  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to analyze the trend of the number of nursing staffs and skill mix and to assess the effectiveness of hospital nurse expansion policies in Korea. Methods : The trend of the number of nursing staffs and skill mix were analyzed using time series data, which composed of yearly series data from 1975 to 2009. The impact of hospital nurse expansion policies was estimated by autoregressive integrated moving average(ARIMA) intervention model. Results : The number of general hospital and hospital nurses per 100 beds was decreased in late 1980s and late 1990s due to rapid growth of beds. As a result of the number of nurse aids per 100 beds decreased, skill mix became high in general hospital but nurse ratio among hospital nursing staffs was about 50%. Expansion of new nurse and revised differentiated inpatient fee were only effective in expansion of hospital nursing staffs. But they had no effect in general hospitals. Conclusion : In Korea, a few policies related to expansion of hospital nurses have an effect on increasing the number of hospital nurse. Nevertheless, level of hospital nursing staffs is inferior to that of general hospital.

  • Type I hybrid censoring scheme is the combination of the Type I and Type II censoring scheme introduced by Epstein (1954). Epstein considered a hybrid censoring sampling scheme in which the life testing experiment is terminated at a random time $T^*$ which is the time that happens rst among the following two; time of the kth unit is observed or time of the experiment length set in advance. The likelihood function of this scheme from the Rayleigh distribution cannot be solved in a explicit solution and thus we approximate the function by the Taylor series expansion. In this process, we propose four dierent methods of expansion skill.

  • Recently we formulated a 2D hybrid stress element from the 3D Hellinger-Reissner principle for the analysis of thick bodies that are symmetric to the thickness direction. Polynomials have typically been used for all the displacement and stress fields. Although the element predicted the dominant stress and all displacement fields accurately, its prediction of the out-of-plane shear stresses was affected by the very high order terms used in the polynomials. This paper describes an improved formulation of the 2D element using Fourier series expansion for the out-of-plane displacement and stress fields. Numerical results illustrate that its predictions have markedly improved.

  • Using one-range addition theorems for Slater type orbitals (STOs) and Coulomb-Yukawa like correlated interaction potentials (CIPs) introduced by the author, the series expansion formulae are derived for the multicenter multielectron integrals. The expansion coefficients occurring in these relations are presented through the overlap integrals of two STOs. The convergence of series expansion relations is tested by calculating concrete cases. The accuracy of the results is quite high for quantum number, screening constants and location of orbitals. The final results are especially useful in the calculation of multielectron properties for atoms and molecules when Hartree-Fock-Roothaan (HFR) and explicitly correlated methods are employed.

  • For evaluating the response fluctuation of the actual environmental acoustic system excited by arbitrary random inputs, it is important to predict a whole probability distribution form closely connected with evaluation indexes Lx, Leq and so on. In this paper, a new type evaluation method is proposed by introducing three functional models matched to the prediction of the response probability distribution from a problem-oriented viewpoint. Because of the positive variable of the sound intensity, the response probability density function can be reasonably expressed theoretically by a statistical Laguerre expansion series form. The relationship between input and output is described by the regression relationship between the distribution parameters(containing expansion coefficients of this expression) and the stochastic input. These regression functions are expressed in terms of the orthogonal series expansion and their parameters are determined based on the least-squares error criterion and the measure of statistical independency.

  • The first-order Taylor series expansion can be evaluated analytically from the formulated symbolic nonlinear dynamic equations. A closed-form linear dynamic euation is derived about a nominal trajectory. The state space representation of the linearized dynamics can be derived easily from the closed-form linear dynamic equations. But manual symbolic expansion of dynamic equations and linearization is tedious, time-consuming and error-prone. So it is desirable to manipulate the procedures using a computer. In this paper, the analytic linearization is performed using the symbolic language MATHEMATICA. Two examples are given to illustrate the approach anbd to compare nonlinear model with linear model.

  • This analyzed a Young's modulus (E), a thermal expansion coefficient (TEC, ${\beta}$) and a thermal conductivity (${\kappa}$) of the material with simple cubic particulate inclusion using two model structures: a parallel structure and a series structure of laminated layers. The derived ${\beta}$ equations were applied to calculate the ${\beta}$ value of the W-MgO system. The accuracy was higher for the series model structure than for the parallel model structure. Young's moduli ($E_c$) of sintered porous alumina compacts were theoretically related to the development of neck growth of grain boundary between sintered two particles and expressed as a function of porosity. The series structure model with cubic pores explained well the increased tendency of $E_c$ with neck growth rather than the parallel structure model. The thermal conductivity of the three phase system of alumina-mullite-pore was calculated by a theoretical equation developed in this research group, and compared with the experimental results. The pores in the sintered composite were treated as one phase. The measured thermal conductivity of the composite with 0.5-25% porosity (open and closed pores) was in accordance with the theoretical prediction based on the parallel structure model.

  • A new discretization algorithm for nonlinear systems with delayed input is proposed. The algorithm is represented by Taylor series expansion and ZOH assumption. This method is applied to the sampled-data representation of a nonlinear system with the time-delay input. Additionally, the delay in input is time varying and its amplitude is bounded. The maximum time-delay in input is assumed to be two sampling periods. The mathematical expressions of the discretization method are presented and the ability of the algorithm is tested for some of the examples. The computer simulation proves the proposed algorithm discretizes the nonlinear system with the variable time-delay input accurately.

  • The objective of this paper is to present a new input torque shaping method for slewing and vibration suppression of flexible structure based on Fourier series expansion. Vibration energy of the structure with shaped control input is investigated with respect to the shaping parameter of the reference torque, maneuver time and the number of trigonometric functions to be included in the series. Analytic expressions of the performance indices and their derivatives are derived in the modal coordinates. Numerical results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach to design the open-loop control law that modifies the shape of input torque for simultaneous slewing and vibration suppression.

  • This paper suggests a new method discretization of nonlinear system using Taylor series expansion and zero-order hold assumption. This method is applied into the sampled-data representation of a nonlinear system with input time delay. Additionally, the delayed input is time varying and its amplitude is bounded. The maximum time-delayed input is assumed to be two sampling periods. Them mathematical expressions of the discretization method are presented and the ability of the algorithm is tested for some of the examples. And 'hybrid' discretization scheme that result from a combination of the ‘scaling and squaring' technique with the Taylor method are also proposed, especially under condition of very low sampling rates. The computer simulation proves the proposed algorithm discretized the nonlinear system with the variable time-delayed input accurately.
