  • In this thesis, the development and the verification of the test-aid are described, providing various attitude errors through the electric stimulus to the Sun sensor. This test-aid for 2-axis analogue Sun sensor is used for polarity test in the assembly stage for GK2 satellite. The test-aid used for GK2 satellite is for COMS satellite and, due to the failure risk, manufactured by domestic company. The characteristics of the COMS test-aid used for GK2 satellite and the manufactured test-aid are showed with similar through the several tests. In this thesis, there are conformed the capability for replacing of test-aid because the characteristics of the manufactured test-aid is acquired same as that of the COMS test-aid using the controller tuning functions.

  • This paper proposes a novel complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) active pixel sensor (APS) and presents its performance characteristics. The proposed APS exhibits a linear-logarithmic response, which is simulated using a standard $0.35-{\mu}m$ CMOS process. To maintain high sensitivity and improve the dynamic range (DR) of the proposed APS at low and high-intensity light, respectively, two additional nMOSFETs are integrated into the structure of the proposed APS, along with a photogate. The applied photogate voltage reduces the sensitivity of the proposed APS in the linear response regime. Thus, the conversion gain of the proposed APS changes from high to low owing to the addition of the capacitance of the photogate to that of the sensing node. Under high-intensity light, the integrated MOSFETs serve as voltage-light dependent active loads and are responsible for logarithmic compression. The DR of the proposed APS can be improved on the basis of the logarithmic response. Furthermore, the reference voltages enable the tuning of the sensitivity of the photodetector, as well as the DR of the APS.

  • Due to the application-specific nature of wireless sensor networks, the sensitivity to such a requirement as data reporting interval varies according to the type of application. Such considerations require an application-specific, parameter tuning paradigm allowing us to maximize energy conservation prolonging the operational network lifetime. In this paper, we propose a reporting interval adaptive, sensor control platform for energy-saving data gathering in wireless sensor networks. The ultimate goal is to extend the network lifetime by providing sensors with high adaptability to application-dependent or time-varying, reporting interval requirements. The proposed sensor control platform is based upon a two phase clustering (TPC) scheme which constructs two types of links within each cluster - namely, direct link and relay link. The direct links are used for control and time-critical, sensed data forwarding while the relay links are used only for multi-hop data reporting. Sensors opportunistically use the energy-saving relay link depending on the user reporting, interval constraint. We present factors that should be considered in deciding the total number of relay links and how sensors are scheduled for sensed data forwarding within a cluster for a given reporting interval and link quality. Simulation and implementation studies demonstrate that the proposed sensor control platform can help individual sensors save a significant amount of energy in reporting data, particularly in dense sensor networks. Such saving can be realized by the adaptability of the sensor to the reporting interval requirements.

  • Sensor readings always have a certain degree of randomness and fuzziness due to its intrinsic property, other electronic devices in the circuitry, wires and the rapidly changing environment. In an electrical control system, such readings will bring instability in the system and other undesired events especially if the signal hovers around the threshold. This paper proposes a Gaussian-based statistical approach in stabilizing the output through sampling the sensor data and automatic tuning the threshold to the range of multiple standard deviations. It takes advantage of the Central limit theorem and its properties assuming that a large number of sensor data samples will eventually converge to a Gaussian distribution. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in completely stabilizing the outputs over known filtering algorithms like Exponential smoothing and Kalman Filter.

  • This paper presents two control algorithms for the frequency and amplitude of the resonator of a micro sensor. One algorithm excites the resonator at its a priori unknown resonant frequency, and the other algorithm alters the resonator dynamics to place the resonant frequency at a fixed frequency, chosen by the designer. Both algorithms maintain a specified amplitude of oscillations. The control system behavior is analyzed using an averaging method, and a quantitative criterion is provided for the selecting the control gain to achieve stability. Tracking and estimation accuracy of the natural frequency under the presence of measurement noise is also analyzed. The proposed control algorithms are applied to the MEMS dual-mass gyroscope without mechanical connecting beam between two proof-masses. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithms which guarantee the proof-masses of the gyroscope to move in opposite directions with the same resonant frequency and oscillation amplitude.

  • Generally, The position of mobile robot moving on the plane is measured by the method of dead reckoning, using the encoder system coupled on a wheel axis. But it is noted that the encoder system cannot check the slip of a wheel, often occurring in tracking of the mobile robot. In this study, using velocity angular velocity sensor with a tuning fork vibration system, the system is developed which can measure the directional angle of positional variables on the mobile robot. By measuring the variations of tracking direction mobile robot equipped with this system, following result is found; In spite of the slip at a wheel when measuring the tracking directional angle, the error occurs in the range of .+-. 1 (degree).

  • We developed a fiber-optic Bragg grating sensor system using a SOA fiber laser for over heat detection in power systems. To compensate the nonlinear wavelength tuning of the fiber laser, we used fixed passband wavelengths from Fabry-Perot ITU filter as reference wavelengths. Gaussian line-fitting algorithm was also used to reduce the FBG peak detection error. Compared with a highest-peak-detection and a polynomial-fitting method, the proposed Gaussian fitting algorithm could drastically reduce the measurement errors. Also the SOA fiber laser made it possible to enhance the signal-to-noise-ratio even with several kilometers of lead fiber.

  • This paper describes a method aimed at improving dead-reckoning accuracy with gyroscopes in mobile robots. The method is a precision calibration procedure for gyroscopes, which effectively reduces the ill effects of nonlinearity of the scale-factor and temperature dependency. This paper also describes the methods of gyro data collection fur all ambient temperature$(-40^{\circ}C{\~}+80^{\circ}C)$ using cubic spline interpolation and defining the error function. The sensor used was a vibrating gyroscope called the EWTS82NA21, which is low lost and commonly used in car navigation system, made by Panasonic. This angular rate sensor utilizes Coriolis force generated by a vibrating tuning fork. The paper also provides experimental results to check the performance and the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In deeply scaled CMOS technologies, two major non-ideal factors are threatening the survival of the CMOS; i) PVT (process, voltage, and temperature) variations and ii) leakage power consumption. In this paper, we propose a novel post-silicon tuning methodology to scale optimum voltage and frequency "dynamically". The proposed design technique will use our PVT sensor circuits to monitor the variations and based on the monitored variation data, voltage and frequency will be compensated "automatically". During the compensation process, supply voltage is dynamically adjusted to guarantee the minimum total power consumption without violating the frequency requirement. The simulation results show that the proposed technique can reduce the total power by 85% and the static power by 53% on average for the selected ISCAS'85 benchmark circuits with 45 nm CMOS technology compared to the results of the traditional PVT compensation method.
