  • Instant messaging(IM) service is one of the useful communication means in the Intemet for exchanging simple messages between users. Usually, IM service is coupled with Presence service which provides status information of users. In this case, instant messages are sent and received directly between on-line users. Therefore, messages could not be exchanged when users are in off-line state. In this paper, We have implemented SIP based Instant Messaging System which includes message server that can store and manage instant messages. With this message server, messages could be exchanged legalness of user states. Furthermore, our system includes message waiting indication event package which provides useful informations about messages in the message server. And this system also includes the Caller Preference capabilities.

  • A geographical indication is a protected trade name or mark for a product that corresponds to a specific geographic location or origin. Geographical indications have been widely used in European countries over the last three decades, mainly for wine and food products. This study investigates the consumer perception of geographical indications for agricultural and processed products and purchase experiences of consumers. It also examines consumer intention to pay more for geographical indication products. The findings from the empirical investigation showed that only 24.0% of the respondents have purchased geographical indication products whereas 49.5% of the respondents have not. Meanwhile, 26.5% of the respondents reported that they were unaware of geographical indications. Main reasons of purchasing geographical indication products were trust in quality, safety, and better taste. On the other hand, main reasons of not purchasing geographical indication products were lack of knowledge and no distinctive quality. The respondents answered that they would pay more for geographical indication products especially for luxury items such as ginseng, wine, and beef.

  • This paper investigates the restoration schemes which are applied to the MPLS domain upon a network failure. We define the following three restoration service models by combining the various restoration schemes: "FIS-based protection service" (FIS: failure indication signal), "inversion traffic protection service" and "1+1 protection service". After a qualitative analysis of the performance in them, we have analyzed it on quantitative basis by the simulation. According to the simulation results, "1+1 protection service" guarantees the fastest and most lossless restoration service among them; however, it results in consuming considerable bandwidth and producing an amount of control traffic, which means poor network utilization. On the other hand, "FIS-based protection service" spends less bandwidth and generates less control traffic, which means better network utilization, but produces poor restoration service. "Inversion traffic protection service" provides the medium restoration service and utilization between "1+1 protection service" and "FIS-based protection service."

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest strategies for effective food allergen labeling in order to prevent food allergies in school meal service. Food allergy experience, eating behavior, and perceptions of food allergen labeling in school meal service were surveyed and compared according to the food allergy experiences of middle school girls in Incheon. Seventy-eight students (17% of total subjects) experienced food allergies. For eating behaviors, students with food allergy experience had significantly higher scores for using nutritional knowledge in their life than inexperienced subjects. For the perception of food allergen labeling in school meal service, girls who had experienced food allergies more often checked labeling of school meals for allergenic foods than those who had no experience of food allergies (P<0.001). The most desirable method for displaying allergenic foods was an indication of the allergenic food name among students who had experienced food allergies and allergenic food number of the current method for students who had not experienced food allergies (P<0.001). Students who had not experienced food allergies showed significantly lower interest in food allergen labeling than subjects who had experienced food allergies (P<0.001). For the importance score of information items in nutrition labeling, allergenic food score was significantly higher in students who had experienced food allergies (3.9 vs. 3.4 points, P<0.001). These results indicate that students who have experienced food allergies are more interested in food allergen labeling of school meals and that they are more aware. Efforts to improve labeling method such as directly labeling allergenic food name and a more visible indication are required for efficient utilization of food allergen labeling in school meal service.

  • This study was conducted to examine the consumption realities of processed food and the perception of food labeling with targets of university students attending schools in Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas. The reason for buying processed food was because it is easy to cook. As for the number of using processed food, it was answered that everyday dairy products, noodles, breads and snacks for 3~4 times a month, and meat processed foods, canned foods, sauces and frozen foods for 2~3 times a month. With regard to selecting processed products, both male and female students answered with taste and price first, barely considering the safety and nutritional elements. It turned out that they check the price, expiration date and country of origin in order upon buying processed foods. Most of them recognized food labeling, but answered that they checked it sometimes in order to check the 'expiration date' and the 'calories'. They were aware of the food nutritional contents indication. It was turned out that male students check it for nutrients and female students for weight control. The effect of the processed food indication was that it is easy to choose the necessary foods for health and as well as for comparing the food with other products. The satisfaction of the food labeling system was mediocre. The results indicated that the food indication system needs to be educated or promoted.

  • In this paper, we have studied a new method in which multimedia message can be processed effectively in SIP(Session Initiation Protocol)-based Instant Messaging service. Total system is composed of multimedia message server, presence server and user system. To provide effectively message informations such as number of messages stored in the multimedia message server, waiting status and message types to users, we have proposed a new method which can be a substitute for message waiting indication event package. In our proposed method, when changes of messages status informations occur, these informations are sent to the presence server, and can be transferred as a separate tag within notification message. The presence server processes subscription requests and notifications, and efficiency can be improved as it provides both message status informations and several communication status informations such as on-line status to service users. Partial publication is used in our system to improve data transfer efficiency more between user system and the presence server. The performance of our proposed model is evaluated by experiments measuring multimedia message transfer speed and server processing time.

  • The presence informations of users of Instant Messaging System In SIP(Session Initiation Protocol) environment are obtained by presence server, and message waiting indication event package is used to provide various message informations stored in the message server. In this paper, I have proposed a new method in which Extended CPL(Call Processing Language) has been applied to presence service to provide various functions to the users. A user of Instant Messaging System subscribes presence information and CPL scripts which describe his requirements, and presence server executes CPL scripts when instant messaging service is subscribed and notifies presence informations. Several CPL operation tags are added, and therefore various services which combine presence service and call processing can be provided in this system. Furthermore a new method has been proposed in which message server and presence server correlate in Instant Messaging System. When changes of message status informations occur, message server send these informations to the presence server, and presence server provides both presence informations and message status informations in extended format. As this method can be a substitute for message waiting indication event package, the system operating efficiency can be increased. The performance of this proposed system is evaluated by experiments.

  • As Korea has just turned into an aging society with the increase of average life expectancy, and the main causes of deaths is cancer and other chronic diseases. And this corresponds to a dramatic increase in medical expenses for the aged. To curve this problem, the hospice care can be an effective alternative, which can provide patients with both quality service and intensive care to help ensure high quality life for the patients. To demonstrate the economical effect of hospice services, a comparative study on the media expenses of geriatric hospitals and general hospitals, which bear similarities in common regarding the characteristics of their patients, is performed. Thus the results of the study can serve as a quantitative indication for the management of hospice services.

  • This paper presents an active assisted-living system in wireless sensor and actor network (WSAN) in which the mobile robot roles an actor. In order to provide assisted-living service to the elderly people, position recognition of the sensor node attached on the user and localization of the mobile robot should be performed at the same time. For the purpose, we use received signal strength indication (RSSI) to find the position of the person and ubiquitous sensor nodes including ultrasonic sensor which performs both transmission of sensor information and localization like global positioning system. Active services are moving to the elderly people by detecting activity sensor and visual tracking and voice chatting with remote monitoring system.
