Low-Quality Banknote Serial Number Recognition Based on Deep Neural Network

  • Recognition of banknote serial number is one of the important functions for intelligent banknote counter implementation and can be used for various purposes. However, the previous character recognition method is limited to use due to the font type of the banknote serial number, the variation problem by the solid status, and the recognition speed issue. In this paper, we propose an aspect ratio based character region segmentation and a convolutional neural network (CNN) based banknote serial number recognition method. In order to detect the character region, the character area is determined based on the aspect ratio of each character in the serial number candidate area after the banknote area detection and de-skewing process is performed. Then, we designed and compared four types of CNN models and determined the best model for serial number recognition. Experimental results showed that the recognition accuracy of each character was 99.85%. In addition, it was confirmed that the recognition performance is improved as a result of performing data augmentation. The banknote used in the experiment is Indian rupee, which is badly soiled and the font of characters is unusual, therefore it can be regarded to have good performance. Recognition speed was also enough to run in real time on a device that counts 800 banknotes per minute.

  • A development and application of machine vision system is introduced, which automatically recognizes the serial number of nuclear fuel tube. For the recognition, a indirect back light illuminating system is designed and a pattern matching algorithm based on neural network is applied. The various operation and management functions are also developed, on a PC under windows OS, for easy operation and data management, respectively. By the successful application of the vision system the productivity of the nuclear fuel tube recognition process is highly improved.

A Study on Word Recognition using sub-model based Hidden Markov Model (HMM 부모델을 이용한 단어 인식에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper the word recognition using sub-model based Hidden Markov Model was studied. Phoneme models were composed of 61 phonemes in therms of Korean language pronunciation characteristic. Using this, word model was maded by serial concatenation. But, in case of this phoneme concatenation, the second and the third phoneme of syllable are overlapped in distribution at the same time. So considering this, the method that combines the second and the third phoneme to one model was proposed. And to prevent the increase in number of model, similar phonemes were combined to one, and finially, 57 models were created. In experiment proper model structure of sub-model was searched for, and recognition results were compared. So similar recognition results were maded, and overall recognition rates were increased in case of using parameter tying method.

  • In this paper, we investigated the change of recognition distance according to the resonance frequency of the transponder for the ISO 14443 Type A 13.56MHz RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) system. We made thirteen transponders of the same size. The dimension of the transponder is $84.65mm{\times}53.00mm{\times}0.45mm$. We measured the resonance frequency by means of an inductive coupling. The measured resonance frequencies were between 12.9MHz and 17.3MHz. We measured the maximum distances where the transponder's USN(Unique Serial Number) was recognized and the subcarrier was observed. The measurement results show that we can obtain good performance when the Type A transponder has the resonance frequency around 14.2MHz for the given case.

  • This paper, describe about a generation of a syllable restoration regulation for a post processing of a speech recognition and a decrease of a restoration candidate. It created a syllable restoration regulation to create a restoration candidate pronounced with phonetic value recognized through a post processing of the formula system that was a tone to recognize syllable unit phonetic value for a performance enhancement of a dialogue serial speech recognition. Also, I presented a plan to remove a regulation to create unused notation from a real life in a restoration regulation with a plan to reduce number candidate of a restoration meeting. A design implemented a restoration candidate set generator in order a syllable restoration regulation display that it created a proper restoration candidate set. The proper notation meeting that as a result of having proved about a standard pronunciation example and a word extracted from a pronunciation dictionary at random, the notation that an utterance was former was included in proved with what a generation became.

Major Character Extraction using Character-Net (Character-Net을 이용한 주요배역 추출)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method of analyzing video and representing the relationship among characters based on their contexts in the video sequences, namely Character-Net. As a huge amount of video contents is generated even in a single day, the searching and summarizing technologies of the contents have also been issued. Thereby, a number of researches have been proposed related to extracting semantic information of video or scenes. Generally stories of video, such as TV serial or commercial movies, are made progress with characters. Accordingly, the relationship between the characters and their contexts should be identified to summarize video. To deal with these issues, we propose Character-Net supporting the extraction of major characters in video. We first identify characters appeared in a group of video shots and subsequently extract the speaker and listeners in the shots. Finally, the characters are represented by a form of a network with graphs presenting the relationship among them. We present empirical experiments to demonstrate Character-Net and evaluate performance of extracting major characters.

  • Recently, there have been cases in which counterfeit foreign ships have entered and left domestic ports several times. Vessels have a ship-specific serial number given by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to identify the vessel, and IMO marking is mandatory on all ships built since 2004. In the case of airports and ports, which are representative logistics platforms, a security system is essential, but it is difficult to establish a security system at a port and there are many blind spots, which can cause security problems due to insufficient security systems. In this paper, a port security system is designed using deep learning object recognition and OpenCV. The security system process extracts the IMO number of the ship after recognizing the object when entering the ship, determines whether it is the same ship through feature point matching for ships with entry records, and stores the ship image and IMO number in the entry/exit DB for the first arrival vessel. Through the system of this paper, port security can be strengthened by improving the efficiency and system of port logistics by increasing the efficiency of port management personnel and reducing incidental costs caused by unauthorized entry.
