  • The most essential element in wireless sensor network is wireless sensor node which collects environmental information and transmits it to the user application systems. Recently, due to the technological advancement, wireless sensor nodes are become smaller, more intelligent and less power consuming. Especially, SoC(System-on-Chip) technology, which unifies the MCU, RF module, memory and other element inside one chip, plays an important part for miniaturization of sensor node, hence reduces the manufacturing expenses. In this paper, we have designed a miniaturized wireless sensor node for wireless sensor network using commercial SoC technology and discussed about some application scenario and additional considerations.

  • An indoor environmental monitoring system using IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor network is proposed to monitor the amount of pollutant entering to the room from outside and also the amount of pollutant that is generated in indoor by the building materials itself or human activities. Small-size, low-power wireless sensor node and low power electrochemical sensor board is designed to measure the condition of indoor environment in buildings such as home, offices, commercial premises and schools. In this paper, two query models, the broadcasting query protocol and flooding query protocol, were designed and programmed as a query-based routing protocol in wireless sensor network for an environment monitoring system. The flooding query routing protocol in environment monitoring is very effective as a power saving routing protocol and reliable data transmission between sensor nodes.

  • Current sensors that use a Hall element and Hall IC to measure the magnetic fields generated in steel silicon core gaps do not distinguish between direct and alternating currents. Thus, they are primarily used to measure direct current (DC) in industrial equipment. Although such sensors can measure the DC when installed in expensive equipment, ascertaining problems becomes difficult if the equipment is set up in an unexposed space. The control box is only opened during scheduled maintenance or when anomalies occur. Therefore, in this paper, a method is proposed for facilitating the safety management and maintenance of equipment when necessary, instead of waiting for anomalies or scheduled maintenance. A Bluetooth 4.0 low-energy current-sensor system based on near-field communication is used, which compensates for the nonlinearity of the current-sensor output signal using a piecewise linear model. The sensor is controlled using its generic attribute profile. Sensor nodes and cell phones used to check the signals obtained from the sensor at 50-A input currents showed an accuracy of ±1%, exhibiting linearity in all communications within the range of 0 to 50 A, with a stable output voltage for each communication segment.

  • The sensor network technology for core technology of ubiquitous computing is in the spotlight recently, the research on sensor network is proceeding actively which is composed many different sensor node. The major traffic patterns of plenty of sensor networks are composed of collecting types of single directional data, which is transmitting packets from several sensor nodes to sink node. One of the important condition for design of sensor node is to extend for network life which is to minimize power-consumption under the limited resources of sensor network. In this paper analysis used routing protocols using the network simulation that was used second level cluster structure to reduce delay and power-consumption of sensor node.

  • A sensor network system processes user queries using the recent field data collected by each sensor node. To process user queries, the system propagates the queries to the specific sensor nodes which have the relevant data and aggregates the results of the queries. However, if continuous queries are processed by the existing scheme, the system has the problem where the queries are propagated repeatedly. In this paper, we propose the query processing scheme to process the continuous queries over the sensor streaming data. To do this, each sensor node builds its own query index on its node. And, we present the scheme to deal with the unexpected data rising on the sensor node.

  • In general, wireless sensor networks composed of many nodes which are located in ad. hoc environment and send the gathered data to sink node support only one way traffic. In those cases, it is not possible to send commands to nodes to react for exceptional events because the networks can not deliver downward data and the nodes run in pre-assigned fixed schedule. This paper expands the WSLP to bidirectional WSLP and implements a fire monitoring system on it, and shows the feasibility of bidirectional USN by demonstrating the usability of the process of reaction to a fire in the implemented fire monitoring system.

  • Distributed control systems(DCS) using fieldbus such as CAN have been applied to process systems but it is very difficult to design the DCS while guaranteeing the given end-to-end constraints such as precedence constraints, time constraints, and periods and priorities of tasks and messages. This paper presents a scheduling method to guarantee the given end-to-end constraints. The presented scheduling method is the integrated one considering both tasks executed in each node and messages transmitted via the network and is designed to be applied to a general DCS that has multiple loops with several types of constraints, where each loop consists of sensor nodes with multiple sensors, actuator nodes with multiple actuators and controller nodes with multiple tasks. An assignment method of the optimal period of each loop and a heuristic assignment rule of each message's priority are proposed and the integrated scheduling method is developed based on them.

  • We consider a design of a combined quantizer and estimator for distributed systems wherein each node quantizes its measurement without any communication among the nodes and transmits it to a fusion node for estimation. Noting that the quantization partitions minimizing the estimation error are not independently encoded at nodes, we focus on the parameter regions created by the partitions and propose a cluster-based quantization algorithm that iteratively finds a given number of clusters of parameter regions with each region being closer to the corresponding codeword than to the other codewords. We introduce a new metric to determine the distance between codewords and parameter regions. We also discuss that the fusion node can perform an efficient estimation by finding the intersection of the clusters sent from the nodes. We demonstrate through experiments that the proposed design achieves a significant performance gain with a low complexity as compared to the previous designs.
