  • Recently, mobile communication systems have supported various services including internet from voice centric service as they evolve toward 3G. To accommodate the increasing number of users, an AAL2 multiplexing scheme is introduced in the UTRAN tub interface for link efficiency. However, limited radio resources and different requirements of various services make it difficult to guarantee the QoS requirements at radio access networks. The conventional AAL2/ATM multiplexing systems focused on the multiplexing efficiency of voice anddata services and QoS issues of real time and non real time services. In this paper, we classfy various services according to QoS requirements and propose AAL2/ATM multiplexing schemes using statistical multiplexing and scheduling with a rather simple structure to guarantee the given requirements. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes perform better than the conventional schemes to guarantee QoS requirements of various services.

  • Satellite communication is a wide area network (WAN) which provides communication service worldwide. However, the performance of TCP can be seriously degraded in the satellite networks due to limited bandwidth, long round-trip time (RTT) and high bit error rate (BER) over satellite links. In order to improve the performance of TCP, this paper proposes cross-layer Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) in digital video broadcasting-return channel via satellite (DVB-RCS) networks. The proposed protocol sets TCP Congestion Window (CWND) size by using satellite resource allocation information exchanged between TCP and the link-layer. we implement PEP testbed based on Linux to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol performs better than standard TCP both in single and multiple sessions in variant BER, because the proposed protocol sets TCP CWND size by using satellite resource allocation.

  • A cellular system with fixed relays is considered to be a technology that can support high data transmission service to wide areas. However, either inter-cell interference or inter-sector interference that can be produced by adding relays to the cellular system with fixed relays does not guarantee high link performance to deteriorate function, so that resource allocation for avoidance of interference is very much important. In the paper, the cellular system performance with repeater relay has been compared with the cellular system performance with relay, and cell coverage expansion at the use of relay repeater has been compared. To compare, this paper has suggested resource allocation method to avoid inter-cell interference and inter-sector interference at installation of fixed relay on the cellular system. The proposed method can allocate different frequency resources on adjacent base stations and relays to reduce interference and to expand high data transmission area, and all of frequency bands are used at each sector to elevate efficiency of the frequency when base stations and relays operate simultaneously.

  • Recently, multimedia data transmission becomes important issues in the wireless sensor network. For the multimedia data transmission in wireless sensor network, QoS (Quality of service) is an important factor to determine the system performance. AODV algorithm is one of the widely used algorithm for wireless ad-hoc environment. In AODV, the destination node selects the route with the smallest hop count. Since AODV only considers the hop count, the selected route could have low channel condition, and degrade QoS. In this paper, we propose a modified AODV algorithm that considers the successful transmission rate of each link. The proposed algorithm regards the number of retransmission which can be obtained from the successful transmission rate as the hop count, and applies the modified hop count to AODV. The advantage of the proposed algorithm is that the modified AODV can support QoS without significant change of the conventional algorithm.

  • Theses and Dissertation(TD) have been considered one of valuable scholarly resources, while there have existed some limitations to collect, organize, and provide them. The purpose of this study is to investigate users' perception on six TD services from five institutions and to propose improvement strategies. Six TD services includes National Library, National Assembly Library, RISS, dCollections, NDSL, and Council of Theses and Dissertation Common Use. Based on the survey results from 151 users, the findings of this study identified that National Assembly Library and RISS were preferred by users. In addition, users preferred keyword, full text, department, abstract, table of contents, as well as title and author over other bibliographic information. More importantly, users needs were placed on whether specific TD services provide full text or not. In case that is not possible to provide full text, users have a preference for full text link information. As a result, in order to improve the TD services, service promotion activities, diverse access points, and full text provision are desirable.

  • This work presents an analysis of the buffer features of an access router, especially the size, the impact on delay and the packet loss rate. In particular, we study how these features can affect the Quality of Service (QoS) of multimedia applications when generating traffic bursts in local networks. First, we show how in a typical SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) network in which several multimedia flows (VoIP, videoconferencing and video surveillance) share access, the upgrade of the bandwidth of the internal network may cause the appearance of a significant amount of packet loss caused by buffer overflow. Secondly, the study shows that the bursty nature of the traffic in some applications traffic (video surveillance) may impair their QoS and that of other services (VoIP and videoconferencing), especially when a certain number of bursts overlap. Various tests have been developed with the aim of characterizing the problems that may appear when network capacity is increased in these scenarios. In some cases, especially when applications generating bursty traffic are present, increasing the network speed may lead to a deterioration in the quality. It has been found that the cause of this quality degradation is buffer overflow, which depends on the bandwidth relationship between the access and the internal networks. Besides, it has been necessary to describe the packet loss distribution by means of a histogram since, although most of the communications present good QoS results, a few of them have worse outcomes. Finally, in order to complete the study we present the MOS results for VoIP calculated from the delay and packet loss rate.

  • This study researched the trends of mathematics education in Korean mathematics class in the aspects of teaching and learning method, assessment and teachers' competency based on TIMSS 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007. For the mathematics teaching and learning method, the differentiated instruction rate is higher. The activities focused on students not teacher are more, and frequencies of homework are higher but time spent for homework is less than the past. Especially, mathematics teachers link homeworks to instructions. And mathematics teachers uses more multiple choice items and more various assessment methods than the past. The average age of mathematics teachers tends to become older since 1995. The major of mathematics teacher are primarily mathematics and mathematics education. Korean mathematics teachers have less self-esteem for teaching mathematics contents and have more various interactions with peers. The rate of participating in-service training is more or less according to training contents.

  • A large amount of work has been done in the areas of routing, MAC, QoS, capacity, location service, cooperative communication, fault tolerance, mobility models and various applications of mesh networks thanks to their merits of cost-effective way of deployment and flexibility in extending wireline services. Although multi-path routing protocols have been proposed to be used to provide QoS and fault-tolerance, there has not been any significant results discussed that support both in the literature to our best knowledge as they are often required in military and public safety applications. In this paper, we present a novel routing protocol for a mesh network based on the OFDM-TDMA collision-free MAC that discovers and maintains multiple paths that allows retransmitting and forwarding packets that have been blocked due to a link failure using an alternative next-hop node such that the delay-capacity tradeoff is reduced and the reliability is enhanced. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol performs well in terms of both the QoS and delivery ratio.

  • Multiprocessor system on chip (MPSoC) platform has set a new innovative trend for the System on Chip (SoC) design. With the rapidly approaching billion transistors era, some of the main problem in deep sub-micron technologies characterized by gate lengths in the range of 60-90 nm will arise from non scalable wire delays, errors in signal integrity and un-synchronized communication. These problems may be addressed by the use of Network on Chip (NOC) architecture for future SoC. Most future SoCs will use network architecture and a packet based communication protocol for on chip communication. This paper presents an adaptive wormhole routing with proactive turn prohibition to guarantee deadlock free on chip communication for NOC architecture. It shows a simple muting architecture with five full-duplex, flit-wide communication channels. We provide simulation results for message latency and compare results with those of dimension ordered techniques operating at the same link rates.
