The Design & Manufacture and Characteristic Analysis of Eddy Current Sensor for Bolt Hole Defect Evaluation (볼트 홀 결함 평가용 와전류 센서 설계제작 및 특성분석)

  • This paper introduces the special eddy current sensor and its characteristic for bolt hole defect evaluation in gas turbine rotor. In the past, Fluorescent penetration inspection method was used for qualitative defect evaluation in gas turbine rotor bolt hole. This method can defect the bolt hole defect but can not evaluate the defect size. Nowadays, eddy current method is used quantitative defect evaluation due to advanced sensor design technology. And eddy current method is more time and cost saving than the old method. We developed bolt shape eddy current sensor for the rotor bolt hole defect detection and evaluation. The eddy current sensor moves to the bolt hole guided by screw nut and detects the defect on the bolt hole. The bolt hole mock-up and artificial defects were made and used for the signal detection & resolution analysis of eddy current sensor. The results show that signal detection capability is enough to detect 0.2 mm depth defect. And the resolution capability is enough to differentiate 02, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mm depth defect.

  • In this study attempted to prevent defects due to blow holes among defects of sand casting products. It was intended to reduce the defect rate by reducing the blow hole of the inner surface. Currently, expectations and requirements for the quality level of non-ferrous aluminum casting in the casting industry are increasing. In addition, the shape is complex and the shrinkage precision is required. Among them, the test prototype is expensive to manufacture the mold, and the production time is also long, and the product is manufactured by sand casting. At this time, the highest defect rates are defects caused by shrinkage defects, surface defects, and blow holes.. At this study, the manufacturing time was shortened by using the shape of the fluid movement path in advance. Also, it is possible to reduce defects due to blow holes.

  • The domestic CANDU nuclear power plants have been operated for a long time and various unforeseen spent fuel defects have been discovered. As the spent fuel defects are important factors in the safety of the nuclear power plant, a study on the analysis of the spent fuel defects to prevent their recurrence is necessary. However, in cases where the fuel rods inside the fuel assembly are defected, it is difficult to dismantle the fuel assembly owing to their welded structure and the facility conditions of the plant. Therefore, it is impossible to analyze the spent fuel defect because it is difficult to visually check the shape of the fuel defect. To resolve these problems, an analysis technology that can predict the number of defected fuel rods and defect size was developed. In this study, we developed a methodology for investigating the root cause of spent fuel defects using a database of the earlier fuel defects in the plants. It is anticipated that in the future this analysis technology will be applied when spent fuel defects occur.

  • We have developed an automated circuit defect inspection and repair method that can be used to improve the yield ratio of TFT-LCD. The method focuses on correcting resist patterns after the development process to ensure shape regularity. We built a prototype system and confirmed that the method is valid.

  • Pipe and Pressure Vessels that is used in power plant and chemical industry have many Internal Defects that is corrosion caused by the flow of fluid. These Internal Defects that have possibility of explosion are very dangerous because it can not see from the outside. This days many companys using NDT method to find an Internal Defect. Most of the NDT methods have limitations that are constraint of shape and materials. But Sheargoraphy have many advantages compared conventional NDT method. It has very fast measuring speed, non-destructive and non contacting measurement. As well as it hasn't constraint of shape and materials. As a paper on the analysis of measurement of error, the important factors were the Shearing Amount and pressure, and discovered measurement of the Internal Defect of the object by using shearography. The optimal Shearing Amount and pressure was discovered and utilized.

