  • A GNSS based measurement system was constructed with not only the core sensors of a GNSS receiver, a TRS sensor and a soil moisture sensor but supplementary installation of power supply and radio communication for monitoring steep slope sites. The sensor combination extracts and transfers not only ground displacement in real-time but soil moisture content.

  • It is very important for a mobile robot to recognize and model its environments for navigation. However, the grid map constructed by sonar sensors cannot accurately represent the environment, especially the narrow environment, due to the angular uncertainty of sonar data. Therefore, we propose a map building scheme which combines sonar sensors and IR sensors. The maps built by sonar sensors and IR sensors are combined with different weights which are determined by the degree of translational and rotational motion of a robot. To increase the effectiveness of sensor fusion, we also propose optimal sensor arrangement through various experiments. The experimental results show that the proposed method can represent the environment such as narrow corridor and open door more accurately than conventional sonar sensor-based map building methods.

  • The nitrogen oxides, NO and NO2, abbreviated usually as NOx, emitted from combustion facilities such as power plants and automobiles are the typical air-pollutants causing acid rain and photochemical smog. In order to solve the NOx-related pollution problems effectively, we need efficient techniques to monitor NOx in the combustion exhausts and in environments. Development of solid-state electrochemical devices for detecting NOx is demonstrated based on various combination of solid electrolytes and auxiliary sensing materials. The object of this research is to develop various sensor performance for solid state amperometric sensor, and to test gas sensor performance manufactured. So we try to present a guidance for developing amperometric gas sensor. We concentrated on development of manufacturing process and performance test.

  • Significant portion of the total manufacturing time for a pipe fabrication process is spent on the welding following primary machining and fit-up processes. To achieve a reliable weld bead appearance, automatic seam tracking and adaptive control to fill the groove are urgently needed. For the seam tracking in welding processes, the vision sensors have been successfully applied. However, the adaptive filling control of the multi-torches system for the appropriate welded area has not been implemented in the area of SAW(submerged arc welding) by now. The term adaptive control is often used to describe recent advances in welding process control by strictly this only applies to a system which is able to cope with dynamic changes in system performance. In welding applications, the term adaptive control may not imply the conventional control theory definition but may be used in the more descriptive sense to explain the need for the process to adapt to the changing welding conditions. This paper proposed various types of methodologies for obtaining a good bead appearance based on multi-torches welding system with the vision system in SAW. The methodologies for adaptive filling control used welding current/voltage, arc voltage/welding current/wire feed speed combination and welding speed by using vision sensor. It was shown that the algorithm for welding current/voltage combination and welding speed revealed sound weld bead appearance compared with that of voltage/current combination.

  • This paper presents a technique for estimating the attitude of a model helicopter at near hovering using a combination of inertial and non-inertial sensors such as gyroscope and potentiometer. To estimate the attitude of helicopter a simplified indirect Kalman filter based on sensor modeling is derived and the characteristics of sensors are studied, which are used in determining the optimal Kalman gain. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm simulation results are presented with real flight data. Our approach avoids a complex dynamic modeling of helicopter and allows for an elegant combination of various sensor data with different measurement frequencies. We also describe the method of implementation of the algorithm in the model helicopter.

  • One of the important research issues in mobile robot is how to detect the 3D environment fast and accurately, and recognize it. Sensing methods of utilizing laser structured light and/or stereo vision are representatively used among a number of methodologies developed to date. However, the methods are still in need of achieving high accuracy and reliability to be used for real world environments. In this paper to implement a new robotic environmental sensing algorithm is presented by combining the information between intensity image and that of laser structured light image. To see how effectively the algorithm applied to real environments, we developed a sensor system that can be mounted on a mobile robot and tested performance for a series of environments.

  • Generally, though we use the vision sensor or arc sensor in welding process, it is difficult to define the welding parameters which can be applied to the weld quality control. Especially, the important Parameters is Arc Voltage, Welding Current, Welding Speed in arc welding process and they affect the decision of weld bead shape, the stability of welding process and the decision of weld quality. Therefore, it is difficult to determine the unique relationship between the weld bead geometry and the combination of various welding condition. Due to the various difficulties as mentioned, we intend to use Fuzzy Logic and Neural Network to solve these problems. Therefore, the combination of Fuzzy Logic and Neural network has an effect on removing the weld defects, improving the weld quality and turning the desired weld bead shape. Finally, this system can be used under what kind of welding recess adequately and help us make an estimate of the weld bead shape and remove the weld defects.

  • This paper proposes a field-oriented control strategy without speed sensor in overall speed range. At low speed region including zero speed, the electrical saliency which is due to the main flux saturation is used in order to estimate an instantaneous flux position. This electrical saliency can be obtained from the difference of high frequency impedance by the high frequency signal injection. This method enables the stable operation at zero speed or stator frequency even under heavily loaded condition. However, because of the high frequency signal injection the loss and noise in motor increase and the voltage margin is reduced as the motor speed increases. Therefore, this algorithm must be supplemented with the algorithm based on the electrical model of motor, which is conventionally used in the region except the low speed. This paper proposes the combination algorithm between the high frequency signal infection method and the adaptive observer, in which the rotor flux and motor speed can be simultaneously estimated by the adaptive control theory. This combination algorithm enables the stable operation of field-oriented speed control without speed sensor in overall speed range. This is verified by experimental results.
