A 75-year-old man with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) underwent F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT for staging. PET/CT showed distant metastases to intra-abdominal lymph nodes (LNs) as well as bilateral mediastinal LNs (stage IV), He underwent PET/CT (restaging PET/CT) 1week after the completion of first-line chemotherapy (docetaxel+carboplatin). It showed markedly increased FDG uptake in primary tumor, whereas tumor size decreased significantly, compared to prior PET/CT. This lesion was aggravated on follow-up CT 3 months after the completion of chemotherapy. Although there are several reports that FDG PET has potential to evaluate early response to chemotherapy and prognosis, there are a few cases to show mismatch between FDG uptake and size on PET/CT. Thus we report a case of NSCLC showed increased FDG uptake of primary tumor while decreased tumor size on restaging PET/CT.

Ectopic thyroid is not common disease and double ectopic thyroid is rare. Until January of 2008, dual ectopic thyroid has been reported only 23 cases in international literatures. Tc-99m sodium pertechnetate scan is playing an important role in the diagnosis of ectopic thyroid. In most of the cases, dual lingual thyroid tissues could be detected as two radiotracer uptake foci. We report a case of dual lingual thyroid mimicking mono-lingual thyroid in the anterior view of thyroid scan. Lateral view helped in this case to detect the dual lingual thyroid. With lateral view, the anatomical position and relationship could be examined in more detail.

Herba Patriniae(HP) has been known to exert anti-tumoral activity in Korea. However, its molecular mechanism, of action is not understood. In this study, we found that HP induced apoptosis in androgen-dependent prostate cancer DU145 cells as evidenced by DNA fragmentation and chromatine condensation in hoechst dye staining. Our data demonstrated that HP-induced apoptotic cell death was accompanied by activation of caspase-3 and cleavages of its substrates, poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase(PARP) in a time- and concentration-dependent manner. Taken together, these results suggest that HP induces the activation of caspase-3, degradation of PARP, and eventually leads to apoptotic cell death.

Otitis media with effusion is known to be very common among children with cleft palate and is the common cause of acquired hearing loss in childhood. The purpose of the present study was to examine the anatomic variances, incidence and treatment of middle ear disease in children with cleft palate. In Korea, before 4-year-old age, the prevalence of otitis media was as high as 91.7%. Common treatments for otitis media were conservative or surgical treatment. The medical treatment options include the use of decongestants, antihistamines, antibiotics and mucolytics. Surgical treatment options include grommet insertion, myringotomy. Unlike the case for children without clefts, cleft patient has a higher incidence of recurrence, so surgical treatment between the age of 3 month and 6 month was recommended. The effect of palatoplasty on middle ear disease has remained controversial. Early and periodic evaluation on the symptomatic infection or significant of hearing loss was recommended.

Signet ring cell carcinoma has been previously described in many organs, most frequently in the stomach, and rarely in the colon, rectum, gallbladder, pancreas, breast, nadsal cavity, prostate, urinary bladder and ureter. Signet ring cell carcinomas in the lung, especially, when examined by small biopsies, are generally believed to be metastatic. This case was diagnosed by bronchoscopic biopsy. We also examined various organs by noninvasive method, including UGI series, barium enema and abdomen CT scan, but all studies were nomal. Patient received cisplatin and etoposide combination chemotherapy followed by local radiotherapy as a primary non-small cell lung cancer. Patient died of his disease 6 months after diagnosis. Now we report a case of primary signet ring cell carcinoma of the lung.

Background: We aimed to investigate the prevalence of low back pain (LBP) and its associated agricultural work-related, biomechanical factors among this population. Methods: We analyzed initial survey data from the Safety for Agricultural Injury of Farmers cohort study involving adult farmers in Jeju Island. The prevalence of LBP was calculated with associated factors. Results: In total, 1,209 participants were included in the analysis. The overall prevalence of LBP was 23.7%. Significant associations for LBP were the type of farming activity, length of farming career, prior agricultural injury within 1 year, and stress levels. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed three biomechanical factors significantly related to LBP: repetitive use of particular body parts; the inappropriate posture of the lower back and neck. Conclusions: Some occupational, and biomechanical risk factors contribute to LBP. Therefore, postural education, injury prevention education, and psychological support will be needed to prevent LBP.

Background: Contralateral pulmonary resection after pneumonectomy presents considerable challenges, and few reports in the literature have described this procedure. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all patients who underwent contralateral lung resection following pneumonectomy for any reason at our institution between November 1994 and December 2020. Results: Thirteen patients (9 men and 4 women) were included in this study. The median age was 57 years (range, 35-77 years), and the median preoperative forced expiratory volume in 1 second was 1.64 L (range, 1.17-2.12 L). Contralateral pulmonary resection was performed at a median interval of 44 months after pneumonectomy (range, 6-564 months). Surgical procedures varied among the patients: 10 underwent single wedge resection, 2 were treated with double wedge resection, and 1 underwent lobectomy. Diagnoses at the time of contralateral lung resection included lung cancer in 7 patients, lung metastasis from other cancers in 3 patients, and tuberculosis in 3 patients. Complications were observed in 4 patients (36%), including acute kidney injury, pneumothorax following chest tube removal, pneumonia, and prolonged air leak. No cases of operative mortality were noted. Conclusion: In carefully selected patients, contralateral pulmonary resection after pneumonectomy can be accomplished with acceptable operative morbidity and mortality.

In this study, quantitative nitric oxide concentration distributions are investigated in the laminar non-premixed $H_2/N_2$ flames by laser-induced fluorescence (LIF). The measurements are taken in flames for different $N_2$ dilution ratios varying from 20~80%, and fuel flow rate is fixed as Islpm. The NO A-X (0,0) vibrational band around 226 nm is excited using a XeCl excimer-pumped dye laser. We applied same excitation line used in $CH_4$, premixed flame. Overall, NO concentration was rapidly decreased with Na addition and we could not measure the concentration any longer for $N_2$ dilution above 80%.

We report a Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI)-based multi-channel micro-spectrometer used for multi-gas measurement in the spectral range of $3-5{\mu}m$ and its gas sensing performance. The fabricated infrared (IR) spectrometer consists of two parts: an FPI on the top side for selective IR filtering and a $V_2O_5$-based IR detector array on the bottom side for the detection of the filtered IR. Experimental results show that the FPI-based multi-channel gas sensor has reliability and selectivity for simultaneously detecting environmentally harmful gases such as $CH_4$, $CO_2$, $N_2O$ and CO in the spectral range of $3-5{\mu}m$. The fabricated FPI-based multi-channel gas sensor also demonstrated that a reliable and selective detection of gas concentrations ranging from 0 to 500 ppm is feasible. In addition, the electrical characteristics demonstrate a superior response performance in regards to the selectivity in the multi-target gases.

Potential application topics of KOMPSAT-3 image in the field of precision agriculture are suggested. The topics can be categorized as fundamental and applied ones that have contents of static and dynamic characteristics respectively. As fundamental topics, precision information of agriculture that is related to farmland and its crop attributes, precision information of rural infrastructure that is related to rural village and its facilities, precision information of stream environment that is related to rural water resources and its facilities, and precision information of eco-environment that is especially related to riparian ecology and environmental status are included. As applied topics, precision rural water resources that has thematic contents of continuous and event-based runoff, spatial and temporal soil moisture and evapotranspiration, precision agricultural watershed environment that has the contents of spatial and temporal soil loss, sediment and pollutants transport, and precision temporal and spatial crop growth that has the contents of temporal crop texture, spectral reflectance, leaf area index, spatial crop protein information.
