  • Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of machines are gaining importance in the industry because of the need to increase reliability and to decrease possible loss of production due to machine breakdown. By comparing the vibration signals of a machine running in normal and faulty conditions, detection of faults like mass unbalance, shaft misalignment and bearing defects is possible. This paper presents a novel approach for applying the fault diagnosis of rotating machinery. To detect multiple faults in rotating machinery, a feature selection method and support vector machine (SVM) based multi-class classifier are constructed and used in the faults diagnosis. The results in experiments prove that fault types can be diagnosed by the above method.

  • Previous experimental results show that the magnetostrictive transducer has the peculiar characteristic with relation to their reversible magnetization and its practical usage will be hindered by this phenomena. In this paper, the idea of anhysteretization is adopted in order to solve this problem. The experimental results reveal that the anhysteretization can get rid of the extraordinary phenomena which are occurred by the change of biasing magnetic field. The effects of two important parameters, which are the amplitude and the decaying time of this process, on the anhysteretization are investigated experimentally. Finally the best operating condition is proposed in order to maximize the sensitivity under the anhysteretization.

  • In this paper, the finite element modeling of the RK4 rotor kit system (RK4) and then transient analysis, and was compared with the actual experimental results. RK4 manufactured by General Electric for the purpose of education and research. It is modeled by using the ANSYS finite element analysis program commercially available. Considering the rotor abnormal conditions(disc unbalance and shaft rubbing) and the vibration response of the analytical model were compared with experimental results.

  • This paper focused on the dynamic behavior of camshaft in a direct acting type valve train system. To investigate camshaft behavior, transient vibration analysis is performed by using the transfer matrix method. The camshaft is treated as a lumped mass system supported by spring and damper, From the presented analytical model, we could predict dynamic behavior of camshaft, shaft locus within bearing and bearing load. The presented model and results will be very helpful to design the optimal camshaft and valve train system.

  • The mathematical model of the gear reductioner which consists which consists of the geared rotor-bearing system containing case is developed, assuming as the lumped parameter system. Constraints for vibration suppresion as well as strength of gear teeth, and shaft and kinematic conditions in gear pairs are considered. To find the design parameters satisfing the proposed constraints, a direct search method modified by the technique of Taguchi's experimental scheduling is used. One and two stepped gear reductioners are designed so that the criticl speeds due to the gear transmission error are moved out of the operating speed range.

  • In order to meet the growing demands for higher storage density as well as lower noise level, the spindles In hard disk drives are to be supported by hydrodynamic bearings in place of conventional ones. However, the existing models are inappropriate to apply to accurate Prediction or vibration characteristics because the Inn spindle tends to take quite a complex shape to secure the performance of the new type bearings. In this context, this paper treats analysis of free and forced vibrations of such-designed HDD spindles based on more sophisticated models and validation by means of experiments. Remarkably, to this end each component in the system is modeled as elastic adopting the finite element method.

  • This study analyzes the results with the simulation of heat transfer, structural stress, fatigue and vibration on main parts of engine. The maximum temperature is shown by $300.73^{\circ}C$ on the upper part of piston with the heat transfer. Maximum total deformation or equivalent stress is shown by 65.31mm or 21364MPa respectively at the upper plane of piston with the structural analysis inclusive of heat transfer. The minimum life is shown by the cycle less than $10^7$ at the part of crankshaft with the fatigue analysis. The frequency with the maximum amplitude of deformation is shown by 14Hz. Maximum total deformation or equivalent stress is shown respectively by 93.99mm on the upper plane of piston or 42625MPa at the part connected with crack shaft and connecting rod at 14Hz. The durability of engine design can be verified by using the analysed result of this study.

  • This paper shows the methods about an improvement of the sound quality, which is improvement for automobil market recently. Especially, the rumble noise in the passenger compartment makes driver uncomfortable. For an improvement of the rumble noise, in this paper, the increase of the number of balance weight of the crank shaft(from 4 to 8), the vibration constrainer of cylinder block and the flexible flywheel were applied to power plant. Among those kinds of applications, the application of the flexible flywheel to power plant makes not only the vibration of the engine mount boss reduce most effectly but also the interior noise. It also improves the sound quality and the rumble noise disappears in the passenger compartment.

  • This study was conducted to detect faults in a gearbox comprised of gears, bearings and shafts. The envelope analysis was used as a method of detection, which could detect breakage and pitting of gears and bearings, and misalignment of shafts effectively. Vibration measured at the increaser was analyzed to characterize the faults. When the increaser has a defect, peaks with a constant period appear in the time history of vibration and its harmonic components also in the envelope spectrum. The envelope analysis showed that a crack in the stepped output shaft caused the increaser to generate the abnormal peaks.

  • Magnetic flywheel system utilizes a magnetic bearing, which is able to support the shaft without mechanical contacts, and also it is able to control rotational vibration. Magnetic flywheel system is composed of position sensors, a digital controller, actuating amplifiers, an electromagnet and a flywheel. This work applies the neuro-fuzzy control algorithm to control the vibration of a magnetic flywheel system. It proposes the design skill of an optimal controller when the system has structured uncertainty and unstructured uncertainty, i.e. it has a difficulty in extracting the exact mathematical model. Inhibitory action of vibration was verified at the specified rotating speed. Unbalance response, a serious problem in rotating machinery, is improved by using a magnetic bearing with neuro-fuzzy algorithm.
