  • This study is about the human sensibility measurement method. Researches on human sensibility measurement have been performed in many aspects. However, due to the subtlety and intricacy of human sensibility, it has been difficult to exactly measure human sensibility. At present, Semantic Differential(SD) method is most widely used to quantify human sensibility. In SD method, complicate human sensibility is represented on a scale with equal interval or equal ratio. However, this method has a critical problem in that human sensibility cannot be expressed with equal interval or equal ratio. In order to complement SD method and represent human sensibilities appropriately, we proposed an alternative method using the chroma-scale with saturation that had not equal interval or ratio. In experiment, proposed method shown that subjects understood a new scale easily and they could express their sensibilities on a new scale without any limitation. As a result, the chroma-scale can be used not only for measuring consumer's preference but also for evaluating or selecting sensibility words.

  • An image is a comprehensive result that you have experienced about an object and means the image that you have on the surface of your consciousness. The image of the subject has an important influence on learning the subject. The image analysis of the subjects that the learners have will be good data to decide the direction of teaching and learning. The purpose of this study is to develop and apply measurement tools for physics image and discuss its educational implications. The research method is to develop the measurement tools for the physics image by semantic analysis method and apply it to the secondary pre-service physics teacher. The subjects of the study were 39 first graders, 31 second graders, 37 third graders, and 38 fourth graders at the University of Education, a total of 145 students, 82 of whom were male and 63 were female. The study results show that the image measurement tools for physics consisted of 25 items from five elements: 'interest,' 'feeling,' 'scope,' 'evaluation,' and 'viewpoint.' There were statistically significant differences between the male and female students in applying the measurement tools developed for the physics image of secondary pre-service physics teachers. Male students showed significantly higher statistical significance than female students in the 'interest' and 'feeling' elements of measurement tools for the physics image. In the 'scope' element of measurement tools for the physics image the second grade was statistically higher than the fourth grade. Finally, we discussed educational implications for image analysis of physics and the usefulness of using measurement tools in physics image.

  • This research aims to understand how students of technical high schools view 'engineering' as well as to identify the main elements that contribute to the perception on 'engineering.' The research targets are 695 senior students of technical high schools nationwide. The researcher developed the measuring tool for the experiment by referencing the adjective value criteria utilized in the semantic difference method developed by Osgood (1957). There were a grand total of 30 criteria following the preliminary studies. The results of the research are as follows. Firstly, the average value of the overall perception of technical high school students on 'engineering' is 4.27 points. This value just exceeds the standard (4 points). Secondly, when examining the general tendency it can be noticed that there is a sense of stigma that although 'engineering' is significant and valuable it is a field that is overly difficult, complex and even dangerous. Thirdly, 6 main elements that influence the perception on 'engineering' were extracted as results of the factor analysis. The first element is practicality; the second element is emotions; the third element is aesthetics; the fourth is simplicity; the fifth is responsibility; and finally the sixth element is assertiveness. Fourthly, when comparing the average values of the perception on 'engineering' by region, it was seen that there existed a difference on the perception towards 'engineering' based on differing regions.

  • The present paper describes the application of an improved impression transfer vector method (Sakurai et al., 2007) to transform the three basic dimensions (Evaluation, Activity, and Potency) of higher-order impression. First, a set of shapes and surface textures of faces was represented by multi-dimensional vectors. Second, the variation among faces was coded in reduced parameters derived by applying principal component analysis. Third, a facial attribute along a given impression dimension was analyzed to select discriminative parameters from among principal components with higher sensitivity to impressions, and obtain an impression transfer vector. Finally, the parametric coordinates were changed by adding or subtracting the impression transfer vector and the image was manipulated so that its facial appearance clearly exhibits the transformed impression. A psychological rating experiment confirmed that the impression transfer vector modulated three dimensions of higher-order impression. We discussed the versatility of the impression transfer vector method.

  • The idia of modern product design is translated from the concept of functional importance as the basic function to that of emotional importance as the supplement function. In other words, the interests of the emotion in human performance side based on psychological factors of human are increased as well as the function in technical performance side based on physical factors of product. The standard emotional works for understanding the human's emotion are arranged in this paper. The standard emotional words are composed of words expressing the humaa's emotion. The adjectives adaptable to human's emotional works are collected from Korean dictionaries and arranged in the semantic differential(SD) scale. Next, the words with great marks evaluated by SD method are analyzed by factor analysis(FA) method and characterized as emotional words for understanding the human's emotion. The standard emotional words arranged in this paper are important because they are basic information for the development of product or technology as well as for the matter of emotional measurement technical development.
