Since 2000, Korean Society has developed social service program, facing the increasing social needs. With the semi-public goods' factor, social service has shown the original limitation in the private market. This paper analyses social services for children and older citizens in 6 metro cities, exploring the current condition and limitation. Program were collected through research institute and metro city's social service support groups. Analysis shows that most cities have similar programs without reflecting regional specialty. Therefore, the diverse and expanded supply of social services, professional service providers, reflection of regional specialty, easier accessibility of services are suggested. More participation of users in the process of program decision-making process and networking of service providers are also proposed.

This study attempted to find ways to recognize public libraries as social institutions with spatial functions to integrate generations for older adults in the face of Korea's entry into a super-aged society. In particular, the goal of this study is to find out the implications and strategies for the design of libraries and facilities for older adults. And to this end, major guidelines related to senior citizens' service spaces and facilities were analyzed to derive implications for senior citizens' services. In addition, an in-depth interview survey was conducted on elderly users with experience in using library services to identify the priorities of creating spaces and facilities for the elderly. As a result, "Open elderly service space" and "Integrated elderly service space" were proposed as a way to organize the elderly service space in public libraries.
E-government refers to the delivery of government information and services online through the Internet or other digital means. Unlike traditional structures, e-government systems are two-way, and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The interactive aspects of e-government allow both citizens and bureaucrats to send and receive information. Criticism about the provision of e-Government services, however, has proposed a more user-oriented approach. The user needs to be placed at the center of the development and the provision of e-Government services. Furthermore, e-government literatures seldom explore acceptance issues among the aged. Attempting to address this gap, we take the approach based on a combination of Technology Acceptance Model and Theory of Planned Behavior, with data gathered via a questionnaire from service users over 50 years and older. The findings indicate that perceived usefulness, ease of use, subjective norms, trust, visibility, facilitating conditions and political efficacy are direct or indirect predictors of citizens‘ intention to use an e-government service. Implications of this study for research and practice are presented.
Objectives : This study explored ways to improve the quality of life related to oral health and the oral health of senior citizens by identifying the relevance of oral health-related quality of life issues, and satisfaction with dentures in elderly 65 years of age or older. Methods : This study surveyed 220 senior citizens who are currently using dentures and 65 years of age or older living in Busan. As a result, 200 questionnaires were returned. All of these questionnaires were used in the final analysis. The method of analysis was descriptive statistics using SPSS VER. 19.0, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and regression analysis. Results : First, when verifying the difference in the quality of the health-related life of the oral cavity in accordance with the general characteristics, only average monthly income showed a significant difference. Second, the results of the analysis for factors that affect the quality of the health -related life of the oral cavity, fixation satisfaction, and mastication satisfaction, in that order, affected the general satisfaction of the elderly. Conclusions : Dentures satisfaction and the quality of the health-related life of the oral cavity show a high correlation and causality.
Objectives : In this study, the awareness of hospice and the perceptions on the need for visiting palliative care and what constitutes a good death of the citizens of Busan were investigated. The purpose of this study was to develop a hospice system based on the needs of the citizenry of Busan by seeking solutions for current hospice strategies. Methods : One thousand Busan citizens from 20 to 80 years of age were surveyed in this study. Results : Busan citizens defined a good death as spending less than one month of time in the actual process of dying at home between the ages of 80-89 years. They knew about hospice a little and were aware of its necessity. They also knew about the necessity of visiting palliative care and were interested in receiving it when appropriate but did not know much about it. Conclusions : First, there is a large difference between Busan citizens' expectations on what constitutes a good death and what a good death really is. Second, Hospice palliative care should be provided to the community. Third, the older the patient is, the more palliative care visits are necessary. Fourth, 40s and 50s must make preparations for hospice palliative care in their future.
Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the nutritional status, health conditions, eating habits and experience and demand for nutrition dietary management of senior citizens. And these data are formed foundation of development of nutrition dietary management education program and contents in welfare facilities for the aged. Methods: We visited 3 public health centers, 3 senior citizens centers, and 4 welfare centers in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Chungnam province, and Daejeon area and carried out interview by semi-structured questionnaire for senior citizens older than 65 years who use those facilities. Results: The study included 17%, 30.7% and 52.3% of senior citizens from public health centers, seniorcitizen centers and and welfare centers, respectively. The age range of 43.9% of the population was 65-74 years and and 56.1% were older than 75 years. We observed that 83.2% of subjects took some medicines due to diseases that they have and 58.0% took prescription medicines for hypertension. The thing that they considered the most when selecting food was 'the taste'(p<0.05). Regarding the level of practice to keep the dietary life, they answered more than 'average' for most of items but answered less than 'average' for lot of salt intake, drinking, exercise. For the experience of nutrition dietary life education, only 19.8% answered 'Yes' and the service for nutrition dietary life management showed the highest score in the demand for 'provide nutritious food'. For the size of consulting group for nutrition/dietary life education, the public health center and welfare center preferred a larger group size but the senior citizens center preferred a smaller group. With regard to who will carry out the consulting, the demand for dietitian was the highest and the operation type showed the high demand in the order of consulting, education. The contents that they want to have consultation in nutrition dietary life education were diet therapy for diseases and the ordinary diet therapy for health. Conclusions: This study suggested the management of nutrition dietry life necessitates qualitative measures according to the different types of welfare facilities. For these, it is in need of development of counseling and education program included therapy for disease. Above all, the policy to secure dietitian of welfare facilities for the aged to perform these should be achived.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing quality of life of caregivers using day care services. Methods: Data were collected from 14 different day care services in D city, with a total of 146 female caregivers as participants. All participants were at home caregivers whose patients were senior citizens older than 65. Data were collected from September 1 to 30 of 2008 and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Quality of life among caregivers of day care services differed significantly according to state of health, other caregivers, job, and family income. Quality of life among caregivers showed correlation with caregiving burden. The significant predictors affecting quality of life were state of health, other caregivers, job, and family income and caregiving burden. A combination of these predictors accounted for 43.5% of the variance in quality of life. Conclusion: These findings show that quality of life of family caregivers using day care services is influenced by caregiving burden. Development of day care service programs is necessary in order to reduce caregiving burden of family caregivers for the elderly.
