This study suggests systematic procedures to improve safety policies on prevention of industrial accidents associated with industrial machines and devices. Specifically, new method of cause analysis of industrial accidents associated with industrial machines and devices is suggested and the related accident data are re-analyzed. Effectiveness of direct safety regulations such as safety certification, self-declaration of conformity, safety device regulation and safety inspection of industrial machines and devices are also analyzed. Based on those analysis results, transition from the current user-oriented safety device regulation to more balanced direct regulations on both manufacturer and user is suggested. Together with severity and frequency of industrial accidents, unit severity and unit frequency need to be taken into account to further assess the risk associated with a particular industrial machine or device. Balance between safety regulations will be realized by proper adjustment of lists of safety certification and inspection, and certification and inspection standards. This will also guarantee the maximum benefit over cost in such safety regulations.

Any enterprises cannot be free from service failure because of service attribute. Thus, the effort to recover from service failure properly has an important meaning. This study emphasizes on the need of effort of service recovery and distinguishes the operant situation of service failure into severity and controllability. At this moment in time, this study wants to verify the role of the effect of justice awareness on trust and satisfaction and adjustment role of employees' authenticity. An object of his study was 206 people who complained about service and this study analyzed their questionnaires by using SPSS, AMOS. To sum up, First, this study result shows that the seriousness of service failure has a negative effect on justice and only controllability has a negative effect on justice. Second, this study result shows that justice awareness has a positive effect on trust and satisfaction and that recovered trust has a positive effect on satisfaction. Third, authenticity has regulation effect on the structural relationship of severity, controllability, trust and satisfaction. Based on such result, this study presented suggestive point and suggested future study.

In 2006, the effect of soil pH adjustment on control of common scab of potato caused by Streptomyces spp. was evaluated in the field. Soil with an original pH 5.7 was treated with sulfur of 42 kg/10a and calcium hydroxide of 81.6 kg/10a and 184.5 kg/10a to adjust pH 5.0, 6.0 and 6.5, respectively. Additionally, the effect of gypsum (522 kg/10a) on soil pH and disease severity was examined. The soil pH of sulfur treatment plot was continuously declined from 5.13 at tuber initiation time to 5.01 at harvest. The disease severity of sulfur treatment plot was relatively low (22.8%) and the marketable yield of that was high (90.5%). By contrast, the soil pHs treated with calcium hydroxide (81.6 kg/10a and 184.5 kg/10a) were increased (pH 6.06 and 6.49, respectively) at harvest. In addition, calcium hydroxide treatment plots showed higher disease severities (51.0% and 61.1%), and lower marketable yields (55.7% and 37.0%). Meanwhile, the soil pH of gypsum treatment plot was not changed until harvest, and the disease severity and the marketable yield were not significantly different from those of control. The effect of crop rotation was also evaluated with four crops such as welsh onion, soybean, corn and Chinese cabbage. These crops were planted in the infested field from 2005 to 2007, and potatoes were planted in the same field in 2008. The disease severities of potatoes produced after rotations with welsh onion, soybean, corn and Chinese cabbage for 3 years were 13.1%, 16.7%, 28.9% and 30.2%, respectively. However, the disease severity of 73.1% was shown in continuous cropping of potato for 3 years. In addition, similar effects were exhibited in the marketable yield. These results demonstrate that the adjustment of soil pH and crop rotation might be very useful tools to control common scab of potato.

This study aims to design a Severity-Adjusted LOS(Length of Stay) Model in order to efficiently manage LOS of AMI(Acute Myocardial Infarction) patients. We designed a Severity-Adjusted LOS Model with using data-mining methods(multiple regression analysis, decision trees, and neural network) which covered 6,074 AMI patients who showed the diagnosis of I21 from 2004-2009 Korean National Hospital Discharge in-depth Injury Survey. A decision tree model was chosen for the final model that produced superior results. This study discovered that the execution of CABG, status at discharge(alive or dead), comorbidity index, etc. were major factors affecting a Sevirity-Adjustment of LOS of AMI patients. The difference between real LOS and adjusted LOS resulted from hospital location and bed size. The efficient management of LOS of AMI patients requires that we need to perform various activities after identifying differentiating factors. These factors can be specified by applying each hospital's data into this newly designed Severity-Adjusted LOS Model.

