  • To make high speed spindle system work properly, sensors with outstanding resolution and dynamic characteristics are essential. An optical fiber displacement sensor is based on simple principles. Electrical signal responds to the optical flux change due to the displacement change between a target and a sensor probe. In this paper, the performance of optical fiber displacement sensor has been investigated according to properties of optical fiber Firstly, optical loss has been measured before and after polishing optical fiber endface. Secondly, allowance of optical fiber bending has been tested. thirdly sensitivity and linear range of the sensor has been found out according to the shape of cross section of optical fiber.

  • A magnetic levitation control system is nonlinear and very unstable. Thus there should be a stabilizing compensation network and a feedback path. Due to the levitation control a noncontact photoresistor sensor is generally used. One photocell provides a certain amount of variation in length by the ball shadow casted on the cell surface. Furthermore at the boundary of the cell, the linearity of sensitivity deteriorates severely. To overcome the constraints of the length and linearity, an efficient sensor array is deviced and applied in the feedback path of a large-gap magnetic levitation control system. A number of CdS photocells and a summing circuit of the sensor output signals are used for a sensor array. The levitation length of a ball and the transient performances are main objectives of the large-gap suspension system using the sensor array.

  • The magnetic field sensor was fabricated with superconducting ceramics of YBaCuO system. The sensor at liquid nitrogen temperature showed the increase of electrical resistance by applying magnetic field. Actually the voltage drop across the sensor was changed from zero to a value more than 100 $mutextrm{V}$ by the applied magnetic field. The change in electrical resistance depended on magnetic field. The sensitivity of this sensor was 2.9 $\Omega$/T. The sensing limit was about $1.5\times$10$^{-5}$. The increase of electrical resistance by the magnetic field was ascribed to a modification of the Josephson junctions due to the penetrating magnetic flux into the superconducting material. Considering the observed properties of the superconductor with trapped magnetic flux, a magnetic sensor was fabricated to detect simultaneously both the intensity and the direction of the magnetic field.

  • A laboratory sensor model was designed, constructed, and tested based on a newly proposed working principle of magnetic field detection. The principle of sensing employed a time-coded method in correlation with exploiting the advantageous features of the GMI effect. The sensor demonstrated a sensitivity of $10\;{\mu}s/{\mu}T$ in the field range of ${\pm}100\;{\mu}T$. The sensing element in the form of an amorphous thin wire, $100\;{\mu}m$ in diameter ${\times}50\;mm$ long, was fit into a small field modulation coil of 60 mm length. At a magnetic field modulation in the range of hundreds of Hz, the change in time interval of two adjacent GMI voltage peaks was linearly related to the external magnetic field to be measured. This mechanism improved the sensor linearity of the GMI sensor to better than 0.2% in the measuring range of ${\pm}100\;{\mu}T$.

  • This study developed a high-temperature, high-pressure dynamic pressure sensor using LGT(lanthanum gallium tantalate). The sensitivity of the fabricated dynamic pressure sensor was 2.1 mV/kPa and its nonlinearity was 2.5%FS. We confirmed that the high-temperature dynamic pressure sensor operated stably in high-temperature environment at $500^{\circ}C$. The developed dynamic pressure sensor using LGT is expected to be applicable not only to gas turbines but also in various industrial areas in duding airplanes and power stations.

  • An imprinted potentiometric sensor was developed for direct and selective determination of gabapentin. Sensor is based on carbon paste electrode adapted by graphene oxide that is decorated with silver nanoparticles and mixed with molecularly imprinted polymers nanoparticles using gabapentin as a template molecule. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Under optimal experimental conditions, the studied sensor exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity with LOD of $4.8{\times}10^{-11}mol\;L^{-1}$. It provided a wide linearity range from $1{\times}10^{-10}$ to $1{\times}10^{-3}mol\;L^{-1}$ and high stability for more than 3 mo. The sensor was effectively used for the determination of gabapentin in pharmaceutical tablets and spiked plasma samples.

  • Chlorine dioxide is very effective gas for sterilization or disinfection (in manufacturing), and does not produce harmful by-products after use. However, if its concentration exceeds 10 %, it become explosive and cannot be compressed or stored. Therefore, it is necessary to measure its concentration. In this study, the concentration of chlorine dioxide with a high oxidizing strength was measured using a metal oxide sensor. The sensor was a commercially available TGS series from Figaro. The sensitivity of the sensor was inversely proportional to a low concentration of chlorine dioxide gas below 6 ppm and returned to the initial resistance at about 6 ppm. When the gas concentration reached multiples of 10 ppm, resistance of the sensor increased to several megaohms.

  • In this article, a UV sensor that is an appropriate tool for fire detection has been designed and constructed. The structure of this UV sensor is an air-filled single-wire detector that is able to operate under normal air condition. A reflective CsI photocathode is installed at the end of the sensor chamber to generate photoelectrons in the ion chamber. An electric current is produced by accelerating photoelectrons to the anode in the electric field. The detector is able to measure the intensity of the incident UV rays whenever the current is sufficiently high. Therefore, the sensitivity coefficient of this sensor is found to be $7.67{\times}10^{-6}V/photons/sec$.

  • In this research, a capacitive pressure sensor (Piezocapacitive Sensor) was fabricated using carbon black powder containing poly-dimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with micro-grid patterned surface. To investigate the effect of carbon black powder and micro-grid pattern on the sensor's performance, various sensors were fabricated with different carbon black powder concentration and grid pattern density. The performances of the developed sensors were compared in terms of operating range and sensitivity.
