RRSEB: A Reliable Routing Scheme For Energy-Balancing Using A Self-Adaptive Method In Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Over recent years, enormous amounts of research in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been conducted, due to its multifarious applications such as in environmental monitoring, object tracking, disaster management, manufacturing, monitoring and control. In some of WSN applications dependent the energy-efficient and link reliability are demanded. Hence, this paper presents a routing protocol that considers these two criteria. We propose a new mechanism called Reliable Routing Scheme for Energy-Balanced (RRSEB) to reduce the packets dropped during the data communications. It is based on Swarm Intelligence (SI) using the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) method. The RRSEB is a self-adaptive method to ensure the high routing reliability in WSNs, if the failures occur due to the movement of the sensor nodes or sensor node's energy depletion. This is done by introducing a new method to create alternative paths together with the data routing obtained during the path discovery stage. The goal of this operation is to update and offer new routing information in order to construct the multiple paths resulting in an increased reliability of the sensor network. From the simulation, we have seen that the proposed method shows better results in terms of packet delivery ratio and energy efficiency.

  • A new cable-supported bridge model consisting of suspension parts, self-anchored cable-stayed parts and earth-anchored cable-stayed parts is presented. The new bridge model can be used for suspension bridges, cable-stayed bridges, cable-stayed suspension bridges, and partially earth-anchored cable-stayed bridges by varying parameters. Based on the assumption that each structural member is in either an axial compressive or tensile state, and the stress in each member is equal to the allowable stress of the material, the material quantity for each component is calculated. By introducing the unit cost of each type of material, the estimation formula for the cost of the new bridge model is developed. Numerical examples show that the results from the estimation formula agree well with that from the real projects. The span limit of cable supported bridge depends on the span-to-height ratio and the density-to-strength ratio of cables. Finally, a parametric study is illustrated aiming at the relations between three key geometrical parameters and the cost of the bridge model. The optimization of the new bridge model indicates that the self-anchored cable-stayed part is always the dominant part with the consideration of either the lowest total cost or the lowest unit cost. It is advisable to combine all three mentioned structural parts in super long span cable supported bridges to achieve the most excellent economic performance.

A New design of Self Organizing Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Network Based on Evolutionary parameter identification (진화론적 파라미터 동정에 기반한 자기구성 퍼지 다항식 뉴럴 네트워크의 새로운 설계)

  • In this paper, we introduce a new category of Self-Organizing Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks (SOFPNN) that is based on a genetically optimized multi-layer perceptron with fuzzy polynomial neurons (FPNs) and discuss its comprehensive design methodology involving mechanisms of genetic optimization. The conventional SOFPNN algorithm leads to a tendency to produce overly complex networks as well as a repetitive computation load by the trial and error method and/or the a repetitive parameter adjustment by designer. In order to generate a structurally and parametrically optimized network, such parameters need to be optimal. In this study, in solving the problems with the conventional SOFPNN, we introduce a new design approach of evolutionary optimized SOFPNN. Optimal parameters design available within FPN (viz. the no. of input variables, the order of the polynomial, input variables, and the no. of membership function) lead to structurally and parametrically optimized network which is more flexible as well as simpler architecture than the conventional SOFPNN. In addition, we determine the initial apexes of membership functions by genetic algorithm.

  • Monitoring and analyzing the status of smart objects, the ubiquitous smart monitoring system provides several information such as user-state index, service states and system operation among the services in real time. It also provides self-optimization and self-management for enhancing the performance of services. In order to expand the application scope of this real-time monitoring system, it is indispensible to process huge amount of stream data. In this paper, we propose a load balancing scheme to solve the overload of the monitoring agents. Our proposed scheme reduces deadline miss ratio of entire data by more than 80%.

