There are a lot of difference between the surface settlement and the differential settlement measured at the Busan New Port, where the dredged and reclaimed clay layer exists and below the clay is originally thickly distributed. To find the cause and solution of this, the actual conditions of each differential settlement used for the soft ground improvement, characteristics, installation method, measurement frequency, measurement data management, and data analysis of each type were considered. In the deep soft ground improvement work where large deformation occurs, the bending deformation of the screw-type differential settlement gauge is less than that of other types of measuring instruments, so there is less risk of loss, and the reliability of data is relatively high as the instruments are installed by drilling for each stratum. Since the greater the amount of high-precision settlement measurement data, the higher the settlement analysis precision. It is necessary to manage with higher criteria than the measurement frequency suggested in the standard specification. For the data management of the differential settlement gauge, it is desirable to create graphs of the settlement and embankment height of the relevant section over time, such as surface, differential, and settlement of pore water pressure gauge for each point. In the case of multi-layered ground with different compression characteristics, it is more appropriate to perform settlement analysis by calculating the consolidation characteristics of each stratum using a differential settlement data.

This paper proposes a village level settlement environment diagnostic indices in rural areas which can apply to analyze various conditions at village level. A living space in rural areas has been changed with a diverse aspect according to living infrastructure, industrial structure, accessibility to neighbor city and so on. This indicators considered these mega-regionalization of economy and lifestyle in rural areas. The indicators consists of basic indices for all types villages and convenience service indices for center villages and the other neighbor ones classified by a functionality of their convenience facilities. As the results of delphi expert survey and a field validation, rural village settlement environment diagnostic indicators were selected 3 types, 15 domains, 24 subdomains and 61 items. And these indicators weight were determinted by AHP method. These developed indicators were used to diagnosis settlement conditions of 31 villages, located on county of Yeongdong. to validate a applicability and feasibility.
This paper presents a ground surface settlement prediction method for shield tunneling in cohesive soils. In order to develop the method, a parametric study on shield tunneling was performed by using a threetimensional elasto-plastic finite element analysis, which can simulate the construction procedure. By using the results of the finite element analysis, the ground movement mechanism was investigated and a base which relates the ground surface settlement and iuluencing factors was formed. The data base was then used to formulate semi -empirical equations for both surface settlement ratio above tunnel face and imflection point by means of a regression analysis. Furthermore, a prediction method for transverse and longitudinal surface settlement profiles was suggested by using the leveloped equations in conjunction with the normal probability curve. Effectiveness of the developed method was illustrated by comparing settlement profiles obtained by using the developed method with the results of finite element analysis and measured data. Based on the comparison, it was concluded that the developed method can be effectively rosed for practical applications at least within the conditions investigated.

In performing the reliability analysis for predicting the settlement with time of alluvial clay layer at Kobe airport, the uncertainties of geotechnical properties were examined based on the stochastic and probabilistic theory. By using Terzaghi's consolidation theory as the objective function, the failure probability was normalized based on AFOSM method. As the result of reliability analysis, the occurrence probabilities for the cases of the target settlement of ${\pm}10%,\;{\pm}25%$ of the total settlement from the deterministic analysis were 30~50%, 60%~90%, respectively. Considering that the variation coefficients of input variable are almost similar as those of past researches, the acceptable error range of the total settlement would be expected in the range of 10% of the predicted total settlement. As the result of sensitivity analysis, the factors which affect significantly on the settlement analysis were the uncertainties of the compression coefficient Cc, the pre-consolidation stress Pc, and the prediction model employed. Accordingly, it is very important for the reliable prediction with high reliability to obtain reliable soil properties such as Cc and Pc by performing laboratory tests in which the in-situ stress and strain conditions are properly simulated.
The surface settlement of the back ground of a braced wall due to the ground excavation has the great influence on the safety of the surrounding area. But it is not easy to predict the settlement of the surrounding area due to proud excavation. Estimation of the settlement of the surface ground induced by the deformation of the braced wall is performed by FEM and empirical method (Peck, Clough etc). In this research, surface settlement of the back ground braced wall depending on the joint dips in rocks during excavating the composit ground was measured at the large scale model test (standard: $0.3m{\times}0.3m{\times}0.5m$). The scale of model test was 1/14.5 and the ground was excavated in ten steps. Earth pressure on the braced wall and ground surface settlement on the back ground of a braced wall were investigated. The surface settlement during the excavation depended on the joint dips in rocks on of the ratio of rock layer. Maximum earth pressure and maximum surface settlement were masured at the same excavation step. In accordance with the increase of the rock layer dips and rock layer ratio, the ground surface settlement increased. The maximum ground surface settlement was 17 times larger at 60 degree joint dips in rocks than that of the horizontal ground conditions. And the position of the maximum surface settlement by empirical method was calculated at the point, which was 17%~33% of excavation depth. In accordance with the increase of the rock layer dips and rock layer ratio, the ground maximum surface settlement increased. The ground surface settlement of composite ground is smaller than that of the empirical.

