The electro-hydraulic training device (TP511) provided by Festo Didactic are widely used, but teaching materials do not include mathematical modeling. Thus, there is a limit for full-scale learning about the electro-hydraulic servo system by using this equipment. In this study, for the purpose of improving students' understanding of the classical control and modern control Festo's electro-hydraulic servo training device (TP511) was mathematically modeled and parameter values were calculated by examining the characteristics of each component. And P, PI, PD, and PID controllers highly used in the industrial field, were designed by using the root locus method to achieve the optimal gains and used for simulation and experiments using the Festo's electro-hydraulic servo training apparatus. The validity of the derived mathematical model and the calculated parameter values were verified through simulation and experiment. It was found that the p control can achieve the control target more effectively than the pid control for Festo's electro-hydraulic servo training system by using the root locus method.
The control performance of hydraulic systems is basically influenced by the performance of electrohydraulic servo valve incorporated in a hydraulic control system. In this study, a control design was proposed to improve the control performance of a servo valve with a non-contact eddy current type position sensor. A mathematical model for the valve was obtained through an experimental identification process. A PI-D control together with a feedforward (FF) control was applied to the valve. To further improve the dynamic response of the servo valve, an input shaping filter (ISF) was incorporated into the valve control system. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control system was verified experimentally.
A servo actuator with a valve using MR (Magneto-Rheological) fluid is proposed for fluid control systems. The MR fluid is well known as a functional fluid whose apparent viscosity is controlled by the applied magnetic field strength. The pressure in the MR cylinder can be controlled by the applied magnetic field strength. Good points of the MR cylinder are more simple, compact and reliable structure than a conventional oil hydraulic cylinder. The experimental results show that the MR cylinder could be used as a servo actuator.
Despite the development of electronic components and microprocessors, hydraulic actuators are still being applied in various applications. In some applications, there is a desire to apply a hydraulic actuator with a relatively small position error to the system. Various studies have been conducted to reduce the position error of hydraulic actuators. In this paper, the position error of the hydraulic actuator when the hydraulic oil pressure is supplied is defined as the offset generated by the servo valve, and the method for correcting the servo valve offset has been studied. A method for compensating the servo valve offset was proposed and it was verified through experiments that the position error of the hydraulic actuator was reduced. We also compared the servo valve offset correction method and controller using the PID control and disturbance observer used to reduce the position error of the hydraulic actuator. No-load test and load test were performed to confirm the performance of the servo valve offset correction method. The results of the study were compared with those obtained by using the disturbance observer and PID control.
The conventional technique to measure the hysteresis and the null of servo valves is defined in ISO 10770-1 and based on load flow signal of the servo valve. A new technique based on the transmission line pressures is suggested in this study. The new measuring method was verified through a series of experiments. No hysteresis was observed between the spool displacement and the transmission line pressures, load pressure or each chamber pressure. Some hysteresis was observed between valve input and pressures, which was found to be the same as those of load flow and spool displacement for the valve input. By using the chamber pressures, the hysteresis and the null are easier to measure than the load pressure or differential pressure between those two chamber pressures because the chamber pressures showed sharp edges.

This paper presents an active auxiliary edge-resonant DC link snubber with a ringing surge damper and a three-phase voltage source type zero voltage soft-switching inverter with the resonat snubber treated here for the AC servo motor driver applications. The operation of the active auxiliary edge-resonant DC link snubber circuit with PWM voltage is described, together with the practical design method to select its circuit parameters. The three-phase voltage source type soft-switching inverter with a single edge-resonant DC link snubber treated here is evaluated and discussed for the small-scale permanent magnet (PM) type-AC servo motor driver from an experimental point of view. In addition to these, the AC motor stator current and its motor speed response for the proposed three-phase soft-switching inverter employing Intelligent Power Module(IPM) based on IGBTS are compared with those of the conventional three-phase hard-switching inverter using IPM. The practical effectiveness of the three-phase soft-switching inverter-fed permanent magnet type AC motor speed tracking servo driver is proven on the basis of the common mode current in a novel type three-phase soft-switching inverter-fed AC motor side and the conductive noise on the mains terminal interface voltage as compared with those of the conventional three-phase hard-switching inverter-fed permanent magnet type AC servo motor driver for the speed tracking applications.
An additive servo-system is developed to improve straightness of linear motor stages. For linear motor stages used in the field of high-precision linear motion process, high straightness accuracy is necessary as well as positioning accuracy in the longitudinal axis. In such cases, machining and assembling cost increases to improve the straightness accuracy. An electro-magnetic actuator which is relatively cost effective than any other conventional servo-systems is suggested to compensate the fixed straightness error. To overcome the compensation error due to modeling error and friction disturbance, a sliding mode control is addressed. The effectiveness of the suggested mechanism and the control are illustrated along with some experimental results.
An inverted pendulum mounted on a cart and actuated by a hydraulic servo cylinder was designed and built. Position information of the cart was acquired via a potentiometer and a angle of the pendulum was sensed by an incremental encoder. These were collected by a DAQ board and processed through the Real-Time Windows Target software(included in simulink). A simulink graphical program was implemented as a controller of the hydraulic system that governed the motion of the cart in order to maintain vertical balance of the inverted pendulum. The purpose of this study is to develop an electro-hydraulic inverted pendulum system for a modeling and controling the intrinsic unstable system. The simulation results were compared with the experimental and verified.
This paper presents the road simulator control technology for reproducing the road input signal to implement the real road data. The simulator consists of the hydraulic pump, servo valve, hydraulic actuator and its control equipment. The QFT is utilized to control the simulator effectively. The control system illustrates a tracking performance of the closed-loop controller with low order transfer function G(s) and pre-filter F(s) for a parametric uncertain model. A force controller is designed to communicate the control signal between simulator and digital controller. The efficacy of the QFT force controller is verified through the numerical simulation, in which combined dynamics and actuation of the hydraulic servo system are tested. The simulation results show that the proposed control technique works well under uncertain hydraulic plant system. The conventional software (Labview) is used to make up for the real controller in the real-time basis, and the experimental works show that the proposed algorithm works well for a single road simulator.
