  • Due to the increasing incidence of diabetes, obesity and hypertensive, stevia has been placed great attentions as the sweetener to substitute sucrose in the world. Stevia was introduced to Korea in 1970's, but it has not been an attractive crop in that time. However, recently it has more attention for the natural food sweet additives. Because stevia have many problems for cultivation especially cultivar, seed germination, fertility, uniformity and glycoside quality, the sport mutation was attempted to in vitro plants for the improvement of some characteristics. The young in vitro plants was nursed on MS medium supplemented with $1mg\;l^{-1}\;GA_3$. Shoots of 10 cm height were irradiated with 0~200 Gy of gamma ray and the every node was separated and inoculated on MS basic medium. The lethality, number and length of shoot, numbers of node and branch were investigated for the evaluation of radiosensitivity. The optimum dose of gamma ray seemed to be around 80 Gy for the sport mutation induction in stevia. The lower node was more sensitive than higher node to radiation.

  • The trend of x-ray image sensor has been evolved from an amorphous silicon sensor to a crystal silicon sensor. A crystal silicon X-ray sensor, meaning a X-ray CIS (CMOS image sensor), is consisted of three transistors (Trs), i.e., a Reset Transistor, a Source Follower and a Select Transistor, and a photodiode. They are highly sensitive to radiation exposure. As the frequency of exposure to radiation increases, the quality of the imaging device dramatically decreases. The most well known effects of a X-ray CIS due to the radiation damage are increments in the reset voltage and dark currents. In this study, a pixel array of a X-ray CIS was made of $20{\times}20pixels$ and this pixel array was exposed to a high radiation dose. The radiation source was Co-60 and the total radiation dose was increased from 1 to 9 kGy with a step of 1 kGy. We irradiated the small pixel array to get the increments data of the reset voltage and the dark currents. Also, we simulated the radiation effects of the pixel by MCNP (Monte Carlo N-Particle) simulation. From the comparison of actual data and simulation data, the most affected location could be determined and the cause of the increments of the reset voltage and dark current could be found.

  • Purpose: This study is to analyze the changes of consumption patterns to diagnose the economic impacts on consumers' market during COVID-19, and to suggest implications to overcome the new social and economic crisis of Jeju Island. Research design, data, and methodology: We collected a set of credit card transaction records issued by BC Card Company from merchants in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province for past 4 years from 2017 to 2020 from the Jeju Data Hub run by Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. The big data contains details of approved credit card transactions including the approval numbers, amount, locations and types of merchants, time and age of users, etc. The researchers summed up amount in monthly basis, transforming big data to small data to analyze the changes of consumption before and after COVID-19. Results: Sales fell sharply in transportation industries including airlines, and overall consumption by age group decreased while the decrease in consumption among the seniors was relatively small. The sales of Yeon-dong and Yongdam-dong in Jeju City also fell significantly compared to other regions. As a result of the paired t-test of all 73 samples in Jeju City, the p-value of the mean consumption of the credit card in 2019 and 2020 is significant, statistically proven that the total consumption amount in the two years is different. Conclusions: We found there are sensitive spots that can be strategically approached based on the changes in consumption patterns by industry, region, and age although most of companies and small businesses have been hit by COVID-19. It is necessary for local companies and for the government to be focusing their support on upgrading services, in order to prevent declining sales and job instability for their employees, creating strategies to retain jobs and prevent customer churn in the face of the crisis. As Jeju Province is highly dependent on the tertiary industry, including tourism, it is suggested to create various strategies to overcome the crisis of the pandemic by constantly monitoring the sales trends of local companies.

  • Sector block is not used for Gamma Knife surgery in patients with generalized trigeminal neuralgia but sector block is used to reduce the dose reaching the brain stem when the trigeminal ganglgia and the 'Brain stem', radiation sensitive tissue, are adjacent. In the Gamma Knife surgical plan of this study, a surgical plan was established using a Leksell Gamma Plan 11. 1.0 (Elekta Instrument AB, Sweden) with one patient (Block unused, Brain stem dose No volume over 12 Gy, Case 1) who did not need a sector block and four patients (Block unused, Brain stem dose 12 Gy or more, Case 2~5) with a sector block. Magnetic resonance images were obtained by MPRAGE T1 and CISS Respectively. When the trigeminal ganglion is in close proximity to the brain stem, the brain stem volume is decreased when the sector block is used, while the treatment time was increased. In conclusion, This Study evaluates the usefulness of the Sector block in brain stem through Gamma Knife surgery in trigeminal neuralgia, which is considered to be the most important factor for the Gamma Knife surgery.