In this study, the physical and dynamic characteristics of soil were analyzed by selecting 3 sections as research subjects among road and structure construction sections in the construction site of the Gwangyang ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ industry area, and conducted consolidation analysis and bearing capacity assessments through Midas-GTS according to the construction conditions of the structures and section conditions of reinforcement using stabilized soil. The effects of improving the settlement and bearing capacity according to the improved effects of the stability and sections of reinforcement using stabilized soil in applying the reinforcement method using stabilized soil were analyzed as a solution for improving the settlement and bearing capacity of soft clay for constructing roads and structures. The improvement effects of the settlement and bearing capacity were outstanding when the reinforcement method using stabilized soil to the soft clay was applied. After applying the reinforcement method using stabilized soil, the holdback effect of the consolidation settlement was excellent by decreasing the volume of the consolidation settlement from a minimum of 53% to a maximum of 82%. When the width of the reinforcement using stabilized soil was twice the width of the constructed structure, it was found that the holdback effect of the consolidation settlement ranged from 1% to 7% through the width of reinforcement using stabilized soil. In addition, when applying reinforcement more than 6m in width and 1m in depth using stabilized soil, it was found that the increase in the allowable bearing capacity was 2.3 to 3.3 times more than that before applying the reinforcement, which suggests that the increase in bearing capacity by applying the reinforcement method using stabilized soil was significant.
The combined effects of water temperature and salinity on the settlement rate and density (spats/$cm^2$) of Crassostrea gigas pediveliger larvae were studied under the hatchery conditions. Four water temperatures (20.0, 23.0, 26.0 and $29.0^{\circ}C$) were tested at three salinities (20.0, 30.0 and 40.0). The optimum water temperature by salinity conditions were $29.0^{\circ}C$ and 20.0, 30.0 which significantly (P < 0.05) the highest mean (${\pm}S.D$) larval settlement rate of $43.1{\pm}0.1%$, $42.1{\pm}0.1%$, respectively. But the combination of water temperatures and salinities for settlement density was not effected, but each factor as water temperature ($29.0^{\circ}C$), salinity (40.0) was shown significantly high and low settlement density, respectively (P < 0.05). The statistics result of settlement density frequency was appeared: mode ($1.2-2.3spats/cm^2$), Mean ($1.9-2.4spats/cm^2$), Range ($3.0-5.8spats/cm^2$) and the lowest variance was obtained 0.4 at water temperature $20.0^{\circ}C$ by salinity 30.0, but $29.0^{\circ}C$ by 20.0 was the highest (1.1). The best condition at this results for the larvae setting under the artificial seed collection of C. gigas was $29.0^{\circ}C$ and 20.0-30.0.

A settlement prediction method based on shear wave velocity measurements and soil nonlinearity was recently developed and verified by means of centrifuge tests. However, the method was only applicable to heavily overconsolidated soil deposits under enlarged yield surfaces. In this study, the settlement evaluation method was refined to consider the stress history of the sublayer, based on an overconsolidation ratio evaluation technique, and thereby incorporate irrecoverable plastic deformation in the settlement calculation. A relationship between the small-strain shear modulus and overconsolidation ratio, which can be determined from laboratory tests, was adopted to describe the stress history of the subsurface. Based on the overconsolidation ratio determined, the value of an empirical coefficient that reflects the effect of plastic deformation over the elastic region is determined by comparing the overconsolidation ratio with the stress increment transmitted by the surface design load. The refined method that incorporate this empirical coefficient was successfully validated by means of centrifuge tests, even under normally consolidated loading conditions.
This thesis is a historical research about the Foreign Settlement at Mokpo as the fourth among the Open Ports which express the historical characters of Korean Modern, as a city which did not exist before the Korean Modern. So I analyzed positively the process of establishment and the process of urban form during the period which contained the characters of Concession, from 1897 to 1910. Even though the urban basic form of the Foreign Settlement at Mokpo was planned by Korean Goverment, it's townscape was changed to Japanese style by Japanese since Mokpo port was opened. Because it had settled by Japanese residents which had majority. But I found that the urban form was not composed by the Modern urban planning theory or method, but by the existing conditions such as topography and roads. The center in the settlement had shifted from the front region of Japan Consulate to the East region which was in the vicinty of Korean village. And also former internal oriented urban form had changed to the relevant composition with Korean village. All the changes in the Foreign Settlement at Mokpo was made by the Japanese which had majority, and it is a good example which expresses Korean Modern history.
To test the effect of various pile tip shape series of model scale loading tests were carried out on test piles with special pile tips. Special pile tips were made using the 3D printer and were attached to the bottom end of the test pile for loading tests. The pile tips were made to have 30°, 45°, 60° inclined tips, as well as a rounded tip. The main objective of the test was to observe the effect of various pile tip shapes on settlement and penetrability of the pile. Moreover, a numerical model simulating the pile loading test carried out in this study was established and verified based on the loading test results. From this, the stress concentration around the pile tip was investigated. This will allow us to analyze the decrease of stress concentration around the pile tip which is the main cause of the pile tip damage during pile installation. However, modifying the pile tip shape will eventually increase the settlement of the pile. By estimating the degree of increase in pile settlement, the viability and the efficiency of the pile shape modification was judged. In addition, case studies on the effect of different pile tip shape and ground conditions on pile settlement and stress dispersion was conducted.
