  • Most education materials on sexuality developed in the past 10 years have not been thoroughly evaluated. This study provides results from a content analysis of 5 education materials for primary, middle and high school student. The results of this study were as follows: The Analysis Framework was developed to measure content in the education materials. It was organized into six domains. They are "Human Development", "Relationship", "Personal Skills", "Sexual Behavior", "Sexual Health", "Society and Culture". Each was associated topics and age appropriate developmental guides. The standard for analysis was the developmental guide suggested by the analysis framework. Each education material was assessed for developemtal guidance and its appropriateness for primary, middle and high school students. The total number of "being" responses to each developmental guidance equaled the score the material earned. These scores then were judged as to how well each education materials was comprehensive. 3 of 5 education materials were addressed as less than half the developmental guidline. Certain education materials were less comprehensive than others. I want to know 'Sexuality' covered the fewest developmental guidliness (34.6%). Interstingly, certain domains received much more coverage across all education materials than others. Most education materials provided instruction concerning "Human Development" (62.6%), "Sexual Health" (61.0%). However, topics such as "Personal Skills" (16.2%), "Relationship" (44.1%), "Sexual Behavior" (46.8%), "Society and Culture" (48.6%) were rarely addressed. Three topic, "negotiation", "sexual fantasy", "sexual dysfunction", were never addressed by most of the materials. Because several of the education material contained gender and sexual orientation biases. Certain topics such as "sexual identity and orientation" and "Gender role" were not adequately addressed by most of the material. Unfortunately, the overall findings of this study revealed that most of the education materials were considered insufficient for students. Because this study focused on whether or not the education materials addressed the developmental guidlines, further research is recommended to evaluate and addressed each developmental guidline.

  • The objective of this study is to stress the importance of sexuality education at school, to define its goals and to discuss ways on how to reinvigorate sexuality education. The negative conditions for adolescent sexual issues are now being expanded into all areas of Korean society. In particular, they should be regarded as one of serious social issues because of their adverse influences on adolescent groups. Various reports on juvenile sexual delinquencies have expressed serious concern over reckless and impulsive juvenile sexual deviations because they are closely related to the confusion of the youth in their sexual values and their common sexual deviations. Thus, for the youth who have attracted serious public concern, it is most important to have sound sexual awareness and attitude for the development of their healthy personality. In general, sexuality education should be conducted under individual responsibility of various levels of schools, families and communities. However, the role of schools where sexuality education should be conducted with concrete goals, that is, to interpret physical and psychological developments of youth in terms of education and teach them on the systematic goals of sexuality education, this role of schools is the most important than anything else in conducting sexuality education for youth.

Specifically, sexual experiences were assigned as dependent variable, multi-cultural background as independent variable, and fathers' education and sex education as moderating variable. Effects of independent and moderating variables were examined using SPSS 20.0 to perform GLM (General Linear Model). As a result, a main effect of multi-cultural background was verified along with the regulation effects of fathers' education and sex education. Specifically, multi-cultural adolescents had more sexual experiences than general adolescents and the effects of fathers' education and sex education were more significant with multi-cultural adolescents than those with general adolescents. • The aim of this study was to assess adolescents' sexuality and to gather student opinions on current school-based sex education in South Korea. A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted in Seoul, Incheon, and Kyunggi Province to assess the status and needs of high school sexuality education. Survey data was obtained from 1,130 senior high school students. The rates of sexual intercourse for boys and girls were 33.1% and 13.2% respectively. Boys were more likely to be sexually involved (p = .000) and experienced earlier at first sexual intercourse than girls (p = .006). Among students who had sexual intercourse, only 20.3% (21.1% of boys and 19.1% of girls) used contraceptives at first sexual intercourse. The proportion of respondents who had had sexual intercourse was higher among those with poor self-perceived academic performance (p = .000). The proportion was also higher among those with a boy or girl friend (p = .000). Other risk-taking behaviors such as smoking and drinking were associated with sexual activity (p = .000). This study found that most students were not satisfied with sex education because of teachers' lack of information and skills in delivering it. Most teachers providing sex education were not qualified and/or trained. They should receive adequate training and guidelines for the training. Training should also give teachers time to practice and become comfortable in delivering it.

  • Purpose: This study investigated sexual knowledge, its related factors, and the needs of sex education among elementary, middle, and high school students in order to develop a sex education program. Method: The participants comprised 721 students in grades 5 through 12, from Seoul and the Kyeonggi-do area, in South Korea. Data was collected from the end of August through the end of September 2014, using an anonymous self-administered questionnaire. SPSS Statistics 21.0 was used for the descriptive analysis, chi-square, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regressions. Results: Higher-grade students had a higher level of sexual knowledge than lower-grade students, but the overall level of sexual knowledge was low. Multivariate analysis showed that gender, grade, school record, and experiences of sex education from family and school were significant predictors of sexual knowledge among adolescents. Coping skills related to sexual crisis situations was the most wanted content of sex education. Conclusion: The results of this study suggested that it is important to develop a sex education program that considers the needs of sex education among adolescents. Also, it is important to periodically perform a survey to identify the need of sex education among elementary, middle, and high school students.
