Tarim River is the biggest inland river in China, its problem of eco-environment is worsening in the lower reach. For keeping this trend within limits, the measure of emergent water transportation to the lower reach was taken. In this paper, the remote sensing technology will be applied to the analysis of eco-environment effect after water transportation. The result is: the vegetation index and cover ratio increased but not markedly, the eco-environment situation can't been improved obviously up to now. It is some effective but temporary . The continuity, quality and quality of water source for the Tarim River must been ensured.
This paper is concerned with 'reverse difference' of marine sediments at the Camau tongue in the extreme south of Vietnam. We demonstrate the importance of remote sensing in geomorphology and marine geological application, using only visual evaluation and some data-processing techniques. In this paper, about 10,000 km$^2$ of the territorial water in the extreme south of Vietnam is being studied. We show that form and behavior of Mekong and its branch can be determined by visually interpreting remote sensing images and using ERDAS IMAGE 8.5 software. Besides, the 'reverse difference' phenomenon is explained by flows of Mekong river and its branches.
In this paper, we describe the configuration of the KITSAT-3 image data receiving, archiving, processing and distribution system in operation. Following the low-cost and software-based design concept, the whole system is composed of three PCs : two for data receiving, archiving and processing which provide a full dual-redundant configuration and one for image catalog browsing which can be accessed by public users. Except that receiving and archiving PCs have serial data ingest boards plugged in, they are configured by general peripherals. This basic and simple hardware configuration made it possible to show that a very low cost system can support a full ground operation for the utilization of high-resolution satellite image data.
From the lessons after the Nakhodka oil-spill in Jan. 1997, oil slick detection by using remote sensing data and assimilating the data to the simulation program is important for monitoring the oil-drift pattern. For this object, we are going to construct the oil-spill warning system for estimating the oil-drift pattern using remotesensing/numerical simulation Model. Additionally we plan to use this system for restorating oil-spill damage domestically, such as estimating the ecological damage and making the priority fur restorating the oil-spilled shoreline. This report is intended to summarize the role of geo-informatics in the oil spill accident by not only paying attention to the effect of information provision/information management via the map, but also reporting the interim result in part based on the details discussed in the processes of recovery support and environmental impact assessment during the Nakhodka's accident.
We compared the satellite observed temperature with the radiosonde observed temperature in the Korean Peninsula. The radiosonde observed data were obtained from four upper air observation stations in the Korean Peninsula from 1981 to 1998, and that was compared with the satellite observed data of the channel-2 and channel-4 of microwave sounding unit(MSU) on board NOAA series of polar-orbiting satellites. The radiosonde data were reconstructed into monthly radiosonde T$_{b}$ using MSU weighting function. The monthly climatology shows radiosonde T$_{b2}$ is higher than MSU T$_{b2}$ in summer. The correlation between MSU T$_{b2}$ and radiosonde T$_{b2}$ is 0.72-0.76 and 0.73-0.81 between MSU T$_{b4}$ and radiosonde T$_{b4}$.
When the data from the artificial satellite is analyzed, recent years it is perceived to vegetation index using BRF(Bidirectional Reflectance Factor) of the observation target. To make the BRF models, it is important to measure the 3D structure of the observation target actually. In this study, it is proposed to the observation technique by using laser scanning data. Also, our team has been operating the radio controlled helicopter which can fly over the tall forest canopy and it can be equipped the measurement system.
An efficient and robust neural network-based scheme is introduced in this paper to perform automatic cloud detection. Unlike many existing cloud detection schemes which use thresholding and statistical methods, we used the artificial neural network methods, the multi-layer perceptrons (MLP) with back-propagation algorithm and radial basis function (RBF) networks for cloud detection from Geostationary satellite images. We have used a simple scene (a mixed scene containing only cloud and clear sky). The main results show that the neural networks are able to handle complex atmospheric and meteorological phenomena. The experimental results show that two methods performed well, obtaining a classification accuracy reaching over 90 percent. Moreover, the RBF model is the most effective method for the cloud classification.
The prototype of the radiometric calibration algorithm, including the correction of scan mirror's angle, has been developed for the stationary meteorological sensor, firstly in Korea. We use this system on GOES-12 to evaluate two coefficients, slope and intercept. The evaluated coefficients show good agreement with the NESDIS's results for the five-case data. The calculated coefficients have been applied to the conversion from the measured counts to the radiance and the converting methods according to the scanning are investigated to enhance the radiometric accuracy.

Today, satellite remote sensing and geographic information systems plays an important role as a advanced science and technology, and becomes a superpower tool of the study and research in various fields of Earth Science. This study reviews the application of satellite remote sensing and geographic information systems for many specialists in the fields of the fishery and ocean science. In future, satellite remote sensing and geographic information systems will be greatly used to observed, monitor and predict various phenomena associated with the fisheries and oceans, in order to seek safety in a natural disaster, and menage and conserve the fisheries and resources and the oceanic environments.
Since open-cut mining excavates gradually from the top of the mountain, vegetation planting is needed to reduce negative environmental impact on the surrounding environment. Accordingly, this study aimed at performing the environmental monitoring of the open-cut mining ground using the satellite remote sensing technique. As the research technique, in order to grasp the environmental change around the open-cut mining ground, NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index) was calculated, and every year change of the vegetation activity was analyzed. The results of the study showed lower vegetation activity in the open-cut mining ground compared to the surrounding areas and suggested the need for closed monitoring by remote sensing techniques.