  • Genetic algorithm is used as a means of search, optimization md machine learning, its structure is simple but it is applied to various areas. And it is about an active and effective controller which can flexibly prepare for changeable circumstances. For this study, research about an action base system evolving by itself is also being considered. There is to have a problem that depended entirely on heuristic knowledge of expert forming membership function and control rule for fuzzy controller design. In this paper, for forming the fuzzy control to perform self-organization, we tuned the membership function to the most optimal using a genetic algorithm(GA) and improved the control efficiency by the self-correction and generation of control rules.

Progress in research and development for REBCO coated conductors by reactive co-evaporation

  • This paper reviews recent progress in research and development (R&D) of reactive co-evaporation for high performance REBCO coated conductors in Korea. Two types of reactive co-evaporation methods were developed for the deposition of SmBCO and GdBCO superconducting layers respectively on the IBAD (Ion Beam Assisted Deposition)-MgO template in the Korean coated conductor project. Batch type reactive co-evaporation equipment and its processing were developed for SmBCO coated conductors at Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) in conjunction with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and a very high critical current exceeding 1,000 A/cm at 77 K in the self field was achieved through the optimization of deposition parameters. Reel-to-reel type reactive co-evaporation processing with a high conversion rate was also developed, while long length GdBCO coated conductors have been routinely produced by SuNAM Co. The minimum critical current of 422 A/cm-w at 77 K in self field was confirmed for 1 km-long GdBCO tape.

Optimization for the Least Weight, Precast Prestressed Gerber′s U-Beams (최소자중 프리캐스트 프리스트레스트 게르버 U형보의 최적화)

  • The cost on transmission and erection of the precast prestressed concrete members largely depends on the weight of them. Optimum process is performed on a U-beam section to control the prestressing force, to reduce the self-weight, and to meet the required strength and stability. The strength, deflection, and concrete stress at the top and bottom of the section considered are required to check according to each construction step in this process. The weight of the original rectangular concrete beam could be reduced up to 39∼50% from this method. Two full scale prototype U-beams were proposed and tested in this study. It was found that the U-beams in the test showed good performance in strength and serviceability within the limits of ultimate strength design method.

  • When the manipulator collides with surroundings, there occurs an impulse. To reduce the impulse, the self motion should maintain the manipulator's position by the minimally effective mass. At this time, we can use the local joint torque minimization algorithm to resolve the redundancy. In this study, to reduce the impulse and damages by the impact between the manipulator and surroundings, new control algorithm for the minimization of the joint torque using the kinetic redundancy and the impact minimization is proposed. It adapts fuzzy logic and genetic algorithm to the conventional local joint torque minimization algorithm. The proposed algorithm is applied to a 3-DOF redundant planar manipulator. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm works well.

  • Generally, dynamic loads are applied to real structures. Since the analysis with the dynamic load is extremely difficult, static loads are utilized by proper conversions of the dynamic loads. The dynamic loads are usually converted ot static loads by safety foactors of experiences. However, it may increase weight and decrease reliability. In this study, a method is proposed for the conversion process. An equivalent static load is calculated ot generate a same maximum displacement. The method is verified through numerical tests on a spring-mass systems of one and multi degrees-of freedom. It has been found that the duration time of the loads and the natural frequencies of the structures are critical in the conversion process. A road arem is a self-propelled howizer is selected for the application of the proposed method. The shape of the road arm is optimized under the converted static loads.

Effect of Wall Groove Characteristics on Yield Stress Measurement of Magnetorheological Fluid

  • To suppress the wall slip effect and improve the yield stress measurement precision of magnetorheological fluid, measurement disks with different grooves are first manufactured. Then, the influence of groove characteristics on the yield stress of magnetorheological fluid is investigated by the method of experiments. Finally, the optimization wall grooves of measurement disks are obtained, and the yield stress of a self-prepared magnetorheological fluid is measured. Results indicate that the groove type and groove width have a slight influence on the shear yield stress, whereas the measured yield stress increases with enhanced groove density, and the optimized groove depth is 0.3 mm. The measured shear yield stress of self-prepared MR fluid can be improved by 18 % according to the optimized grooved disks, and the maximum yield stress can reach up to 65 kPa as the magnetic flux density is 0.5 T.
