  • Matched field processing technique is performed by considering complex underwater environments. Specially, the performance of minimum variance processor is greatly degraded by eigenvalue problem. In this paper, we propose the minimum variance matched field processor using shaping matrix. This shaping matrix makes that the input covariance matrix is invertible and enhances the desired acoustic source component. It was proved effectively range/depth localization of the proposed method with simulated data and vertical array data collected by NATO SACLANT Center north of the island of Elba off the Italian west coast.

  • This study introduces an elastic parabolic cable element for initial shaping analysis of cable-stayed bridges. First, an elastic catenary cable theory is shortly summarized by deriving the compatibility condition and the tangent stiffness matrices of the elastic catenary cable element. Next, the force-deformation relations and the tangent stiffness matrices of the elastic parabolic cable elements are derived from the assumption that sag configuration under self-weights is small. In addition the equivalent cable tension is defined in the chord-wise direction. Finally, to confirm the accuracy of this element, initial shaping analysis of cable-stayed bridges under dead loads is executed using TCUD in which stay cables are modeled by an elastic parabolic cable and an elastic catenary cable element, respectively. Resultantly it turns that unstrained lengths of stay cables, the equivalent cable tensions, and maximum tensions by the parabolic cable element are nearly the same as those by the catenary cable elements.

  • Electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) is a non-invasive imaging reconstruction technique that aims at visualization of cross sectional permittivity distribution of dielectric object based on the measured capacitance. There are lots of iterative image reconstruction methods to accelerate convergence rate and enhance quality of reconstructed image, Among them iterative Landweber method is one of the widely used reconstruction algorithm in En. In this paper, modified generalized Landweber method is proposed to accelerate convergence rate. In doing so, acceleration term is considered to the generalized Landweber method with shaping matrix and an optimal step length is determined analytically. Extensive computer simulations are provided to illustrate the reconstruction performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • QFT is a very practical design technique that emphasizes the use of feedback for achieving the desired system performances in despite of plant uncertainties and disturbances. The loop shaping procedure of QFT is employed to design the robust controller, until the desired bounds are satisfied. This paper presents an optimization algorithm for designing PID controller using the loop shaping of QFT. The proposed method identifies the parameter vector of PID controller from a linear system that develops from rearranging the two dimensional system matrices and output vectors obtained from the QFT bounds. The feasibilities of the suggested algorithm are illustrated with a turbine speed control problem.

First, an elastic catenary cable theory is shortly summarized by deriving the compatibility condition and the tangent stiffness matrices of the elastic catenary cable element. Next, the force-deformation relations and the tangent stiffness matrices of the elastic parabolic cable elements are derived and discussed under the assumption that sag configuration under self-weights is small. In addition the equivalent cable tension is defined in the chord-wise direction. Finally, to demonstrate the accuracy of the elastic parabolic cable element, nonlinear relationships of nominal cable tension-chord length and nominal cable tension-tangential stiffness for a single element are presented and compared with results using an elastic catenary cable theory as the slope is varied.

  • An overview of various modes and tools of MPEG Surround is provided Because the binaural mode of MPEG Surround supports the virtual 5.1-channel playback based on HRTFs, it can be played via headphones and earphones for portable audio devices. MPEG Surround also supports the enhanced matrix mode which converts stereo signals to 5.1-channel signals without side information, the 3D stereo mode which deals with 3D-coded signals, the low power version which greatly reduces the computational load in the decoding process. Besides, MPEG Surround provides the arbitrary downmix gains (ADGs) tool which is applied to artistic downmix signals, the matrix compatibility tool which is applied to downmix signals by conventional matrix-based methods, the residual coding tool -which can be used at high bit rates, and the GES tool which is applied to specific sound such as applause. The listening test results by various companies and organizations are also presented for important modes and tools.

  • There are three kinds of algorithms(2-ARE, mu-synthesis, LMI) for controller design using closed-loop shaping method. This paper provides the summary of background theory of three algorithms and $H_{\infty}$ controller design results for spacecraft attitude control using the three controller design tools of Matlab$^{TM}$ Toolbox for comparison. As a result, it reveals that LMI design method is more reliable as well as easier than others for spacecraft attitude control design. Comparison results are as follow: 2-ARE method and LMI method provide almost same results in robust stability, robust performance and control authority level. But 2-ARE method is more sensitive than LMI method with respect to proper design of weighting functions: 2-ARE method is more difficult than LMI method in weighting function design. The design result of mu-synthesis method shows worse performance and requires bigger control authority than others.
