  • X-ray plasma ejections often occurred around the impulsive phases of solar flares and have been well observed by the SXT aboard Yohkoh. Though the X-ray plasma ejections show various morphological shapes, there has been no attempt at classifying the morphological groups for a large sample of the X-ray plasma ejections. In this study, we have classified 137 X-ray plasma ejections according to their shape for the first time. Our classification criteria are as follows: (1) a loop type shows ejecting plasma with the shape of loops, (2) a spray type has a continuous stream of plasma without showing any typical shape, (3) a jet type shows collimated motions of plasma, (4) a confined ejection shows limited motions of plasma near a flaring site. As a result, we classified the flare-associated X-ray plasma ejections into five groups as follows: loop-type (60 events), spray-type (40 events), jet-type (11 events), confined ejection (18 events), and others (8 events). As an illustration, we presented time sequence images of several typical events to discuss their morphological characteristics, speed, CME association, and magnetic field configuration. We found that the jet-type events tend to have higher speeds and better association with CMEs than those of the loop-type events. It is also found that the CME association (11/11) of the jet-type events is much higher than that (5/18) of the confined ejections. These facts imply that the physical characteristics of the X-ray plasma ejections are closely associated with magnetic field configurations near the reconnection regions.

  • This paper focuses on the development of a fashion design educational program that will foster the talent and aesthetic consciousness of fashion design students. The goal of progressive educational methods with cutting edge technology is to elevate educational efficiency, and ultimately rear creative designers. To fulfill its objective, this paper presents a courseware program on fashion design education utilizing hyper media that include animation, photographs, pictures, sounds and characters. By the utilization of such comprehensive source of information media, a hypermedia courseware was developed for elementary education in fashion design with the following conclusions : 1. The program enables the students to customize their fashion design education. The students of fashion design education programs are able to choose and adjust their own programs to suit their requirements and intellectual level. 2. The program effectively motivates. Much like a constant sequence of various images on a screen that can provoke profound heart-felt emotions and inspire creativity, the program can stimulate and motivate the students. 3. The program provides a consistent education. To advance the overall quality of fashion design education, the problem of dissonance in educational content should be resolved and possible individual errors in delivery rectified. The present program will solve such problems, and establish coherent standards that will withstand the test of time regardless of time or place. 4. The program is cost effective. Since the present program frees the teacher from the time consuming drudgery of preparing various texts and lesson plans, have the materials delivered and handled, it reduces the time and cost previously required. 5. The program has the capability to be upgraded. The accumulated know-how of teachers and the total experience of the program can be linked with other programs for limitless expansion.

  • The purpose of this retrospective study was to describe the characteristics of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in dogs with meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology (MUE), and to evaluate the usefulness of meningeal enhancement. Thirty-two dogs were included in MUE group on the basis of clinical signs, MRI findings and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) results, and for comparison of the meningeal enhancement, twenty-three dogs with normal MRI, normal CSF and no clinical sign were included in the control group. The evaluated MRI findings included lesion site, lesion number, signal intensity of each MRI sequence, mass effect, perilesional edema, contrast enhancement, and meningeal enhancement. The MUE was most frequently associated with multiple lesions (50%) with perilesional edema (72%) in forebrain (66%) that were hyperintense (92%) in T2W and FLAIR images. Of the meningeal enhancement, there was no significant difference between the control group and the MUE groups in the pachymeningeal enhancement. However, leptomeningeal (or both) enhancement was found relatively high proportion in the MUE group than in the control group (P < 0.001, Odd ratio = 10.26), and based on this result, leptomeningeal (or both) enhancement is considered to be significant finding for indicating MUE.

  • The synamic systrm emplohing the self-squared function, , $f(Z)=z^2+c$, provides the Mandelbrot set which classifies constants c using the divergence of the sequence starting from the origin. To speed-up the generation of Mandelbrot set images, two approaches , called as the divide-and-conquer technique and the triangular boundary tracing technique, have been developed. However , the divede-and-conquer technique genrates sequences of some pixels that so not affect graphical representations of the Mandelbrot set.The triangular boundary tracing tech-mique does noot represent some 8-connected components of the Mandelbrost set.In this paper, we prorose a new ;method which solves the 8-connectivity problem of triangular boundary tracing technique. This algorithm considers the divergence for only pixels which are essential to the graphical repressentation of the Mandelbrot set.It also foves good representations for 8-connected components like hairly structures.

  • For image processing hardware, including a face detecting engine, efficient constitution of external and internal memories is a consequential point because huge memory is required to store various signal processing filters and incoming images. In this paper, we modified a face detect algerian of a general filter method for efficient hardware design. In the hardware, several memory design techniques are presented for efficient handling of image data : re-accessing avoidance with minimized internal memory usage, residing frequently accessed memory and sequence memory accessing. The hardware which can process 25 frame image data per one second with 40KB internal memory was verified by using ARM(S3C2440A) and Virtex4 FPGA and it is being fabricated as a ASIC chip using Samsung CMOS 0.18um technology.