To this end, a mixed-methodology including analytic network process technique was borrowed step-by-step to identify variables, analyze them, and provide interpretations. From the first step, the study found that the market aspect was the most important for the success of the K-MyData business, and the release of interesting representative services was found to be the easiest way to inspire market growth. From the second step, as a socio-cultural issue, the lack of consensus on data provisioning was found to present a major obstacle. To achieve consensus, it is very important for business participants to gain the trust of consumers. From the third step, it was found that the scope of data collection and responsibility for accidents needs to be clarified. Government and business-related persons must observe the principles of MyData while tackling these obstacles. It is also necessary for the government to be sensitive to changes in the environment as a focal actor. Doing so will lead to data industry activation and will help guarantee of rights of data subjects in a balanced manner. Finally, it is notable that technical barriers now have the lowest priority. Although technology is important, MyData business must also overcome market, socio-cultural, and institutional challenges. The study selected Korea as its research target, but it is expected to provide useful insights to other countries that are planning MyData business similar to Korea.

  • Demand for pressure sensors is increasing in various fields such as machinery, healthcare and medical care. A recent study is being conducted to create sensors that are more sensitive and have longer linear sections based on measurement principles. In this paper, a film-type sensor with a membrane structure was developed to measure the pressure distributed in the axial direction of a hot roll laminator. Performance of sensors was evaluated by resistance and durability according to membrane diameter. The resistance of the membrane sensor varies according to the contact state and contact area of the electrode. Therefore, the membrane diameter selection is important. Experiments showed the most pronounced variation in resistance under pressure at 8 mm in diameter of membrane. Reliability evaluation of sensors was carried out at room temperature and high temperature. The pressure on the sensor was pressurized 1000 times to measure the initial resistance and the resistance after the evaluation to analyze the change. Sensors showed stable results with low resistance changes of 5.15% and 6.27%, respectively. A large area sensor manufactured using the developed sensor also showed reliable results.

  • This study aimed to investigate the difference of sensory changes by central and peripheral stimulation for improving life care in chronic low back pain patients. Twelve chronic low back pain patients were randomly assigned to central stimulation (CS, n=6) and peripheral stimulation (PS, n=6). Quantitative sensory test (QST), pressure pain threshold (PPT) and Korean oswestry back pain disability index (KODI) were used to quantitatively measure and analyze. As a result, QST, PPT and KODI showed significant differences by period (p<.01) but did not showed any difference between the two groups (p>.05). Therefore, both stimulations had significant effects on increased sensory threshold and function improvement of the muscles that became sensitive due to pain. It is thought to be significant in improving life care for patients with chronic low back pain.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The fruit of Cydonia oblonga Miller (COM) is used traditionally in Mediterranean region medicine to prevent or treat obesity, but its mechanism of action is still unclear. Beyond a demonstrated anti-obesity effect, the fruit was tested for the mechanism of adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. MATERIALS/METHODS: 3T3-L1 preadipocytes were cultured for 8 days with COM fruit extract (COME) at different concentrations (0-600 ㎍/mL) with adipocyte differentiation medium. The cell viability was measured using an MTT assay; triglyceride (TG) was stained with Oil Red O. The expression levels of the adipogenesis-related genes and protein expression were analyzed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting, respectively. RESULTS: COME inhibited intracellular TG accumulation during adipogenesis. A COME treatment in 3T3-L1 cells induced upregulation of the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK)α phosphorylation and downregulation of the adipogenic transcription factors, such as sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1c, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ, and CCAAT/enhancer binding protein α. The COME treatment reduced the mRNA expression of fatty acyl synthetase, adenosine triphosphate-citrate lyase, adipocyte protein 2, and lipoprotein lipase. It increased the mRNA expression of hormone-sensitive lipase and carnitine palmitoyltransferase I in 3T3-L1 cells. CONCLUSIONS: COME inhibits adipogenesis via the AMPK signaling pathways. COME may be used to prevent and treat obesity.

  • With the escalation of global trade, the Chinese commodity futures market has ascended to a pivotal role within the international shipping landscape. The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI), a leading indicator of the shipping industry's health, is particularly sensitive to the vicissitudes of the Chinese commodity futures sector. Nevertheless, a significant research gap exists regarding the application of Chinese commodity futures prices as predictive tools for the SCFI. To address this gap, the present study employs a comprehensive dataset spanning daily observations from March 24, 2017, to May 27, 2022, encompassing a total of 29,308 data points. We have crafted an innovative deep learning model that synergistically combines Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architectures. The outcomes show that the CNN-LSTM model does a great job of finding the nonlinear dynamics in the SCFI dataset and accurately capturing its long-term temporal dependencies. The model can handle changes in random sample selection, data frequency, and structural shifts within the dataset. It achieved an impressive R2 of 96.6% and did better than the LSTM and CNN models that were used alone. This research underscores the predictive prowess of the Chinese futures market in influencing the Shipping Cost Index, deepening our understanding of the intricate relationship between the shipping industry and the financial sphere. Furthermore, it broadens the scope of machine learning applications in maritime transportation management, paving the way for SCFI forecasting research. The study's findings offer potent decision-support tools and risk management solutions for logistics enterprises, shipping corporations, and governmental entities.