  • Most structure engineers give the casting components over-estimated factor of safety without any reasonable foundation due to the worries about the unavoidable defects such as shrinkages and porosity in castings; the engineers have little knowledge on the relation between the defect and structural behavior. And the workers in casting field also do not know how to control the defects by manufacturing; they do not know to where the defects move or until how size they reduce the defects. In this study, shrinkage defect was scanned by industrial computerized tomography instrument (CT), and subsequently was modeled to a spheroid primitive for structural analysis. Using these simplified models of shrinkage, we observed the effects of the defect on the results of the structural analysis. A commercial structural analysis code was used to do the analysis works. A Study on the Shape Selection of Mechanical Fastening for the Repair of Fighter Wing (전투기 날개 수리를 위한 기계적 체결의 형상 선정에 관한 연구)

  • A study on optimal shape selection of a mechanical fastening for the repair of crack defect of ROK Air Force F-5 fighter wing was conducted. The crack defect occurred in the spar of the wing, and the technical manual does not specify the repair method. However, ROK Air Force decided to develop a repair technology for this defect in consideration of various logistic conditions. Three repair shapes for the proper repair were devised and the finite element analysis was performed to examine the structural safety of these three connection members. As a result of the structural safety review, two connection members except one were structurally safe with safety margins over zero because the calculated stress values were at or below the yield strength level. Therefore, two connection members were determined to be able to use for repair under the condition that the aircraft operated within the design limit load. The results of this study would be very useful if the same defect occurs in long-term aircraft operated by the ROK Air Force.

A Study on Surface Growth Direction and Particle Shape According to the Amount of Oxygen and Deposition Parameters

  • A zinc oxide thin film doped with aluminum was deposited by RF sputtering. The deposition temperature of the sputter chamber was kept constant at $350^{\circ}C$, the power supplied to the chamber was 75 W, the oxygen flow rate was changed to 10 sccm and 20 sccm, and the thin film deposition time was changed to 120 and 180 minutes. The structures of the deposited zinc oxide thin films were analyzed by van der Waals method using an X-ray diffractometer. As a result of X-ray diffraction, the amount of oxygen supplied to the zinc oxide thin film increased, and the surface growth of the (002), (400), (110), and (103) planes showed a change with increasing deposition time. Moreover, as the amount of oxygen supplied to the zinc oxide thin film increased, their shape was observed to be coarse, and the thin film' s particles shape was correlated with the oxygen chemical defect introduced.

  • Internal defects in the glass, like-as micro-voids, micro-cracks, or inclusions, easily cause the failure when the glass is exposed to the shock or the thermal variation. In order to produce the highly reliable glass product, the precision inspection of the defect in the glass is required. For this purpose, this paper proposes a machine vision technique based on the auto-focusing method, which searches the defect and measures the location under the fact that the edge image of defect must be the most clear when the focal plane of CCD camera is coincided with the defect. As for the search index, the gradient indicator is presented. The basic principles are verified through the simulations for the computer-generated defect images, where the affects of defect shape, gray level of background, and the brightness of the defect image are also analyzed. Finally, experimental results for actual glass specimens are shown to confirm the applicability of this method to the actual field.

Orbital Wall Reconstruction by Copying a Template (defect model) from the Facial CT in Blow-out Fracture (얼굴뼈 CT 계측 모형을 이용한 안와벽골절의 재건)

  • Purpose: Recently, orbital wall fracture is common injuries in the face. Facial CT is essential for the accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment to reconstruct of the orbital wall. The objective of this study was to report the method for accurate measurement of area and shape of the bony defect in the blow-out fractures using facial CT in prior to surgery. Methods: The authors experienced 46 cases of orbital wall fractures and examined for diplopia, sensory disturbance in the area of distribution of the infraorbital nerve, and enophthalmos in the preoperation and followed 1 months after surgery, from August 2007 to May 2008. Bony defect was predicted by measuring continuous defect size from 3 mm interval facial CT. Copying from the defect model (template), we reconstructed orbital wall with resorbable sheet (Inion $CPS^{(R)}$ Inion Oy, Tampere, Finland). Results: One months after surgery using this method, 26 (100%) of the 26 patients improved in the diplopia and sensory disturbance in the area of distribution of the infraorbital nerve. Also 8 (72.7%) of the 11 patients had enophthalmos took favorable turn. Conclusion: This accurate and time-saving method is practicable for determining the location, shape and size of the bony defect. Using this method, we can reconstruct orbital wall fracture fastly and precisely.
