) and 0.031-0.015(0.090) in tilefish, and 0,031-0.214 (0.089) and 0.016-0.093 (0.042) in canned tuna respectively. No sample of analyzed fish exceeded 1.0mg/kg wet wt., limit for methylmercury established by Codex. In all species examined, estimated weekly intake was lower than Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intake recommended by the JECFA (the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives).
