  • In this paper, a graphics system supporting PHIGS and PHIGS+ is suggested and its hardware structure and software are described. The developed graphics system is a multi-processing system that uses 6 i860 RISC CPU's and supports PHIGS and PHIGS+ language in a hardware level. The developed system under tested is able to draw 160, 000 3-D polygones in one second when each polygon has 100 pixels and is shaded with Gouraud shading.

Taxonomy of Cerianthus filiformis (Ceriantharia, Anthozoa) and Its Phoronid Associate, Phoronis australis in Korea

  • The tube anemone, Cerianthus filiformis Carlgren, was collected from nine localities in the Yellow Sea and the Korea Strait (the South Sea). Populations at different localities showed color variations in tentacles from pale brown to violet. This species is redescribed here because it shows the color variation and the association with the phoronid, Phoronis australis, which was newly recorded from Korean waters. The phoronid has black to purple tentacles shaded with the same color as the cerianthid's tube for mimicking.

차광조건에서 더덕의 광합성속도에 미치는 주요 요인 (Main Factors affecting on Photosynthesis under shading condition of Codonopsis lanceolata Trautv.)

  • 차광처리의 약광상태에서 더덕의 광합성속도에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인을 구명하여 물질생산에 관한 생리생태적 반응을 위한 기초 자료로 삼고자 본 실험을 수행하였던 바, 몇 가지 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 차광처리한 더덕의 엽위별 광합성속도는 처리 후 44일째에 뚜렷히 증가하였으며, 그 증가 정도는 상위엽보다 하위엽에서 현저하였다. 2. 광합성속도와 비엽면적은 부(負)의 1차회귀직선 상태를 보여 차광하에서 잎이 얇아지는 경향이었으며 광합성속도와 기공전도도, 기공전도도와 SPAD는 모두 정(正)의 상관관계가 인정되었다. 3. 광합성속도를 종속변수로 하고 비엽면적(SLA), SPAD, 기공전도도, 수분퍼텐셜을 독립변수로 하여 중회귀분석을 한 결과, 4요인에 대해서는 중사관계수가 $r=0.848^{**}$로 나타났으며 기공전도도의 표준편회귀계수가 가장 높아 광합성속도에 가장 영향이 컸으며 그 다음으로 SLA, SPAD 및 수분퍼텐셜의 순이었다.

옥상녹화용 식생매트에 적합한 토양과 토심 선정 (Soil Mixtures and Depths Selection for Mat-Type Rooftop Greening)

  • The purpose of this study is to select suitable planting base for the mat-type rooftop greening in order to popularize rooftop greening system easily. The experiment was conducted from 2004 June to 2005 May under several conditions; 4 soil depths under mats(2cm, 5cm, 10cm, 15cm), two soil mixtures(natural soil 80%+leaf mold 20%, artificial soil) and two light conditions(full sun place, 20% shaded place). In this experiment, 3 types of mats were used ; the herbaceous plants mat(11 plants inclusive of Lotus corniculatus L., Silene armeria L.), the lawn mat with Festica arundinacea and Sedum mat with Sedum kamtschaticum, Sedum sarmentosum, Sedum oryzifolium, Sedum middendorffianum. The result is as follows; in the mat-type rooftop greening, the herbaceous plants mat, lawn mat and sedum mat are the similar number of plant and effect of greening on soil depth 2cm, 5cm and 10cm, 15cm. So suitable soil depth of rooftop greening is 10cm for the load and economical factor. Thus the mat-type rooftop greening possible planting base depth of all 13cm as soil depth 10cm and mat depth 3cm. As soil mixtures, the number and growth of plants were better mat and 'natural soil 80% +leaf mold 20%' than mat and artificial soil. In herbaceous plants mat, Silene armeria L., Dianthus chinensis, Centaurea cyanus L., Lotus corniculatus L. are survival in full sun place and Silene armeria L., Dianthus chinensis, Centaurea cyanus L. are survival in 20% shaded place. In conclusion, selection of suitable soil mixtures and plants is possible extensive management rooftop greening with effect of continuous greening. The mat-type rooftop greening are lightweight and simple preparation without management and can popularize readily.

Vetch Effects for the Low-input No-till Direct-Seeding Rice-Vetch Cropping System

  • A field experiment was carried out to observe the weed control effects of vetch and to evaluate vetch characteristics on clay loam soil in no-till direct-sown rice-vetch cropping systems. The effects of weed control, forage productivity, and N content of vetch plants were investigated. With the progress of plant growth, density of Chinese milk vetch (Astragalus sinicus L.) gradually decreased, but densities of foxtail and other weeds decreased steeply due to the depression by the over-shaded vetch canopy in a no-till direct-sown rice-vetch cropping paddy field. The vetch density in tillage systems was lower than in notillage cropping systems. Lower vetch density occurred with an increase in foxtail density and other weeds. Weed control effect increased by the progress of vetch growth, which indicated that the vetch canopy over-shaded the weeds. Vetch straw was degraded rapidly submergence after with water at the time of wet sowing of rice. Early harvesting of vetch seed resulted in lower seed germination. To acquire enough seedlings without re-sowing, the harvesting of seed should be delayed at least 28 days after the flowering stage in order to ensure the vetch population is sustainable in a no-till direct-sown rice-vetch cropping system. In order to improve the survival of vetch plants, vetch seeds should germinate from the heading .stage to before the full-ripening stage of rice plants. To enhance the percent of over-wintering survival, vetch seeds should germinate no later than the end of October in southern Korea. The dry weight of vetch plants increased with the progress of vetch growth until the flowering stage but N content decreased for 30 days from before the flowering stage (2.9%) until the ripening stage (1.8%). We concluded that Chinese milk vetch could have an effect on weed control before the flowering stage, sustainability without re-sowing of seed annually, and effective green manure for rice pre-crop in no-till direct-sown rice-vetch relay cropping systems.

