Investigating the Time Lag Effect between Economic Recession and Suicide Rates in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry Workers in Korea

  • Previous studies on the vast increase in suicide mortality in Southeast Asia have indicated that suicide rates increase in parallel with a rise in unemployment or during periods of economic recession. This paper examines the effects of economic recession on suicidal rates amongst agriculture, fisheries, and forestry workers in Korea. Monthly time-series gross domestic product (GDP) data were linked with suicidal rates gathered from the cause of death records between1993-2008. Data were analyzed using generalized additive models to analyze trends, while a polynomial lag model was used to assess the unconstrained time lag effects of changes in GDP on suicidal rate. We found that there were significant inverse correlations between changes in GDP and suicide for a time lag of one to four months after the occurrence of economic event. Furthermore, it was evident that the overall relative risks of suicide were high enough to bring about social concern.

SMEs in Korea IT infrastructure needs as well as commercial services such as simulation, test environment configuration, to perform tasks that require a step-by-step in the product development process, which requires different IT Infrastructure Outsourcing workforce commitment, according to the rapid changes in the size of the organization's efficient IT infrastructure such as cloud services because of the lack of capacity to respond to a sudden demand for IT measures required.

Quality Characteristics of Cookies with Varied Concentrations of Blueberry Powder (블루베리 분말을 첨가한 쿠키의 품질 특성)

  • To manufaure cookies with blueberry, cookies with 0%, 1%, 3%, 5%, or 7% added blueberry were prepared and tested for quality. Their pH was decreased by addition of blueberries' addition, and the influence of the pH also decreased the sugar level. For the cookies' color, L and b (yellowness) were decreased, and a was increased. The same result was shown when anthocyanin foods were added. Cookies' diameter, spreadability, and thickness were increased as blueberries were added. The cookies' hardness was lowered with increasing addition of blueberries. 3% and 5% blueberry-added cookies received the highest sensory-test scores, so these blueberry cookie showed its possibility of success to develop it as a product.

Content Analysis of On-Line Consumer Information for Elderly - Comparison between the US and Korea Apparel E-tailing Sites - (노년층 의류 소비자를 위한 온라인 소비자 정보에 대한 분석 - 한국과 미국의 웹사이트의 비교연구 -)

  • Internet apparel businesses are required to provide various kinds of consumer information which includes both product information and customer service information. "New Age Elderly" who become an aged man in 21th century are familiar with internet and other high technological tools from their life time experience with technological development and ready to enjoy the convenience the technology offers. As a preliminary step to develop internet consumer information model for elderly consumers, this study examines the US and Korea apparel e-tailing sites targeting elderly consumers. Ten Korean sites and nine US sites were selected and compared for their provision of consumer information in terms of contents, ease to access, and the completeness of the information. Results of data analysis indicate that elderly market in Korea is not yet clearly defined compared to the US. In Korea, elderly consumer market is considered as a part of middle-aged market, and there was no unique target marketing efforts observed. Korean sites are better than the US's sites in terms of shopping information, while the US sites offer detailed information about the company, and customer service information. In both countries, fashion related information is lacking and failing to satisfy fashion conscious elderly consumers. Managerial implications were discussed.

  • This study was performed to inquire demand for indroducing certification on contract foodservice management company(CFMC) and review about the system in a related field. The methodology was practiced an in-depth interview for grasping demand on certification of CFMC and composition on an appraiser group. Content analysis was reviewed about the system in a related field. Large enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises were positive opinion on a certification of CFMC and they suggested that education and research institution, industry, government, association will be included in appraiser group. The review about the system of a related industry was investigated by field such as similar product and service with restaurant industry, similar service with hotel and tourism industry. And similar purpose with a certification of CFMC was put in operation as PQ(pre-qualification) and selecting an adequate corporation in architecture industry. Therefore, a certification of CFMC should be tried to scientific introduction by objective verification.

Effect of Perceived Value on CRM Quality and Purchase Intention in the Corporate Social Media Context

  • Corporate social media has been recently used in customer relationship management in many ways to improve product sales and company images. Not much research exists on corporate social media, Therefore, in this paper, we propose a research model to identify how corporate social media enhances corporate's CRM quality, resulting in forming customer's purchase intention. In detail, this paper is to examine how customer's perceived value of corporate social media influences CRM quality(CRM trust and CRM commitment), and then how CRM quality affects purchase intention. To this end, a total of 300 questionnaires were used from online panel respondents to test research hypothesis. The findings showed that service performance value and monetary value were major determinants of CRM trust, however, there was no association between brand integration value and CRM trust. In addition, the effects of service performance value and brand integration value on CRM commitment were found whereas monetary value had no effect on CRM commitment. The results also showed that CRM trust and CRM commitment played a critical role in forming of purchase intention. Theoretical and practical Implications are discussed.

