  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the longitudinal relationship between Korean youth's social withdrawal, depression and community sense mediated by achievement values. For this purpose, we analyzed three years of the longitudinal panel data (2011-2013) of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). Data were collected from 2,351 first year middle school students using the latent growth model using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 22.0. The main analysis results were as follows. First, social withdrawal and depression decreased and community sense increased as time passed. These results supported the linear change model. Second, the initial status of social withdrawal and depression had effects on the initial status and change rates of community sense. Achievement values, the partial mediator, had a positive influence on initial community sense but had a negative influence on change rates of community sense. We discussed how to improve Korean youth's community sense based on these results.

  • Purpose: This study is to grasp factors influencing the quality of life in older adults after total knee replacement. Methods: This study was conducted with 165 older adults who had TKR at four orthopedic hospitals in D city. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple linear regression with SPSS 19.0 software. Results: Pain and depression were negatively correlated with range of motion, social support, while sense of coherence was positively correlated with quality of life. Sense of coherence (43%, ${\beta}=.40$), pain (8%, ${\beta}=-.30$), and depression (3%, ${\beta}=-.20$) on the Physical Component Summary in the quality of life have significant explanatory power of 54%. Sense of coherence (49%, ${\beta}=.44$), social support (6%, ${\beta}=.25$), and depression (3%, ${\beta}=-.22$) on the Mental Component Summary in the quality of life have significant explanatory power of 58%. Conclusion: This study suggests developing a program to improve the quality of life in older adults who had TKR, considering factors such as sense of coherence.

  • This purpose of this study was to investigate sense of self-control, depression and factors influencing on state-anxiety in pregnant women and to identify factors influencing state-anxiety. Data were collected 160 pregnant women. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, t-test, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Stepwise Regression Analysis. There was statistically significant difference in sense of self-control on variable such as income. There were statistically significant difference in depression on variables such as occupation, living together with family-in-laws, planned pregnancy. There were statistically significant difference in state-anxiety on variables such as age, history of childbirth. State-anxiety was positively correlated with depression. State-anxiety was negatively correlated with sense of self-control. Depression was negatively correlated with sense of self-control. Factor influencing State-anxiety were sense of self-control, depression and history of childbirth, which explained 51.4%. Therefore, prenatal management programs need to be developed giving consideration to the emotional change in order to promote psychological stability in the pregnant women.

The analysis revealed that socio-demographic characteristics, social network, and community consciousness had a significant effect on depression. The main results are summarized as follows. First, in first model, age, education, subjective health status, and subjective economic status were found to affect depression. Second, in second model, by adding the social network, the explanation power increased, and the social network of friends/neighbors were proven to be an influence on depression. Third, in third model, explanation power increased when sense of community was added, and it was proven that sense of community had an effect on depression. Finally, when the socio-demographic characteristics and the social network were controlled, the sense of community had more influence on the depression than the social network.

  • Recently, the concern of aging society is 'Healthy life' for the elderly and pre-elderly. Especially, realizing the 'Healthy life', it is very important for the elderly to establish living environment for holding and maintaining mental depression. Mental depression is related to dysfunction of sensory organ included physical functions. Therefore, the dysfunction of elderly's sensory organ is required to the guideline of environmental planning. In this study, among five senses, I focused visual sense due to the large proportion of environmental perception. The purpose of this study is to analyze the degree of geriatric depression and preference of simulated images applying preferable color for the elderly. This study conducted literature review and questionnaire survey. Firstly, the previous studies related with the melancholy, sense of isolation, self-regard for the elderly analyzed. Secondly, the questionnaire tool measuring the degree of geriatric depression developed. Thirdly, the tool investigating the preference for the simulated images applied main, sub, and accent colors produced. Applied preferable colors were used from the results previous study. Lastly, based on the result, the basic data of color planning were suggested. It was judged that this study is an useful as the basic guideline of color planning for the elderly's residential spaces and the potential value of considering geriatric depression and the color planning in terms of the elderly's visual sense.

  • This study was performed to identify the relationship between sense of humor, stress, and depression in the nursing students. Data were collected from the 20th of June to the 30th of June in 2015 from 227 nursing students in K university. The collected data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, kruscal-walis, pearson, spearman, and rank correlation coefficient. The result shows the sense of humor was significantly different between grade (t=-3.814, p <.001) and major satisfaction (${\chi}^2=12.070$, p=.007). The sense of humor was negatively correlated with living stress (r=-.237, p=.001), clinical based stress (r=-.182, p=.007), and with depression (r=-.238, p<.001). This data suggests that sense of humor is relevant in reducing the living stress and clinical based stress. These findings can provide the basis for the development of nursing intervention to increase the ability to cope with stress and depression.