An AQL type variables sampling system with switching rules is proposed. Comparative studies of existing variables sampling standards - MIL-STD-414, ANSI Z1.9, ISO 3951, and BS 6002 - are made, and simulation studies on switching procedures are conducted. Based on comparative and simulation studies, a variables sampling standard for Korean industry is proposed. The master sampling tables of the proposed standard are taken from the variables standard ANSI Z 1. 9 and the switching rules are matched to the attributes standard KS A 3109 to enable us to move between the proposed variables standard and KS A 3109. Composite OC and ASN curves of the proposed standard are calculated for selected combinations of lot sizes and AQL's and they are compared with those of ANSI Z1.9.
This study intend to provide basic evidence needed to improve the life satisfaction of disabled children and youth by analyzing factors to influence on their life satisfaction. To accomplish this study's goal, raw data of Survey of Disabled People in 2014 conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare was utilized for multiple regression analysis to identify determining factors among family relation satisfaction, domestic violence, type of household, economical conditions, family relationship satisfaction, subjective health status, severity of disability, experience of discrimination, satisfaction on number of friends and school adjustment on 197 disabled children's life satisfaction. Results of the analysis are as follows. Domestic violence, family relationship satisfaction, subjective health status, and satisfaction on number of friends are influencing factors on life satisfaction of disabled children's and youth students. This results shows that strengthening family structure and function, expanding all family members participating program, implementing sociability improvement program and promoting health condition are needed to heighten the life satisfaction of students with disabilities.
This study was performed to know the relationship between neurologic soft signs (NSS) and clinical variables such as psychopathology. history of illness, and premorbid social adjustment in patients with schizophrenia. The authors evaluated NSS in 31 patients with schizophrenia using the structured tool for measuring neurologic abnormalities, Neurological Evaluation Scale- Korean Version(NES-K). Relationships between NSS and clinical variables such as duration of illness, intensity of precipitating stressors, duration of outpatient treatment, schooling, peer relationship, total duration of unemployment, total days of psychiatric admission, age, total days of being medicated, age at the first psychiatric admission, frequency of admissions, content of treatment, social adjustment, and severity of symptoms were analyzed. Differences between paranoid and non-paranoid schizophrenics were examined. In addition, Differences between patients with schizophrenia who have predominant positive symptoms and who have predominant negative symptoms were examined too. Total scores of NES-K were correlated with lower schooling (${\gamma}$=0.44, p<0.01). Scores of motor coordination subcategory were correlated with poor peer relationship(${\gamma}$=0.67, p<0.001). Other clinical variables were not correlated with any scores of NES-K. Paranoid and non-paranoid schizophrenics were not different in scores of NES-K. Also positive and negative schizophrenics were not different in scores of NES-K. Most clinical variables except schooling and peer relationship were not related with NSS. This results indicated that the meaning of these signs was not fully be understood. Introduction of the new classification concepts such as deficit or non-deficit syndrome will be helpful to elucidate the meaning of NSS in patients with schizophrenia.
Objectives: Late-onset schizophrenia (LOS, age at first onset ≥40 years) is characterized by including predominance of women, better premorbid social adjustment and lower severity of positive/negative symptoms. However, few studies have been conducted on LOS, especially in Asian countries. This study aimed to examine the clinical features of LOS in comparison with early-onset schizophrenia (EOS). Methods: By retrospectively reviewing medical records, we assessed demographic data and clinical features of 76 LOS (20 males) and 357 EOS (144 males) who admitted to the psychiatric ward of a general hospital. Results: The mean ages of onset were 47.3±5.1 (LOS) and 25.7±6.5 (EOS) years. There were significantly more women in LOS (73.7%) than EOS (59.6%). Significantly more LOS patients had a marital (88.2% vs. 25.8%) and employment history (28.9% vs. 13.1%) than EOS. Patients with LOS had fewer negative (14.3±9.0 vs. 19.9±9.3), general psychopathology score (36.9±11.1 vs. 42.3±13.9) than EOS patients. Conclusion: In line with previous studies, this study demonstrated that LOS patients have better premorbid social adjustment. Our finding also replicates previous findings that LOS patients differ from EOS in predominance of women and relative lack of negative symptoms. These results suggest that LOS may be a distinct subtype of schizophrenia.
Objectives: To develop a model that predicts a death probability of acute myocardial infarction(AMI) patient, and to evaluate a performance of hospital services using the developed model. Methods: Medical records of 861 AMI patients in 7 general hospitals during 1996 and 1997 were reviewed by two trained nurses. Variables studied were risk factors which were measured in terms of severity measures. A risk model was developed by using the logistic regression, and its performance was evaluated using cross-validation and bootstrap techniques. The statistical prediction capability of the model was assessed by using c-statistic, $R^2$ as well as Hosmer-Lemeshow statistic. The model performance was also evaluated using severity-adjusted mortalities of hospitals. Results: Variables included in the model building are age, sex, ejection fraction, systolic BP, congestive heart failure at admission, cardiac arrest, EKG ischemia, arrhythmia, left anterior descending artery occlusion, verbal response within 48 hours after admission, acute neurological change within 48 hours after admission, and 3 interaction terms. The c statistics and $R^2$ were 0.887 and 0.2676. The Hosmer-Lemeshow statistic was 6.3355 (p-value=0.6067). Among 7 hospitals evaluated by the model, two hospitals showed significantly higher mortality rates, while other two hospitals had significantly lower mortality rates, than the average mortality rate of all hospitals. The remaining hospitals did not show any significant difference. Conclusion: The comparison of the qualities of hospital service using risk-adjusted mortality rates indicated significant difference among them. We therefore conclude that risk-adjusted mortality rate of AMI patients can be used as an indicator for evaluating hospital performance in Korea.

Several municipal seismic vulnerability investigations have been identified pounding of adjacent structures as one of the main hazards due to the constrained separation distance between adjacent buildings. Consequently, an assessment of the seismic pounding risk of buildings is superficial in future adjustment of design code provisions for buildings. The seismic lateral oscillation of adjacent buildings with eccentric alignment is partly restrained, and therefore a torsional response demand is induced in the building under earthquake excitation due to eccentric pounding. In this paper, the influence of the eccentric seismic pounding on the design demands for adjacent symmetric buildings with eccentric alignment is presented. A mathematical simulation is formulated to evaluate the eccentric pounding effects on the seismic design demands of adjacent buildings, where the seismic response analysis of adjacent buildings in series during collisions is investigated for various design parameters that include number of stories; in-plan alignment configurations, and then compared with that for no-pounding case. According to the herein outcomes, the effects of seismic pounding severity is mainly depending on characteristics of vibrations of the adjacent buildings and on the characteristics of input ground motions as well. The position of the building wherever exterior or interior alignment also, influences the seismic pounding severity as the effect of exposed direction from one or two sides. The response of acceleration and the shear force demands appear to be greater in case of adjacent buildings as seismic pounding at different levels of stories, than that in case of no-pounding buildings. The results confirm that torsional oscillations due to eccentric pounding play a significant role in the overall pounding-involved response of symmetric buildings under earthquake excitation due to horizontal eccentric alignment.
