  • In this paper we suggest a hybrid MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks (WSN) to enhance network performance. The proposed MAC scheme is specifically designed for wireless sensor networks which consist of lots nodes. The contributions of this paper are: First, the proposed scheduling algorithm is independent of network topology. Even though the BS node has lots of one hop node in dense mode network, all the time slots can be assigned fully without increasing frequencies. Second, BS one hop nodes can use more than one time slots if necessary, so total network performance is increased. We compare the network performance of the proposed scheme with previous one, HyMAC [1].

  • A construction method of energy-efficient data aggregation tree is proposed by considering a tradeoff between acquisition time and energy consumption in wireless sensor networks. This proposed method constructs the data aggregation tree to minimize the link cost between the connected nodes for reducing energy consumption, while minimizing the maximum distance between sensor nodes and a sink node for rapid information gathering. Simulation results show that the proposed aggregation tree can be generated with low complexity and achieves high energy efficiency compared to conventional methods.

  • The network topology for a wide area sensor network has to support connectivity and a prolonged lifetime for the many applications used within it. The concepts of structure and group in sociology are similar to the concept of cluster in wireless sensor networks. The clustering method is one of the preferred ways to produce a topology for reduced electrical energy consumption. We herein propose a cluster topology method based on sociological structures and concepts. The proposed sociological clustering topology (SOCT) is a method that forms a network in two phases. The first phase, which from a sociological perspective is similar to forming a state within a nation, involves using nodes with large transmission capacity to set up the global area for the cluster. The second phase, which is similar to forming a city inside the state, involves using nodes with small transmission capacity to create regional clusters inside the global cluster to provide connectivity within the network. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms other methods in terms of energy efficiency and network lifetime.

  • The energy efficiency is a key design issue to improve the lifetime of the underwater sensor networks (UWSN) consisting of sensor nodes equipped with a small battery of limited energy resource. In this paper, we apply a hexagon tessellation with an ideal cell size to deploy the underwater sensor nodes for two-dimensional UWSN. Upon this setting, we propose an enhanced hybrid transmission method that forwards data packets in a mixed transmission way based on location dependent direct transmitting or uniform multi-hop forwarding. In order to select direct transmitting or uniform multi-hop forwarding, the proposed method applies the threshold annulus that is defined as the distance between the cluster head node and the base station (BS). Our simulation results show that the proposed method enhances the energy efficiency compared with the existing multi-hop forwarding methods and hybrid transmission methods

  • The proposed technique uses cyclic frame structure, where three periods such as beacon period (BP), mesh contention access period (MCAP) and slotted period (SP) are in a data frame. This paper studies on a mechanism to allow communication nodes (6lowpan) in a PAN with different logical channel for global healthcare applications monitoring technology. The proposed super framework structure system has installed 6lowpan sensor nodes to communicate with each other. The basic idea is to time share logical channels to perform 6lowpan sensor node. The concept of 6lowpan sensor node and various biomedical sensors fixed on the patient BAN (Body Area Network) for monitoring health condition. In PAN (hospital area), has fixed gateways that received biomedical data from 6lowpan (patient). Each 6lowpan sensor node (patient) has IP-addresses that would be directly connected to the internet. With the help of IP-address service provider can recognize or analyze patient data from all over the globe by the internet service provider, with specific equipments i.e. cell phone, PDA, note book. The NS-2.33 result shows the performance of data transmission delay and data delivery ratio in the case of hop count in a PAN (Personal Area Networks).

  • Wireless sensor network has been widely used in Internet of Things (IoT) applications to support large and dense networks. As sensor nodes are usually tiny and provided with limited hardware resources, the existing multiple access methods, which involve high computational complexity to preserve the protocol performance, is not available under such a scenario. In this paper, we propose an intelligent Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol selection scheme based on machine learning in wireless sensor networks. We jointly consider the impact of inherent behavior and external environments to deal with the application limitation problem of the single type MAC protocol. This scheme can benefit from the combination of the competitive protocols and non-competitive protocols, and help the network nodes to select the MAC protocol that best suits the current network condition. Extensive simulation results validate our work, and it also proven that the accuracy of the proposed MAC protocol selection strategy is higher than the existing work.

  • For many sensor network applications, minimizing the energy consumed as well as extending the network lifetime are the most important objectives to be achieved, these objectives have pushed the scientific community to propose new solutions to minimize the total energy consumed by the sensors without degrading the network performances, amongst the proposed solutions, the clustering techniques. In this work we focus on hierarchical routing protocols, more precisely clustering in wireless sensor networks. We propose an energy-efficient hierarchical routing protocol for WSNs called EEV-LEACH (Energy Efficient Vice Low Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy), which represents a new variant of the LEACH protocol. Our energy-efficient protocol aims to maximize the lifetime of the network, by minimizing the energy consumption of each sensors nodes and cluster-heads. Minimizing the wasted energy by each sensor node is achieved by minimizing the periodic selection of CHs in each round. Minimizing the periodic selection of CHs allows decreasing the association messages exchanged between the CH and the nodes, so the consumed energy and overhead are minimized. EEV-LEACH aims also to minimize the energy consumed by the cluster-heads (CHs) by using vice CHs , which will share the workload with the CHs in an alternative way. The performances of our protocol EEV-LEACH is compared to, LEACH, LEACH-S and TL-LEACH by using MATLAB simulator, the results show that EEV-LEACH protocol extend the network lifetime and it minimizes the overall overhead versus LEACH, LEACH-S and TL-LEACH protocols.

  • The properties of sensor node having a restricted energy in WSN have a difficult in various application fields to apply. Our paper proposed the cluster head selection which is an effective energy in order to manage in wireless sensor network. The proposed algorithm improves an energy efficient and is applied to various network environment considering energy capacity between cluster head and nodes and distance between cluster head and base station(sink node). By using the ns-2 simulator, we evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme in comparison with the original LEACH-C. Experimental results validate our scheme, showing a better performance than original LEACH-C in terms of the number of outliving nodes and the quantity of energy consumption as time evolves.

  • There are lots of vulnerability and chance to be attacked in wireless sensor networks, which has many applications. Among those attacks, sybil attack is to generate a lot of false node and to inject false information into networks. When a user uses such false information without recognizing the attack, there might be a disaster. Although authentication method can be used to protect such attack, the method is not a good choice in wireless sensor networks, where sensor nodes have a limited battery and low power. In this paper, we propose a novel method to detect sybil attack with a little extra overhead. The proposed method use the characteristics that there is a weak connection between a group of normal nodes and a group of false nodes. In addition, the method uses energy aware routing based on random routing and adds a little information into the routing. Experimental results show that the proposed method detects false node by more than 90% probability with a little energy overhead.

  • In Solar-powered wireless sensor networks(SP-WSN), the battery is periodically charged, so the best use of harvested energy is more important, rather than minimizing energy consumption. Meanwhile, as is well known, the reliability of communication between sensor nodes is very limited due to the resource-constraint of sensor nodes. In this paper, we propose an advanced FEC (forward error correction) scheme which can give SP-WSN more reliability for communication. Firstly, the proposed scheme uses energy modeling to calculate the amount of surplus energy which can be utilized for extra operations, and then determines the number of additional parity bits according to this amount of surplus energy. At the same time, link quality modeling calculates the optimal parity bits for error recovery in the current data communication environment. Finally, by considering these two parity sizes, it is possible to determine the optimal parity size that can maximize the data reliability without affecting the node black out. Performance verification was performed by comparing the amount of data collected at the sink and the number of outage nodes with other schemes.
