  • In the Semantic Web, storage models are required to efficiently store and retrieve metadata and ontology represented using OWL that can provide expressive power and reasoning support. In this paper, we propose an OWL storage model that can store and retrieve many restrictions and semantic relations defined on ontology with metadata. In addition, we propose some methods and rules to improve query processing efficiency of the proposed storage model. The proposed storage model can store and process large amounts of ontology and metadata because it consists of tables based on the relational database. And the proposed model can quickly provide more accurate results to users because of performing two different types of ontology reasoning and using the prime number labeling scheme to easily identify hierarchy relationships between classes or properties. The comparative evaluation results show that our storage model provides better performance than the existing storage model.

  • While new information technology advances have made information access and acquisition methods much more diverse and easier, there are side effects that allow illegal access using diverse and high-performance tools. In order to cope with such threats, there are access control methods in database technology, and various studies are being conducted to extend traditional access control to cope with new computing environments. In this paper, we propose an extended access control with uncertain context-awareness. It enables appropriate security policy enforcement even if the contextual constraints specified by the security policy does not match those accompanied by access request query. We extract semantic implications from context tree, and define the argument that can quantitatively measure the semantic difference between two nodes in the context tree. It is used to semantically enforce the security policy, and to prevent the excessive authorization caused by the implication.

  • Objective: This study developed a hierarchy of conditions of applications(devices), situations and functions which are applicable to gesture interface. Background: Gesture interface is one of the promising interfaces for our natural and intuitive interaction with intelligent machines and environments. Although there were many studies related to developing new gesture-based devices and gesture interfaces, it was little known which applications, situations and functions are applicable to gesture interface. Method: This study searched about 120 papers relevant to designing and applying gesture interfaces and vocabulary to find the gesture applicable conditions of applications, situations and functions. The conditions which were extracted from 16 closely-related papers were rearranged, and a hierarchy of them was developed to evaluate the applicability of applications, situations and functions to gesture interface. Results: This study summarized 10, 10 and 6 conditions of applications, situations and functions, respectively. In addition, the gesture applicable condition hierarchy of applications, situation and functions were developed based on the semantic similarity, ordering and serial or parallel relationship among them. Conclusion: This study collected gesture applicable conditions of application, situation and functions, and a hierarchy of them was developed to evaluate the applicability of gesture interface. Application: The gesture applicable conditions and hierarchy can be used in developing a framework and detailed criteria to evaluate applicability of applications situations and functions. Moreover, it can enable for designers of gesture interface and vocabulary to determine applications, situations and functions which are applicable to gesture interface.

  • To conform to new emerging computing paradigm, various researches and challenges are being done. New information technologies make easy to access and acquire information in various ways. In other side, however, it also makes illegal access more powerful and various threat to system security. In this paper, we suggest a new extended access control method that make it possible to conform to security policies enforcement even with discrepancy between policy based constraints rules and query based constraints rules, based on their semantic information. New method is to derive security policy rules using context tree structure and to control the exceed granting of privileges through the degree of the semantic discrepancy. In addition, we illustrate prototype system architecture and make performance comparison with existing access control methods.

  • Semantic segmentation has remained as a challenging problem in the field of computer vision. Given the immense power of Convolution Neural Network (CNN) models, many complex problems have been solved in computer vision. Semantic segmentation is the challenge of classifying several pixels of an image into one category. With the help of convolution neural networks, we have witnessed prolific results over the time. We propose a convolutional neural network model which uses Fully CNN with deconvolutional pixel layers. The goal is to create a hierarchy of features while the fully convolutional model does the primary learning and later deconvolutional model visually segments the target image. The proposed approach creates a direct link among the several adjacent pixels in the resulting feature maps. It also preserves the spatial features such as corners and edges in images and hence adding more accuracy to the resulting outputs. We test our algorithm on Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Toyota Technologies Institute (KITTI) street view data set. Our method achieves an mIoU accuracy of 92.04 %.

