  • A Coarse-Fine Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC) using the single time amplifier is proposed. A vernier delay line is used to overcome process dependency and the 2-stage time amplifier is designed to have high resolution by increasing the gain of the time amplifier. Single time amplifier architecture reduces the silicon area of the TDC and alleviates mismatch effect between time amplifiers. The proposed TDC is implemented in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process with the supply voltage of 1.8 V. The measured results show that the resolution of the TDC is 0.73 ps with 10-bit digital output, although highend process is not applied. The single time amplifier architecture reduces 13% of chip area compared to previous work. By reducing the supply voltage, the linearity of the TDC is enhanced and the resolution is decreased to 1.45 ps.

  • A 2.4 GHz single ended two stage low noise amplifier(LNA) is designed for Bluetooth application. The circuit was implemented in a standard digital 0.25 $\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS process with one poly and five metal layers. At 2.4 GHz, the LNA dissipates 34.5 mW from a 2.5V power supply voltage and provides 24.6 dB power gain, 2.85 dB minimum noise figure, -66.3 dB reverse isolation, and an output 1-dB compression level of 8.5 dBm.

  • A new CMOS analog design methodology using an independently optimized self-cascode (SC) is proposed. This idea is based on the concept of the dual-workfunction-gate MOSFETs, which are equivalent to SC structures. The channel length of the source-side MOSFET is optimized, to give higher transconductance ($g_m$) and output resistance ($r_{out}$). The highest $g_m$ and $r_{out}$ of the SC structures are obtained by independently optimizing the channel length ratio of the SC MOSFETs, which is a critical design parameter. An operational amplifier (OPAMP) with the proposed design methodology using a standard digital $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology was designed and fabricated, to provide better performance. Independently $g_m$ and $r_{out}$ optimized SC MOSFETs were used in the differential input and output stages, respectively. The measured DC gain of the fabricated OPAMP with the proposed design methodology was approximately 18 dB higher, than that of the conventional OPAMP.

  • A simple low-cost and small size 1.88-198 GHz Band RF power amplifier module is developed for IMT2000 repeater. The power amplifier consists of two stage amplifiers that the first stage amplifier is drive amplifier using discrete type P-HEMT (ATF-34143, 800 micron gate width, Agilent Technologies) and the second is power amplifier with 300Bm 1dB gain compression point using GaAs FET(EFA240D-SOT89, 2400 micron gate width, Excelics Semiconductor). this power amplifier module feature a 29.5dBm 1dB gain compression point, 29.5dB gain, 42dBm 3rd order intercept point(OIP3) and -10dB/-l2dB input/output return loss over the 1880-1980 MHz. This PA module is fully integrated using MIC technology into a small size and design by full nonlinear design technologies. The dimensions of this PA module are 42(L) $\times$ 34(W) mm.

  • A pre-amplified semiconductor optical amplifier-Mach-Zehnder interferometer(SOA-MZI) wavelength converter (WC) using a continuous wave-holding beam(CW-HB) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated at 10Gb/s. The proposed scheme achieves not only enhancement of input power dynamic range(IPDR) to over 20dB but also higher Q parameter of about 2 to 3 by no output signal distortion and higher extinction ratio(ER) of about 2dB to 5dB by low noise figure (NF), compared with the bias current control method.

  • Fairchild Green Mode off line buck switch for low standby power consumption and high reliability is presented. By reducing operating current and optimizing switching frequency, 20mW power consumption is achieved. High performance trans-conductance amplifier and green mode function improve the ripple and regulation in the output voltage. The conventional $FPS^{TM}$ buck and novel Fairchild buck switch are compared to show the improvement of performance. Experimental results are showed using 2W evaluation board.

  • This paper proposes a high-efficiency power amplifier (PA) with uneven bias. The proposed amplifier consists of a driver amplifier, power stages of the main amplifier with class AB bias, and an auxiliary amplifier with class C bias. Unlike other CMOS PAs, the amplifier adopts a current-mode transformer-based combiner to reduce the output stage loss and size. As a result, the amplifier can improve the efficiency and reduce the quiescent current. The fully integrated CMOS PA is implemented using the commercial Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company 0.18-${\mu}m$ RF-CMOS process with a supply voltage of 3.3 V. The measured gain, $P_{1dB}$, and efficiency at $P_{1dB}$ are 29 dB, 28.1 dBm, and 37.9%, respectively. When the PA is tested with 54 Mbps of an 802.11g WLAN orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signal, a 25-dB error vector magnitude compliant output power of 22 dBm and a 21.5% efficiency can be obtained.

  • In this paper, a high-efficiency power amplifier was designed by applying the operating point Class J using LDMOS(laterally diffused metal oxide semiconductor) and optimizing the output matching circuit so that the second harmonic impedance becomes the reactance impedance. The designed power amplifier has a frequency of 108 ~ 110 MHz, Characteristics of PAE(power added efficiency) is 71.5% at PSAT output (54.5 dBm), 55.5% at P1dB output (51.5 dBm), and 24.38% at 45 dBm. The CSB(carrier with sideband) amplifier, which is the reference signal in the spatial modulation method, has an operating output of 45 dBm ~ 35 dBm, and linear SDM(sum in the depth of modulation) characteristics(40% ± 0.3%) were obtained. We measure the characteristics in amplitude modulation according to the bias operating point of the power amplifier for CSB and propose the optimal operating point to obtain linear modulation characteristics.
