The purpose of this study is to design and the analyze the stress of composited shaft which is wound by filament winding method. The composites shaft has high strength and reduction in weight compared to metal shaft. The classical laminate plate theory(CLT) was used fro analysis the stress, and for structure design. In order to replace metal shaft by composites shaft, the diameter of shaft was determined to $\phi$ 40. The ration of diameter was determined to 0.4 for torsional moment with CLT. In this result of analyzing the stress, composites shaft was safe $30^{\circ}~60^{\circ}$C of winding angle, and was fractured on $90^{\circ}$.

An axle drive shaft with double joint shaft, cross kit and yoke has an important role by transferring power and changing steering angle between axle and wheel in power train system. It has been used widely in the heavy machinery requiring a high reliability in the power train system. At fatigue failures of the axle drive shaft with the long span, a relatively high stress concentration at a snap ring groove on the drive shaft brings to significant fatigue damages under repeated loading condition. As Peterson's suggestions on this study, a relief groove in the vicinity of the snap ring groove is applied by decreasing the stress concentration and improving the fatigue life of axle drive shaft. By using FEM analysis, the decreasing effect of the stress concentration and extended fatigue life are due to the change of design parameters related with size and location of the relief groove. The relief groove with the design parameters such as d/b=2.0 and r/h=1.2 enables to decrease the stress concentration of 22.3% and increase the fatigue life more than 3 times by comparing with no relief groove application.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of torque variation on stress distributions in A-IMS module with both side tubular shaft yoke by numerically. In order to achieve this, the torque value was increased from 10Nm to 40Nm, and the results of this work were confirmed in terms of Von-mises Stress and the displacement characteristics. As the torque in module assembly was increased, the stress in tubular shaft york and splined shaft york was increased linearly. The indentation due to the steel ball was occurred in over $40N{\cdot}m$ torque which is over the yield strength condition. The largest displacement occurred in the tubular shaft yoke 1, however, it does not exceed the yield strength and is supposed to be restored due to the elasticity. Therefore, it was concluded that there is no problem for the manufacturing of A-IMS with both side tubular shaft yoke.

To investigate the behavior of air-shaft and existing tunnel by excavating the small-diameter shaft into the existing tunnel, prototype air-shaft was constructed and analyzed in this study. Geotechnical characterization was conducted by boring and rock cores obtained were tested in the laboratory. Field monitoring including radial and tangential stresses and displacements was conducted with the 3-dimensional numerical analysis of prototype air-shaft. Results of field monitoring were compared with the numerical results. The results showed that maximum displacement of 2.11mm and maximum tangential stress of 54.0 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ were obtained during shaft excavation near the right shoulder of the existing tunnel. The comparison of these field measurements with 3-dimensional numerical analysis showed that much more higher stress was measured during excavation compared to the numerical results even though the trends of stress and displacement were similar.

The objective of the present paper is to evaluate the effect of the evolution of contact surface profile caused by fretting wear on fatigue life of press-fitted shaft by means of an analytical method based on experimental data. A finite element analysis was performed to analyze the stress states of press-fitted shaft, considering the worn contact profiles of shaft. The fatigue lives of the press-fitted shaft reflecting the evolution of contact stress induced by fretting wear were evaluated by stress-life approach using fatigue notch factor. It is found that the stress concentration of contact edge in press-fitted shaft decreases rapidly at the initial stage of total fatigue life, and its location shifts from the contact edge to the inside with increasing number of fatigue cycles. Thus the change of crack nucleation position in press-fitted shaft is mainly caused by the stress change of contact edge due to the evolution of contact surface profile by fretting wear. Furthermore, the estimated fatigue lives by stress-life approach at the end of running-in period of the fretting wear process corresponded well to the experimental results. It is thus suggested that the effect of fretting wear on fatigue life in press fits is strongly related to the evolution of surface profile at the initial stage of total fatigue life.

In the shrink or press fitted shaft such as railway axle, fretting can occur by cyclic stress and micro-slippage due to local movement between the shaft and the hub. When the fretting occurs in the press fitted shaft, the fatigue strength remarkably decreases compared with that of without fretting. In this paper, the analysis of contact stresses in a press fitted shaft in contact with a hub was conducted by finite element method and the micro-slip according to the bending load was analyzed. It is found that the largest stress concentration and maximum slip amplitude of shrink fitted shaft are found at the edge of the interface and the distribution of contact stresses at the contact edge has largely influenced and coefficient of friction.

Torsional interaction between electrical network phenomena and turbine-generator shaft cause torsional stress on turbine-generator shaft and torsional fatigue fracture on vulnerable component, but the prediction of the torsional stress is difficult because the torsional stress is occurred instantly and randomly. Therefore continuous monitoring of the torsional stress on turbine-generator shaft is necessary to predict the torsional fatigue, but installing the sensors on the surface of the shaft directly to monitor the stress is impossible practically. In this study torsional vibration was measured using magnetic sensor at a point of turbine-generator rotor kit, the torsional stress of whole train of rotor kit was calculated using rotor kit's stress model and the calculated results were verified in comparison with the measured results using strain gauge at several point of turbine-generator rotor kit. It is expected that these experiment results will be used effectively to calculate the torsional stress of whole train of turbine-generator rotor in power plants.

Induction hardening has been used to improve torsional strength and characteristics of wear for axle shaft which is a part of automobile to transmit driving torque from differential to wheel. After rapidly heating and cooling process of induction hardening, the shaft has residual stress and material properties change which affect allowable transmit torque. The objective of this study is to predict the distribution of residual stress and estimate the torsional strength of induction hardened axle shafts which has been residual stress using finite element analysis considered thermo mechanical behavior of material and experiments. Results indicate that the torsional strength of axle shaft depends on the surface hardening depth and distribution of residual stress.
This paper an application method of crankshaft of four cylinder internal combustion engine for studying stress analysis of the shaft. For simple analysis, uniform sections of journal, pin and arm parts were assumed. Transfer Metrix Method was used, considering branched part and coordinate transformation part. Bending, twisting moment and stresses of crank shaft were investigated.
