  • This paper presents a method for designing a control system to stand upright inverted triangle. A linearized model is obtained form the nonlinear system by Taylor series expansion and a state controller is designed based on the model. After implementing the control system which is combined control law and estimator with reference input, experiments are carried out to stand upright inverted triangle at any angluar position.

  • The objective of this work is to develop the capability to analyze accurately the mixed-mode propagation of a crack in composite structures with elastic orthotropic material stiffness properties and anisotropic material strength characteristics. We employ the normal stress ratio theory to predict the direction of crack extension. It is shown that the angle of crack extension can be altered by the use of second order term in the series expansion is important for the accurate determination of crack growth direction.

  • Calculations of some integrals on the n-dimensional vector space over $\mathbb{Q}_p$ are useful in getting some other formulations of quantum mechanics and the field theory of p-adic mathematical physics. For reasons of these, we estimate several integrals. As an application, we derive some properties for the p-adic Green functions.

  • This paper describes a liner state-space model for a flexible stick balencer. The method employed to generate the model utilizes a separable formulation of assumed modes to represents the transverse displacement due to bending Lagrangian dynamics are applied to determine the kinetic and potential energies for the system. The resultant dynamic equations are then organized into a state space model and linearized using Taylor series expansion method. A minimum order observer is designed to estimate unmeasurable states.

  • In the paper, algorithms for disturbance observers are newly presented in the time-domain. Attention is paid to observing a ramp disturbance by introducing an integral term to the output equation of a constant disturbance observer. In order to reduce the sensitivity to the measurement noise, the disturbance observer is combined with the state observer. It will be shown that the estimation dynamics can be arbitrarily chosen by assigning the eigenvalues of a characteristic equation. Also, we provide the analysis of observer behaviors subject to non-ramp-style disturbances. Finally, we propose the generalized disturbance observer that accurately estimates disturbances of higher order in time series expansion.

  • The degradation due to channel distortion in a quadrature modulation system from the ideal constant values over the bandwidth of a direct sequence spread spectrum signal are considered. Through using series expansion for the channel gain and phase response, the degradation in the correlator output at the receiver is found as a function of the parameters involved , including phase error, delay error, linear gin variation, quadratic gain variation, and quadratic phase variation.

  • This paper establish a high concentration ratio approximation of linear elastic properties of materials with periodic microstructure with cubic inclusions. The approximation is derived using first few terms of power series expansion of the solution of the equivalent eigenstrain problem with a homogeneous eigenstrain approximation. Viability of the approximation at high concentration ratios is proved by comparison with a numerical solution of the homogenization problem. To this end some theoretical result of symmetry properties of the homogenization problem are given. Using these results efficient numerical computation on a reduced computational domain is presented.

  • In this paper, a model of an asymptotically reliable serial production line with quailty control devices is introduced and analyzed. By an asymptotic technique and Taylor series expansion, its average production rate is approximated in a closed form. The results are applied to a case study of a surface mount system.
