According to 'Metropolitan Traffic Network Plan' announced in 2001, radial railways which connect Seoul with satellite cities around Seoul appear gradually. And followed by this, social demand for circular metropolitan railways that can connect the radial railways horizontally is increasing. But existing plans about circular metropolitan railways has limits to propose only passing cities of the railways. If there is no detailed guideline for circular metropolitan railways, the each railway for circular line will be constructed individually and then it will be not effective circular railways totally. Additionally that railway project will be easily interrupted by popular complaints. Therefore "The basic plan for circular metropolitan railways" is needful to guide a right direction for circular metropolitan railways. In this paper, rough track diagram of 'node' station for circular metropolitan railways is proposed. It is essential part of the basic plan. If the track diagram of a node is publicized in advance and individually lines of circular metropolitan railways is enforced to followed it, all lines will has rich circular functionality. Finally, effective circular metropolitan railways can be built.

Nowadays, becoming wide area is going on over Seoul Metropolitan area. But urban railway, very important traffic facilities, is operated in normal operating position and it gives cause to week the function of commuting long distance. This paper is focus on studying the feasibility of rapid operation system in Seoul Metropolitan area through comparing the present state of urban railway in Seoul Metropolitan area with a case of the advanced facilities in developed country. And we develop rapid operation system in general aspect through only consideration of operation planning without improvement of facilities. Also, we come up with new concept of rapid operation system through investigation of limits of the preceding researches

Reliability means that a product maintains its initial quality and performance at a certain period of time (time, distance, cycle etc) under given condition without failure. The given conditions include both environmental condition and operating condition. Environmental condition means a common natural environment such as temperature, humidity, vibration, and working condition means an artificial environment such as voltage, current load, place for installment, and hours of use, which occurs during the life of the product. In the field of railway vehicles, it is mandatory to use a part with the proved reliability as the extension of the life of vehicle become highly necessary. But the reliable assessment method for the reliability of the part is insufficient. If the reliability of the railway vehicle parts could be assessed by using the field data, the reliability of the entire system could also be evaluated reliably. In this study, life span of micro-switch for master controller is analyzed and prediction is performed based on its field data given by an operator considering the special circumstances of railway vehicles such as the operation of a large number of trains on the same line.

The KTX has been launched one month ago and people can travel much faster and further. There are two opinions which are the dispersion and the concentration of metropolitan population. These contrary opinions were disputed against each other before launching KTX. The phenomena of metropolitan population concentration socially made many problems as it was already pointed out on many papers. So accurate prediction is very important. Thus, this study will predict how KTX will affect the dispersion of metropolitan population focused on highly populated Seoul-Pusan Railway. It will achieved by comparing and analysing foreign cases.

Although Gyeonggi-do is the core area which has a quarter of the population of Korea, it has poor railway network and then it have got serious traffic problem. So in this paper, it is introduced the improving methods of railways on Gyeonggi-do. In first, it was showed a fast and effective railway route implementation according to the characteristics with the similar population but the 17 times bigger area than that of Seoul. And it was explained multipurpose using method of the railways of Gyeonggi-do whit subway, commuter, express and high speed train etc. Finally unlike Seoul subway focusing on approachability, it was proposed 'express train paradigm' focusing on implementing the high movability which railways of Gyeonggi-do must have. So with 'Bundang-line' metropolitan railway, the case study in applying to southern metropolitan area with those suggestion was showed.

Since 1974, the first subway is constructed in Seoul metropolitan area, from 1985 country metropolitan subways have been built. But most country metropolitan subways cannot reach the goal of transportation sharing ratio and show a loss. In this paper, I investigate the issues of country metropolitan subways and present the methods to improve them focusing on strengthening transit network. At first, it is introduced that the method can complement incomplete network from insufficient subway lines. And I propose the consolidation method using KORAIL railway lines. Finally, the connecting method into subway missing area is presented with various transit systems like BRT, Guideway Bus and single railway line extension.

This paper aims to suggest the feasibility of rapid operation scheme generated in preceding study, 'A study on development of operation planning for rapid service in urban railway(An introduction)' through application it to present subway lines in Seoul Metropolitan area. In case of line 3, without the Passing Track 'Turning train outstrip mode' is the best policy. In case of line 4, with the Passing Trank 'Passing track mode' may be the best way to realize the this scheme. Also, there is feasibility in the line 1, line 5, line 6, line 7 but there is no possibility it is applied to line 2 and line 8. In conclusion, this paper is intend to suggest the possibility of rapid operation in urban railway by presenting real operation scheme, time tables and amount of power usage and the number of composing trains and variety of demand,

Now, the population and economical power is deeply concentrated to Seoul-metropolitan region, therefoere the provinces is so lagging behind and the country cannot get balance development. And, like metropolitan region, the more outer the living area of local wide-area city is spreading, the more serious wide-region transportation problems are. But the railroads near wide-area city fun seldom commuter train, so they cannot absorb the transportation demand of wide-area city metropolitan region. To solve above transportation problem, local wide- area cities try to make a subway or a light rail transit. But it is so difficult because the limit of public finance and original small capacity of light rail. In the paper, I propose 'Local city wide-area electric railways' system of the consortium of 'Local wide-city and province transportation union', Korean National Railroad (KNR) and local capital. A 'Local wide-city and province transportation union' operates commuter railways directly using the facilities of KNR, and local capital invests to the stations of above railways system. Therefore the commuter railway system around local wide-city region will be constructed quickly and the stations will be the strong point of local development and investment.

기존 수도권 광역철도는 운행시간이 많이 걸리는 완행 위주의 운행을 하기 때문에 통행시간 측면에서 타 교통수단과의 경쟁력이 저하되고 있는 실정이고, 도로교통을 철도로 유인하는데 한계가 있기 때문에 급행열차 운행을 확대 운영해야 한다는 사회적 요구가 지속되고 있다. 특히 수도권 북부와 수도권 남서부 방면은 대도시 생활권 확대로 광역교통수요 증대에 따른 교통 혼잡 가중 및 통행시간 증가 등 사회적 비용이 과다 발생되고 있어 서울도심을 연결하는 급행 기능의 대중교통망체계가 필요하다. 국내에서 가장 효율적으로 급행화를 운행하는 노선은 서울지하철 9호선이며, 김포공항에서 고속터미널까지 27분 소요됨으로써 완행 44분 대비 약 40% 시간 단축 효과가 있고 혼잡도가 최대 240%에 달할 만큼 이용객의 선호도가 상당히 높다. 본 연구의 기술적 결과들은 광역철도의 급행화 방안의 수행을 위해 기여할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

본 연구는 수도권 전철 역명에 관한 일반 현황 분석을 바탕으로 전철 역명의 지명학적 특성을 파악하는 것이 목적이며, 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 2009년 말 현재 운영 중인 전철역은 508개이며, 환승역은 61개이고, 병기역명을 사용하는 역은 91개이다. 두 글자 역명이 61.99%로 가장 많으며, 세 글자 역명이 20.59%를 차지하고 있다. 역명으로 사용된 지명 유형별로는 행정지명이 가장 많은데, 그 중에서도 동명이 압도적으로 많다. 인문지명 중에서는 시설 명이 가장 많았고, 자연지명 중에는 산명이 가장 많았다.