  • The surface parameters associated with the land are usually dependent on the climate, and many physical processes that are displayed in the image sensed from the land then exhibit temporal variation with seasonal periodicity. An adaptive feedback system proposed in this study reconstructs a sequence of images remotely sensed from the land surface having the physical processes with seasonal periodicity. The harmonic model is used to track seasonal variation through time, and a Gibbs random field (GRF) is used to represent the spatial dependency of digital image processes. In this study, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was computed for one week composites of the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) imagery over the Korean peninsula for 1996 and 2000 using a dynamic technique, and the adaptive reconstruction of harmonic model was then applied to the NDVI time series for tracking changes on the ground surface. The results show that the adaptive approach is potentially very effective for continuously monitoring changes on near-real time.

  • In this paper we realized a system, if a user selects the area of the important parts or the arrangement parts when he reads the books or the papers, which amends, stores and readjusts the characters that are included in the selected area by outputting the characters to the word processor in sequence. If a user selects what he wishes lot with his finger, the system detects the movement of the finger by applying the hand recognition algorithm and recognizes the selected area. The system converts the distance of the width and the length of the selected area to the number of the pulse, and controls the motor to move the camera at the position. After the system scales up/down the zoom to be able to recognize the character and controls the focus to the regulated zoom closely, it controls the focus in detail to get more distinct image by using the difference of the light and darkness. We realize the recognition and editing support system of korean language that converts the obtained images to the document by applying the character recognition algorithm and arrange the important parts.

  • The tourism sites and attractions of South Korea in many ways have little specialties in their image due to the local development plan's uniformed way of designing and improving landscape. The lack of specialties in tourist sites and attractions have caused displeasure from the local residents, as the sites don't characterize the locals as attractively and appealingly as is the potential. There have been no research or studies on the scenic effect on tourism or resort development thus producing an urgent call for local authorities to develop planned landscapes of local sites. This study compares Bugok Onchon (hot spring), whose image hardly differentiates itself from the others, with Kinosaki Onsen (hot spring). Bugok Hot Spring, which is the case study of this report, has recorded a steady decline of visitors due to a result of uniformed development planning. In the case of Kinosaki Hot Spring, scenery development, however, has made a breakthrough in tourist increase despite its no-so-easily-accessible location. The study assumes that scenery effects changes in promoting local tourism, thus analyzing and comparing the two hot springs to unearth critical factors in tourist site development, as well as viewing the present state of Bugok Hot Spring for further study. Furthermore, the study provides tourist site developers with a guideline of the two comparative Hot Spring cases. Investigations and analyses are mainly focused on colors, which are important factors in making underlying images of tourist sites, and the comparison of Bugok Hot Spring with Kinosaki Hot Suing. Bugok Hot Spring shows the influences of accent colors as well as a variety of color combinations and similarities of color tones. Kinosaki Hot Spring shows a combination of naturally-generated colors its own scenic beauty by trimming the landscape. Through the comparative study of the two hot springs, Bugok (boulevard) uncovers a typical case of Korean local landscape planning, even with the well-known tourist attraction 'Bugok-Hawaii', and calls upon a new, serious landscape-improvement plan to increase visitors.

  • Shape from focus (SFF) is a technique used to reconstruct 3D shape of objects from a sequence of images obtained at different focus settings of the lens. In this paper, a new shape from focus method for 3D reconstruction of microscopic objects is described, which is based on gradient operator in Mathematical Morphology. Conventionally, in SFF methods, a single focus measure is used for measuring the focus quality. Due to the complex shape and texture of microscopic objects, single measure based operators are not sufficient, so we propose morphological operators with multi-structuring elements for computing the focus values. Finally, an optimal focus measure is obtained by combining the response of all focus measures. The experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm has provided more accurate depth maps than the existing methods in terms of three-dimensional shape recovery.

  • Atomic force microscope (AFM) has become a common tool for the structural and physical studies of biological macromolecules, mainly because it provides the ability to perform experiments with samples in a buffer solution. In this study, structure of proteins and nucleic acids has been studied in their physiological environment that allows native intermolecular complexes to be formed. Cr and Au were deposited on p-Si (100) substrate by thermal evaporation method in sequence with the thickness of $200{\AA}$ and $500{\AA}$, respectively, since Au is adequate for immobilizing biomolecules by forming a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) with semiconductor-based biosensors. The SAM, streptavidin and biotin interacted each other with their specific binding energy and their adsorption was analyzed using the Bio-AFM both in a solution and under air environment. A silicon nitride tip was used as a contact tip of Bio-AFM measurement in a solution and an antimony doped silicon tip as a tapping tip under air environment. Actual morphology could also be obtained by 3-dimensional AFM images. The length and agglomerate size of biomolecules was measured in stages. Furthermore, $R_{a}$ (average of surface roughness) and $R_{ms}$ (mean square of surface roughness) and surface density for the adsorbed surface were also calculated from the AFM image.
