  • Purpose - The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between firm's non financial performance and its shareholder return by analyzing PCA while focusing on the classifying all the variables into three categories such as financial, characteristics, and non financial factors of the firms. Design/methodology/approach - By exploring the pattern of self tender from the 801 firms in KOSPI while focusing on the objective of stock disposal, this paper analyzes the change of shareholder return of the firm. Findings - First, the higher major ownership, the lower self tender gets, whereby the higher ownership by foreigners, the ratio of self tender is higher. Secondly, cash dividend has not significant impact on the disposal of self stock, and the high ratio of ownership by foreigners leads to the high probability of retirement rather than the general disposal. In contrast, the major ownership has a negative impact on the general disposal as well as retirement. Thirdly, the score of non financial factors such as Environment(E), Social responsibility(S), and Governance(G) shows the high value in case of the firms with self tender. More specifically, the firms with retirement has the highest value of ESG while it has the lowest value in case of the firms with general disposal. Research implications or Originality - The retirement which means the active shareholder return is strongly affected by the non financial factors. Specifically, the probability of retirement increases in case of the firms with retirement, and even such a tendency is found to the case of the firms with general disposal.

  • This study examines the different roles of cash flow in assessing investment returns in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The analysis covers over 900 listed firms across Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand for the period post the Asian financial crisis of 2001-2017. Firm-level panel data analysis shows that cash flow factors are important in all contexts of cash return on assets, earnings quality and market value multiple across the region even after controlling for typical measures of profitability. The results suggest that firms should manage cash flow prudently in considerations of firm value from the shareholder's perspective, measured directly using stock return. Cash profitability on assets should become an important firm performance indicator, whilst higher cash component over reported earnings is preferred. The market also tends to respond favourably to cash flow yield as a price multiple in valuation, outpacing the role of earnings yield. Such findings are robust across the pre and post subprime crisis periods, across estimation methods pertaining to finance panel standard errors, as well as across static and dynamic considerations of returns. It is hence sensible to consider cash flow factors in the research pertaining to asset pricing and factor investing in the ASEAN region.

Under this condition, this study analyzes stock price reaction by event study to 197 cases of 81 KOSDAQ companies that allocated to third parties in increase of capital between the year of 2007 and 2009. And we find determinants of cumulative abnormal return by using multiple regression. Results of this research are as follows. First, in case of excess return of (-5, +5), it reveals positive excess return significantly at 1% significance level during 4 days before payment day(event day). But it reveals negative excess return significantly at 1% significance level during 5 days after payment day. Second, in case of excess return of (-40, +40), it reveals positive excess return significantly at 1% significance level during 40 days before payment day(event day). But it reveals negative excess return significantly at 1% significance level during 40 days after payment day. Third, in case of excess return of (0, 1 year), it reveals negative excess return significantly at 1% significance level during 1 year after payment day. Fourth, significant determinant of cumulative abnormal return to (-5, +5) was firm size with positive effect. Significant determinants of cumulative abnormal return to (-40, +40) were reserve ratio and debt ratio. Reserve ratio has positive effect But debt ratio has negative effect. Significant determinants of cumulative abnormal return to (0, 1 year) were firm size, debt ratio, reserve ratio. equity ratio to large shareholder. Firm size, debt ratio, equity ratio to large shareholder have negative effect. But reserve ratio has positive effect.

  • The purpose of this article is to analyze the relationship between corporate firm performance and large shareholder ownership. We use the individual firms listed in KOSDAQ and implement the ordinary least squares regression analysis. Our empirical analysis shows that the relationship between large shareholder ownership and market performance is not in accordance with the preceding studies supporting U type. We document, however, that the empirical analysis shows that the relationship between large shareholder ownership and accounting performance is similar to the reverse U type. A robustness test is implemented to generate a more acute analysis. The robustness test shows that the large shareholder's shareholding of 0-50% supports the interest convergence hypothesis; however, more than 50% of the shareholding shows that the large shareholder ownership is not significantly related to the accounting performance.

  • This study is to investigate the problem of credit rating by Korea Trade Insurance Corporation(KSURE) which evaluates overseas buyers in a state of capital impairment as G-grade regardless of the cause of capital impairment. This study classifies capital impairment into two types: deficit-type capital impairment due to accumulated operating losses and surplus-type capital impairment due to shareholder return policies such as dividends and treasury stock buybacks. It is proposed to improve the credit evaluation method on companies with surplus capital impairment from a formal review to a substantive review. This study is expected to improve credit rating of KSURE on overseas buyers for better support of trade credit insurance for exporters.

  • Purpose: This study is to investigate the effect of managerial ownership level in distribution and service companies on the stock price crash. The managerial ownership level affects the firm's information disclosure policy. If managers conceal or withholds business-related unfavorable factors over a long period, the firm's stock price is likely to plummet. In a similar vein, management's equity affects information opacity, and information asymmetry affects stock price collapse. Research design, data, and methodology: A regression analysis is conducted using the data on companies listed on the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) between 2012-2017 to examine the effect of the managerial ownership level on stock price crash risks. Results: Logistic and regression results indicate that the stock price crash risk was reduced as managerial ownership levels are increased. The managerial ownership level has a significant negative coefficient on stock price crash risk, negative conditional return skewness of firm-specific weekly return distribution, and asymmetric volatility between positive and negative price-to-earnings ratios. Conclusions: As the ownership and management align, the likeliness of withholding business-related information is reduced. This study's results imply that the stock price crash risk reduces as the managerial ownership level increases because shareholder and manager interests coincide, thereby reducing information asymmetry.

  • Successful Six Sigma methodology involves continual success of projects, each incrementally moving the organization closer to its strategic goals of shareholder return and customer satisfaction. However, Six Sigma methodology has some disadvantages in long-term technical strategy parts, systematic technology management techniques and concrete idea creativity methodology. To complement these Six Sigma problems, Triz technique is considered. Triz focuses on solving such problems efficiently, effectively, and creatively. The purpose of this paper is to improve the temperature inspection method of a refrigerator through the DAGEV(Define-Analyze- Generate-Evaluate-Verify) cycle of Triz.