Isolation and Characterization of Purple Non-Sulfur Bacteria, Afifella marina, Producing Large Amount of Carotenoids from Mangrove Microhabitats

  • This study determined the effect of light intensity and photoperiod on the dry cell weight and total amount of carotenoids in four isolates of purple non-sulfur bacteria obtained from shaded and exposed microhabitats of a mangrove ecosystem in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. The initial isolation of the bacteria was carried out using synthetic 112 medium under anaerobic conditions (2.5 klx) at $30{\pm}2^{\circ}C$. On the basis of colony appearance, cell morphology, gram staining, motility test, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing analyses, all four bacteria were identified as Afifella marina. One of the bacterial isolates, designated as Af. marina strain ME, which was extracted from an exposed mud habitat within the mangrove ecosystem, showed the highest yield in dry cell weight ($4.32{\pm}0.03g/l$) as well as total carotenoids ($0.783{\pm}0.002mg/g$ dry cell weight). These values were significantly higher than those for dry cell weight ($3.77{\pm}0.02g/l$) and total carotenoid content ($0.706{\pm}0.008mg/g$) produced by the isolates from shaded habitats. Further analysis of the effect of 10 levels of light intensity on the growth characteristics of Af. marina strain ME showed that the optimum production of dry cell weight and total carotenoids was achieved at different light intensities and incubation periods. The bacterium produced the highest dry cell weight of 4.98 g/l at 3 klx in 72 h incubation, but the carotenoid production of 0.783 mg/g was achieved at 2.5 klx in 48 h incubation. Subsequent analysis of the effect of photoperiod on the production of dry cell weight and total carotenoids at optimum light intensities (3 and 2.5 klx, respectively) revealed that 18 and 24 h were the optimum photoperiods for the production of dry cell weight and total carotenoids, respectively. The unique growth characteristics of the Af. marina strain ME can be exploited for biotechnology applications.

항공기 시각 탐지 감소 위장기술 고찰 (A Review of Aircraft Camouflage Techniques to Reduce Visual Detection)

  • 본 논문에서는 군용 항공기의 시각 탐지(visual detection)를 지연시키는 위장기술에 대하여 조사하였다. 위장(camouflage)이란 관찰자에게 드러나 보이지 않도록 어떤 물체를 거짓으로 꾸미는 것으로 정의할 수 있다. 그러나 군사적 관점에서의 위장은 완전히 사라지게 하는 것이라기보다는 관찰자의 탐지시간을 연장하거나 탐지가능성(detectability)을 낮추는데 목적이 있다. 기본적으로 항공기 위장은 항공기 위치 탐지를 지연시킬 뿐만 아니라, 관측자에게 항공기의 속도와 고도, 진행방향에 대한 혼란을 유발하여야 한다. 따라서 저(低)탐지기술 또는 위장기술은 군용 항공기의 생존성 향상에 많은 영향을 미치므로 많은 연구가 지속적으로 진행되었다. 근접 지원 항공기 및 제공 전투기의 경우는 다색(multi-tone) 위장패턴과 반음영(counter-shaded) 위장패턴이 일반적으로 적용되고 있다. 아울러, 단색(mono-tone) 위장패턴 역시 색상(hue)과 명도(brightness)가 적절히 조절 및 조합되었을 때 위장효과가 큰 것으로 나타났다. 항공기의 위장 성능 향상을 위한 능동 시각 위장 기술(active camouflage techniques)에 관한 연구도 진행되었다. 특히, 발광 반사율이 높은 발광 장치를 사용하는 Counter-illumination 기술은 항공기 표면과 배경 하늘의 명도차를 최소화하여 위장 효과를 향상시켰다. 이와 같은 능동 시각 위장 기술은 시각 탐지에 비교적 취약한 저고도 무인기의 생존성 향상에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

선박 수중 3D 입체 지도 소프트웨어 개발 (Development of 3D-Map Software for Ship Hull in Underwater)

  • 본 논문에서는 수중에서의 물체위치추적 소프트웨어와 수중선저 입체지도 생성 소프트웨어를 개발하였다. 선저청소로봇을 위한 소프트웨어로써 선저 청소로봇의 위치를 추적하고 음파통신의 음영지역을 발견함으로써 센서의 정위 구현을 목표로 하였다. 수중에서 로봇의 위치를 추적하기 위하여 개발된 소프트웨어는 수중의 초음파통신에 변수로 작용하는 파도의 고저와 세기를 적용하였다. 선(lines)들을 이용하여 그려진 선박의 도면을 스캔하여 OpenGL을 이용하여 입체지도를 형성하는 소프트웨어를 개발하였다. 이는 청소로봇이 비가시적인 수중 선저에서의 위치파악이 용이하며, 선저의 굴곡으로 인한 초음파통신 음영지역을 쉽게 발견함으로써 그에 따른 센서의 정위를 구현하여 원활한 통신 상태를 유지하는데 활용될 수 있다.