Nitrites contents on processed meat products(ham, sausage etc) in market during 2000-2003 (시판 식육가공품(햄류, 소시지류 등)에 대한 최근 4년간(2000-2003) 아질산이온 함량)

  • Contents of nitrites was tested in 2,290 meat products during 2000-2003, in Seoul by Diazoa method. It was detected over 40 ppm NO$_2$$\^$-/ contents in 20 hams, 7 sausages, one bacon, and one crushed meat product respectively. Also, over 20ppm nitrites was 21.8%(240/1,103) in hams, 20.7%(122/589) in sausages, 6.8%(14/205) in crushed meats, and in 6.0%(5/83) bacons respectively. In case of average contents and contents range, 0.012 g/kg, ND-0.116 g/kg in hams, 0.012 g/kg, ND-0.066 g/kg in sausages, 0.010 g/kg, 0.001-0.089 g/kg in bacons, and 0.006 g/kg, ND-0.040 g/kg in crushed meats etc. Specially, in sausages, it was increased continually by years, in not only average nitrites contents but also their contents range, also, in case of bacons, increased continually by years on only average nitrites contents. According to results, the NO$_2$$\^$-/ contents monitoring for the processed meat products must be reinforced to supply safety food for the citizens.

  • The Korean Musk deer (Moschus Moschiferus) is endangered due to heavy hunting and Massive destructions of natural habitat. They are included in CITES appendix II. In addition they are designated as a precious natural product in 1968 and listed as endangered species by the Government and Cultural Heritage Administration. At present, the number of musk deer in Korea is smaller than minimum viable population. Without increment of the population size, natural restoration is impossible. It is necessary to develop the artificial growth and re-enforcement methods in order to conservation Korean musk deer. Furthermore, It is necessary to ensure that we have an adequate individual group for artificial growth and re-enforcement. To ensure that we have an adequate individual group, it is necessary to know ecology of musk deer. This study is conducted to confirm and investigate of habitat of musk deer in order to capture individual musk deer. we investigated, confirmed habitats, found traces and captured using trap and decoy. Captured musk deer is male and 5.5 kg, this have canine tooth of 1.5cm, is estimated 15 months old. After capture, we measured each parts of body and tested to research of parasite infection. Strongyloides papillous was founded in the feces. It is essential to get healthy individual and establish of artificial growth technique.

Physiochemical Characteristics and Antioxidant Activity of Soybean Curd Added with Saltwort (Salicornia herbacea L.) (함초를 첨가한 두부의 이화학적 특성 및 항산화성)

  • In this study the physiochemical characteristics and antioxidant activity of soybean curd were prepared with saltwort (Salicornia herbacea L.). The moisture and protein of the saltwort soybean curd showed no difference among the samples. Ash and lipid were found to be the highest in the soybean curd to which 20% saltwort was added. The contents of mineral(Fe, K, Mg, Zn) were highest in the soybean curd to which 20% saltwort was added, and Ca content was high in the soybean curd to which 16% and 20% saltwort was added. DPPH (1,1-dipheny1-2-picryl-hydrazyl) radical scavenging activity is a method of measuring the antioxidant power of food; this was high in the soybean curd to which 20% saltwort was added. Adding more saltwort led to higher scavenging activity. From the above results, it could be seen that the soybean curd, which is made by adding saltwort, contributed to enhancing the functionality of antioxidant activation and product quality.

Suggestions for a better HACCP system assessment in livestock product processing plants (축산물가공장 HACCP system 평가방법 개선방안)

  • According to the Korean government policy of expanding HACCP system application to food chain from farm to meat market, the importance of HACCP assessment to keep balance among the certified HACCP plants is urged. The objective of this study is to recommend more effective HACCP assessment methods. We reviewed major foreign countries HACCP implementation policy focused on the audit system, and compared with the Korean HACCP assessment system. We found that the checklist guidelines of prerequisite program were not enough for precise evaluation and many of the items were not directly related to the risk occurrences. And current rating grade for each items and judgments were inadequate to induce non-compliances and corrections for better HACCP implementation. We suggest revision points as follows; (1) checklists should be revised and reorganized according to the possibility of risk occurrences, (2) all the items should be supported by detailed guidelines for more objective inspection, (3) non-compliances identified must be reconfirmed after correction, (4) the items for HACCP plan should be divided into an accreditation inspection and a regular inspection, (5) rating grade 'high', 'medium', 'low', 'failure' was better for indicating non-compliances.
