An Optical Intense 2D Electric Field Sensor Using a Single LiNO3 Crystal

  • Based on the linear electro-optic (EO) effect of lithium niobite (LiNbO3, LN) crystal, an intense two-dimensional (2D) electric field sensor was analyzed, fabricated and experimentally demonstrated. The linear polarized light beam transmits along the optical axis (z-axis) of the LN crystal, and the polarization direction of the polarized light is 45° to the y-axis. The sensor can detect the intensity of a 2D electric field that is perpendicular to the z-axis. Experimental results demonstrated that the minimum detectable electric field of the sensor is 10.5 kV/m. The maximum detected electric field of the sensor is larger than 178.9 kV/m. The sensitivity of the sensor is 0.444 mV/(kV·m-1). The variation of the sensitivity is within ±0.16 dB when the sensor is rotated around a z-axis from 0° to 360°. The variation of the sensor output optical power is within ±1.4 dB during temperature change from 19 ℃ to 26 ℃ in a day (from 7:00 AM to 23:00 PM) and temperature change from 0 ℃ to 40 ℃ in a controllable temperature chamber. All theoretical and experimental results revealed that the fabricated sensor provides technology for the direct detection of intense 2D electric fields.

  • Feed and spindle motor currents are used toi monitor the cutting process practically. The sensitivity of spindle drive system is lower than that of feed drive system, but the cutting torque is represented well by the spindle motor current. During multi-axis cutting, it is difficult to calculate the resultant cutting force using feed motor currents, because each feed force is reflected by each axis feed motor current with different time delay. It is also difficult to compensate the frictional torque using the feed motor current, because the magnitude of the frictional torque is dependent of the feedrate, table position, and cutting direction. On the other hand, cutting torque can be estimated well using spindle motor current which is independent of the cutting direction.

  • There are many researches going on to develop the information storage devices using Blue-ray disc and DVD as a demand for high-density information storage devices is highly increasing. This high-density information storage device requires a short-wave laser and objective lens of high numerical aperture set in fer its operation. And, that brings out rapid decrease of tilt tolerance. Therefore, it is necessary that an actuator should control tilt motions to get a stable signal. In this paper, a new mathematical form of 3-D.O.F coupled model is formulated and magnetic circuit in constraints is most effectively designed with the use of the moving coil type actuator in higher sensitivity. Further, this paper presents a tilt coil whose rotational center point is put on that of the lens through the variation of tilt coil and proposes a 3-axis actuator with high sensitivity improved in its dynamic property through its structure analysis.

Low Parameter Sensitivity Deadbeat Direct Torque Control for Surface Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

  • In order to decrease the parameter sensitivity of deadbeat direct torque control (DB-DTC), an improved deadbeat direct torque control method for surface mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) drives is proposed. First, the track errors of the stator flux and torque that are caused by model parameter mismatch are analyzed. Then a sliding mode observer is designed, which is able to predict the d-q axis currents of the next control period for one-step delay compensation, and to simultaneously estimate the model parameter disturbance. The estimated disturbance of this observer is used to estimate the stator resistance offline. Then the estimated resistance is required to update the designed sliding-mode observer, which can be used to estimate the inductance and permanent-magnetic flux linkage online. In addition, the flux and torque estimation of the next control period, which is unaffected by the model parameter disturbance, is achieved by using predictive d-q axis currents and estimated parameters. Hence, a low parameter sensitivity DB-DTC method is developed. Simulation and experimental results show the validity of the proposed direct control method.

  • A note-book PC has become thinner in recent years, which requires the optical disc drives with small height and high memory capacity. Therefore the actuator of optical disc drives must be thinner and have disc tilt compensation function for high density memory. In this paper, the actuator with hybrid type is investigated for 3-axis ultra-slim actuator. A 3-axis ultra-slim actuator is designed by using the modal analysis of the actuator and the electromagnetic analysis of magnetic circuit to achieve dynamic characteristics. Also, magnetic force between tilt magnet and tilt yoke is investigated to and the influence on the DC sensitivity in the focus and track directions.

  • For high density optical storage, there should be a high NA objective lens and a shorter wavelength laser diode. To secure the disc tilt margin related to the coma aberration, moreover, it's difficult to apply the tilt compensation mechanism into the portable PC. In this paper, we proposed the 3-axis asymmetry pickup actuator with high efficiency symmetric magnetic circuit, which consisted of the top cover type inner yoke for high magnetic flux density, the coil stack unit for the 3-axis independent operation and vertically polarized magnets.   • This paper deals with a new two dimensional clinometer based on dual axis micromachined accelerometers. The clinometer is a small and low-cost product, which is mainly developed to help golfers read easily the tilt of a putting green. First, this paper proposes the principle of two dimensional clinometer and also a calibration method to improve accuracy with respect to the offset voltage and sensitivity of a accelerometer. Experimental results show that the proposed clinometer can provide useful information on the tilt of an inclined plane.

3축 가속도 센서 데이터에 중력 방향 가중치를 사용한 낙상 인식 알고리듬 (Fall Recognition Algorithm Using Gravity-Weighted 3-Axis Accelerometer Data)

  • 중력 방향에 대한 가중치를 적용한 3축 가속도 센서 데이터를 낙상 특징 변수로 사용해서 은닉 마르코프 모델(Hidden Markov Model; HMM)에 적용한 새로운 낙상 인식 알고리듬을 제안한다. 기존에 낙상인식에 많이 사용되는 변수인 3축 가속도의 벡터 합(Sum Vector Magnitude, SVM)과 새롭게 정의한 변수인 중력방향가중치를 적용한 3축 가속도의 벡터 합(Gravity-weighted Sum Vector Magnitude, GSVM)를 포함한 다섯 가지 낙상특징변수를 은닉 마르코프 모델에 적용하여 낙상 인식률을 평가하였다. 실험을 통해 얻은 가장 좋은 결과는 중력방향가중치를 적용한 3축 가속도의 벡터 합 변수를 적용한 결과이고 100% 민감도(sensitivity)와 97.96% 특이성(specificity)를 얻었다. 이것은 단순 3축 가속도의 벡터 합 변수에 비해 민감도는 5.2%와 특이성은 4.5% 정도 향상되었다. 단순히 운동량만을 표현하는 3축 가속도의 벡터 합 변수에 비해 중력방향가중치를 적용한 3축 가속도의 벡터 합 변수가 낙상의 움직임에 대한 특징을 잘 표현하기 때문에 높은 인식률을 나타내었다.

병렬판구조를 이용한 소형 6축 힘/토크센서의 설계 및 특성평가 (Design and evaluation of small size six-axis force/torque sensor using parallel plate sturcture)

  • This paper describes the design processes and evaluation results of a small-sized six-axis force/torque sensor. The new six-axis force/torque sensor including S-type structure has been developed using a parallel plate structure as a basic sensing element. In order tominimize coupling errors, the location of strain gages has been determined based on the finite element analysis and the connections of strain gages have been made such that the bridge circuit with 4 strain gages becomes balanced. Several design modifications result in a similar strain sensitivity for six-axis forces and moments, and the reduced coupling errors of 2.6% FS between each forces and moments. Calibration test results show that the six-axis load cell developed which has light weight of 135g and the maximum capacities of 196 N in forces and 19.6 N.m in moments is estimated to be within 7.1% FS in coupling error.
