The flow around a rotating circular cylinder near a plane wall is investigated by the measurement of the lift acting on the cylinder and by the flow visualization using the hydrogen bubble technique in the circulating water tank. The experimental parameters are the rotating direction of the cylinder, the space ratios H/D$(H/D=0.05\sim0.5)$ between cylinder and plane wall and the velocity ratios $\alpha(\alpha=0\sim{\pm}2.0)$. In the case of clockwise, the lift on the rotating circular cylinder was increased with the reduction of the space ratios and with the velocity ratios, the upper separation point was more shifted in the rotating direction with them. In the case of anticlockwise, the absolute value of the lift on the rotating circular cylinder was increased with the space ratios and with the velocity ratios, the lower separation point was more shifted in the rotating direction with them.

The aim of this paper was to examine the continuous and discontinuous contact problems between the functionally graded (FG) layer pressed with a uniformly distributed load and homogeneous half plane using an analytical method and FEM. The FG layer is made of non-homogeneous material with an isotropic stress-strain law with exponentially varying properties. It is assumed that the contact at the FG layer-half plane interface is frictionless, and only the normal tractions can be transmitted along the contacted regions. The body force of the FG layer is considered in the study. The FG layer was positioned on the homogeneous half plane without any bonds. Thus, if the external load was smaller than a certain critical value, the contact between the FG layer and half plane would be continuous. However, when the external load exceeded the critical value, there was a separation between the FG layer and half plane on the finite region, as discontinuous contact. Therefore, there have been some steps taken in this study. Firstly, an analytical solution for continuous and discontinuous contact cases of the problem has been realized using the theory of elasticity and Fourier integral transform techniques. Then, the problem modeled and two-dimensional analysis was carried out by using ANSYS package program based on FEM. Numerical results for initial separation distance and contact stress distributions between the FG layer and homogeneous half plane for continuous contact case; the start and end points of separation and contact stress distributions between the FG layer and homogeneous half plane for discontinuous contact case were provided for various dimensionless quantities including material inhomogeneity, distributed load width, the shear module ratio and load factor for both methods. The results obtained using FEM were compared with the results found using analytical formulation. It was found that the results obtained from analytical formulation were in perfect agreement with the FEM study.

In this paper, we propose a method to apply the polynomial fitting for regional-residual separation of microgravity data based on the characteristics of gravity anomaly without a prior information. Since the microgravity survey is usually carried out in small regions, it is common to approximate regional anomaly by the first-order polynomial plane. However, if the regional anomaly patterns are difficult to be approximated to a first-order plane, the complete gravity anomaly is divided into small zones enough to approximate first-order plane by means of Parasnis density estimation method. The regional-residual separation is then applied on the splitted zones individually. When the gravity anomalies can be splitted spatially, we showed that the residual anomalies can be more effectively extracted based on the regional geological structures by regional anomaly separation from each of the divided regions, rather than applying the entire data set at one time.
In this paper, we propose an effective cut generation method based on the Chvatal-Gomory procedure for a variable-capacity (0,l)-Knapsack problem with two general integer variables. We first derive a class of valid inequalities for the problem using Chvatal-Gomory procedure, then analyze the associated separation problem. Based on the results, we show that there exists a pseudo-polynomial time algorithm to solve the separation problem. By analyzing the theoretical strength of the inequalities which can be generated by the proposed cut generation method, we show that generated inequalties define facets under mild conditions. We also extend the result to the case in which a nontrivial upper bound is imposed on a general integer variable.

In this study, we proposed a nylon wire cutting-type solar panel separation mechanism for CubeSat applications using spring-loaded pogo-pins, which has been widely used as temporary electrical interface between two separate electronics. The mechanism proposed in this study has great advantages of higher holding capability, ability to constrain along in-plane and out-of-plane directions of solar panels, simplicity in tightening of nylon wire and synchronous separation of multiple panels. In addition, the pogo-pins used for the proposed mechanism act as electrical power interface, separation status switch and separation spring. In this study, the functionality of the proposed mechanism was validated through the separation tests with various number of nylon wire windings.

We investigate the triboelectrostatic separation of polyvinylchloride (PVC) from mixed plastics in the laboratory scale triboelectrostatic separation system. The flow and electric fields in the precipitator are obtained from the numerical solution of finite volume method. Using these flow and electric fields, we solved the particle motion equation considering the inertia, drag, gravity and electrostatic forces acted on the particles. The particle trajectories are obtained using a Lagrangian method as a function of different important variables such as Reynolds number, Stokes number, electrostatic force, electric charge and electric field distribution, inclined angle of plane electrodes, particle rebounding, particle charge decay rate after impact on the electrode surface, etc., in order to determine the optimal design conditions. The present predicted results for the cumulative yield represent well the experimental ones.

Animation understanding and time-resolved analysis of the wake characteristic of 2-D sharp plane flows were executed by applying the multi-vision PIV to a sharp plane(three angle of attacks : $15^{\circ}, \; 30^{\circ}, \; 45^{\circ}$) submerged within a circulating water channel($Re = 2{\times}10^4$). The macroscopic shedding patterns were discussed in terms of instantaneous velocity, vorticity, velocity profile, kinetic energy, turbulent intensity, frequency analysis. Particularly, the time-averaged distribution of turbulent intensity in each experimental cases revealed separate island-like small regions magnitude of turbulent intensity was always strengthened.

The shock separation test simulates the environmental effects of the spacecraft separation from launch vehicle. The shock separation test for a structural model of KOMPSAT-Ⅱ(Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite Ⅱ) was performed in SITC(Satellite Integration & Test Center) launch environmental test hall at KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) to verify the shock test requirement of the spacecraft, to predict the induced acceleration responses on the primary structures and payloads by the explosion of pyre-lock and to perform mechanical fit check. The spacecraft with S/A was mated vertically to LV(Launch Vehicle) adapter simulator via a clamp band, then hoisted and suspended above a foam test bed by four isolation springs secured to the spacecraft hoist fittings to isolate the payload platform shock wave from the sling elements. For separation process, real pyre-devices were used and the time response signals from 60 accelerometers installed on the interested points was acquired and recorded. The SRS responses for each response channels were calculated and the achieved SRS's on the separation plane was reviewed and evaluated in comparison to the ICD(Interface Control Document) value.

The in-plane vibration response of a clamped circular plate should be predicted in many applications. Up to now, papers on the in-plane vibration of rectangular plate are published. However, analytical derivation on the in-plane vibration of the clamped circular plate is not carried out. Therefore, the in-plane vibration of the clamped circular plate is the concern of this paper. In order to derive the equations of motion for the clamped circular plate in the cylindrical coordinate, the kinetic energy and potential energy for the in-plane behavior are obtained by us ing the stress-strain-displacement expressions. Application of Hamilton's principle leads to two sets of differential equations. These displacement equations were highly coupled. It is possible to obtain a simpler set of equations by introducing Helmholtz decomposition. Substituting them into the coupled differential equations, we obtain the uncoupled equations of motion. In order to solve them, we assume that the solutions are harmonic. Then, they lead to the wave equations. Using the separation of variable, we obtain the general solutions for the equations. Based on the solutions, the displacements for r and $\theta$ direction are assumed. Finally we obtain the frequency equation for the clamped circular plate by the application of boundary conditions. The derived equation is compared with the finite element analysis for validation by using the some numerical examples.