The purpose of this study was 1) to review communal housing in the UK, 2) to consider the policy implications for elderly communal housing in Korea. The research methods used were 1) literature review about communal housing and related policy in the UK 2) field survey in the UK 3) interpretative suggestion for the proper policy implication to develope communal housing for the elderly in Korea. Sheltered housing in the UK had been developed as communal housing for the elderly with special needs since the 1970s. The type of sheltered housing were category 1 and category 2. Very sheltered housing with more facilities and meal services was added in 1980s. Sheltered housing was evaluated as the most humanistic solution for older people in the UK in 1980s. Because of the policy of moving institutional care to community care, sheltered housing became less in demand because of more options for older people including being able to stay in their own home. So new completion of sheltered housing by registered social landlords reduced saliently. Sheltered housing already totalled over half million units in which 5% of all elderly over 65 still lived and a small quantity of private sector for sale schemes emerged in the 1990s. The reason why the residents moved to sheltered housing was for sociable, secure, and manageable living arrangements. In general the residents were satisfied with these characteristics but dissatisfied with the service charge and quality of meals, especially in category 2.5 schemes. The degree of utilisation of communal spaces and facilities depended on the wardens ability and enthusiasm. Evaluation of sheltered housing indicated several problems such as wardens duty as a \"good neighbour\" ; difficult-to-let problems with poor location or individual units of bedsittiing type with shared bathroom ; and the under use of communal spaces and facilities. Some ideas to solve these problems were suggested by researchers through expanding wardens duty as a professional, opening the scheme to the public, improving interior standards, and accepting non-elderly applicants who need support. Some researchers insisted continuing development of sheltered housing, but higher standards must be considered for the minority who want to live in communal living arrangement. Recently, enhanced sheltered housing with greater involvement of relatives and with tied up policy in registration and funding suggested as an alternative for residential care. In conclusion, the rights of choice for older people should be policy support for special needs housing. Elderly communal housing, especially a model similar to sheltered housing category 2 with at least 1 meal a day might be recommended for a Korean Model. For special needs housing development either for rent or for sale, participation of the public sector and long term and low interest financial support for the private sector must be developed in Korea. Providing a system for scheme managers to train and retrain must be encouraged. The professional ability of the scheme manager to plan and to deliver services might be the most important factor for the success of elderly communal housing projects in Korea. In addition the expansion of a public health care service, the development of leisure programs in Senior Citizens Centre, home helper both for the elderly in communal housing and the elderly in mainstream housing of the community as well. Providing of elderly communal housing through the modified general Construction Act rather than the present Elderly Welfare Act might be more helpful to encourage the access of general people in Korea. in Korea.

The objective of this study was to derive the served distance of the senior-friendly park considering physical changes, which were estimated through a comparison experiment at an actual target site. The time to walk 500m was examined because 500m is considered the served distance of a neighborhood park and as a standard set by the city. The mean walking time of the control group (younger than 65 years) was 536 seconds, while that of the treatment group (older than 65 years) was 889 seconds, which was approximately 1.7 times longer than the control group. The results of this study also showed that the walking time of females was longer than that of males when they were older than 65 years old. The walking velocities of the control group and the treatment groups were also calculated using the mean walking time. The weight estimated by a proportional formula was 0.6. When it was applied to 500m, which is the served distance of a neighborhood park, the served distance of the senior-friendly park was estimated as 300m. Lastly, the green service excluded area was quantified by applying the 300m, the served distance of a senior-friendly park, to the Jung-gu, Daegu, which had the highest elderly population in the Daegu Metropolitan City. The results of this calculation showed that the area served by a city park was $2,425,747m^2$ and the area excluded from the city park service was $4,627,700m^2$ for senior citizens. The results also showed that, in terms of the distributive equity, the administrative districts received unequal am ounts of urban green area services.
The purpose of this study was to find out how smartphone education affects their lives and the positive factors of smartphone education applied with one-on-one education system for elderly. The research was conducted once a week for a total of five weeks from May 14 to June 11, 2018, and consisted of one old woman and one volunteer, and conducted in a one-to-one mentoring format. The results of this study showed that smartphone training for senior citizens increased the self-efficacy of older people, but showed no significant change in well-being and quality of life. In this way, various studies will have to be conducted to recognize the need for information service education in order to maintain a positive life for the elderly in a rapidly changing modern society.