  • This paper aims to offer a solution based on semantic document classification to improve e-Government utilization and efficiency for people using their own information retrieval system and linguistic expression. Generally, semantic document classification method is an approach that classifies documents based on the diverse relationships between keywords in a document without fully describing hierarchial concepts between keywords. Our approach considers the deep meanings within the context of the document and radically enhances the information retrieval performance. Concept Weight Document Classification(CoWDC) method, which goes beyond using existing keyword and simple thesaurus/ontology methods by fully considering the concept hierarchy of various concepts is proposed, experimented, and evaluated. With the recognition that in order to verify the superiority of the semantic retrieval technology through test results of the CoWDC and efficiently integrate it into the e-Government, creation of a thesaurus, management of the operating system, expansion of the knowledge base and improvements in search service and accuracy at the national level were needed.

  • This paper provides a fine-grained analysis of Korean serial verb constructions within the HPSG framework, and covers major descriptive characteristics of the phenomena. This paper discusses constraints on serial verb constructions in terms of four aspects; transitivity, argument structure, semantic properties, and complementizers. As a result, 17 constraints have been built, which support the type hierarchies for Korean serial verb constructions. This paper also presents a sample derivation on the basis of on the constraints and the type hierarchies.

  • With respect to the Semantic Web proposed to overcome the limitation of the Web, OWL has been recommended as the ontology language used to give a well-defined meaning to diverse data. OWL is the representative ontology language suggested by W3C. An efficient retrieval of OWL data requires a well-constructed storage schema. In this paper, we propose a storage schema construction technique which supports more efficient query processing. A retrieval technique corresponding to the proposed storage schema is also introduced. OWL data includes inheritance information of classes and properties. When OWL data is extracted, hierarchy information should be considered. For this reason, an additional XML document is created to preserve hierarchy information and stored in an XML database system. An existing numbering scheme is utilized to extract ancestor/descendent relationships, and order information of nodes is added as attribute values of elements in an XML document. Thus, it is possible to retrieve subclasses and subproperties fast and easily. The improved query performance from experiments shows the effectiveness of the proposed storage schema construction and retrieval method.

  • In the existing text sentiment analysis models, the entire text is usually directly modeled as a whole, and the hierarchical relationship between text contents is less considered. However, in the practice of sentiment analysis, many texts are mixed with multiple emotions. If the semantic modeling of the whole is directly performed, it may increase the difficulty of the sentiment analysis model to judge the sentiment, making the model difficult to apply to the classification of mixed-sentiment sentences. Therefore, this paper proposes a sentiment analysis model BHGCN that considers the text hierarchy. In this model, the output of hidden states of each layer of BERT is used as a node, and a directed connection is made between the upper and lower layers to construct a graph network with a semantic hierarchy. The model not only pays attention to layer-by-layer semantics, but also pays attention to hierarchical relationships. Suitable for handling mixed sentiment classification tasks. The comparative experimental results show that the BHGCN model exhibits obvious competitive advantages.

  • Cooperative query answering is a research effort to develop a fault-tolerant and intelligent database system using the semantic knowledge base constructed from the underlying database. Such knowledge base has two aspects of usage. One is supporting the cooperative query answering Process for providing both an exact answer and neighborhood information relevant to a query. The other is supporting ongoing maintenance of the knowledge base for accommodating the changes in the knowledge content and database usage purpose. Existing studies have mostly focused on the cooperative query answering process but paid little attention on the dynamic knowledge base maintenance. This paper proposes a multi-level knowledge representation framework called Knowledge Abstraction Hierarchy (KAH) that can not only support cooperative query answering but also permit dynamic knowledge maintenance. The KAH consists of two types of knowledge abstraction hierarchies. The value abstraction hierarchy is constructed by abstract values that are hierarchically derived from specific data values in the underlying database on the basis of generalization and specialization relationships. The domain abstraction hierarchy is built on the various domains of the data values and incorporates the classification relationship between super-domains and sub-domains. On the basis of the KAH, a knowledge abstraction database is constructed on the relational data model and accommodates diverse knowledge maintenance needs and flexibly facilitates cooperative query answering. In terms of the knowledge maintenance, database operations are discussed for the cases where either the internal contents for a given KAH change or the structures of the KAH itself change. In terms of cooperative query answering, database operations are discussed for both the generalization and specialization Processes, and the conceptual query handling. A prototype system has been implemented at KAIST that demonstrates the usefulness of KAH in ordinary database application systems.
